you're probably right about the job situation abroad, but the thing is, if performance in B-school is good then Job is inevitable....and phoren B-schools offer opportunities more wide and diverse than what is available in India....

I'm Atul . I graduated as a mechanical engineering last year, 2011, and have been working at the Essar Jamnagar Refinery since.. I gave CAT 2010 and achieved a percentile score of 99.52 but failed to get calls from any iim. This was probably due to my acads.. My percentages in 10th, 12th and degree are 81, 79 and 64 respectively. I'm debating on whether to give cat this year or to wait another year and try next year with more work exp..
What do you suggest?
I am unable to comprehend how you failed to secure any calls with that profile??:shock::shock:
Please explain a bit further because if it is really so then it is lost cause to get into any iims for a lot of people passing out from universities such as UPTU where majority are near you graduation percentage and a similar acad profile!!

my acads are 93.4%( 10th ), 91.75% ( 12th ), 79.30% ( B.Tech. EEE , passed out in 2011, topped my branch)...
i might well make it to sibm this year. However, i hv never attended any coachings. should i keep working and give cat another shot or join SIBM if i get selected???????
if u convert ur call...i would suggest go for it
my 2 friends dropped a year one with 98 percentile and one with 92 percentile but this year there scored got worse and could not make to those institutes in which they were earlier short listed

I have 4.4 yrs wrk exp in MNC IT firm.
I am technically sound, also no problem with me to continue in technical background as well.But as i see, the amount of progress a management guy does is faster than a techie in terms of money,positions etc.Also these days i have developed interest in learning mgmt subjects.
I want to pursue MBA but confused which path should i go for.
1. Should i go full time years MBA
2. Should i go for 1 yr Exec MBA
3. Should i go for 3 yrs part time MBA
Also i am an average guy when it come to acads.
Please provide some pointers.

I am in a big dilemma. I gave CAT 2011 and it was my first sincere attempt. I couldnt get a decent percentile. I got 73 percentile only. I didnt exactly do well in office.!! I came out my existing project during my exams and now osciallating here and there for projects. !! I have 2 yrs of work exp now in TCS and I have lot of extra curricular activites to my credit.. But, My confidence level is completetly low now and i am not in a position to establish myself in either way. !!! I tried to go for a filed switch over towards analytics and I am not gettng any response from them. I feel like m wasting my carrier now. !! DOnt know waht to do.. Even my mind is not accepting me to start my next year prep as my office is also in doldrums.!!! What shall i do now. I have lot of interest in Retail domain and supply chain management.!! But I am not getting a proper platform or proj related to that. PLease help me out.. I want to get the earnest advice from some people who can help me to come out of this situation!!!!! Please reply asap!!!!

Bhai you are losing hope only after one attempt at the cat. I would like to remind you ki bhagwan k ghar der hain andher nahi.
That is why, job toh jaisa chal raha hai waisa chalne do. Because do alag alag nav mein pair daal k chaloge toh paani mein hi giroge.
Jokes apart, make a decision, whether you want to do MBA or do you want to continue with your current job. Devote 100% to any one of this and don't give a shit about the other one. Then you will do much better.
I will personally advice you to go for CAT, do MBA and fly business class later rather than stuck at TCS and go economy class. Baaki final decision will only be yours.:cheers:

apradhan:your acads are good man and you have good amount of work ex....so whats the confusion ......ya siom cant be compared with sibm but cant be ignored.....in my view you should join it .....next year might not not get this opportunity also,people sometimes become greedy and stuuborn i want IIMs and top notch colleges and next year they land up nowhere....the main advantage you have is your work ex with good academics so go for it without any dilemma.....best of luck:)

Sir i am a chemical engineer with 1 year work exp in a small pharma company.my acads are
10th - 91%
12th - 68%
Btech - 5.96/10 cgpa
I HAVE SIMPLE question sir if i clear any of the good b school exams say CMAT, OR GMAT OR SNAP or some good b school then will i get a job over dere as many companies as far as i know ask for 60% through out .I will be taking Bank loan and cant take risk if i dont get any offer for an interview atleast in campus recruitment.

Came across the right thread at the right time!
Going through the most confusing phase of my life.. Would be an engg graduate in 2 months..screwed CAT this time.. faired decent in IIFT and SNAP .. So feel should give it another chance!
But I am in a dilemma that should I just take a drop and prepare or I should move out of my town, join somewhere and then prepare simultaneously..
I am a COmp Sci engg but have no intentions at all to join an IT firm..
i can try my hands on business analysis or some consultancy firm..
But then I think that those 4-5 months will be the most crucial one to prepare and i'll have to join anew job.so maybe i won't be that focused..
another option is joining some NGO..but i fear that it will change my career path completely...though it will just be part time but it's said that once u enter a field u end up being in the same..Another thing is Teach for India fellowship .. but it's of 2 yrs duration so am dubious whether to go for it or not..I also have option of ICICI fellowship..it's of 15 months..
You guys can see the level of confusion in me!!
I would like to seek for your opinion on choosing among--> Drop and appear CAT12/ Go for a job gain an exp of 1-2 yrs/ join NGO "get some real experience" and then go for CAT this year or a year or 2 later????

Hi,i have 6+ year of professional work ex after my Graduation( 10+2 +4 ) 2 years in sales and now 4 years in core banking. also have MBA distance learing in marketing from Sikkim manipal. since i dont hv full time Management degree hence i have v slow growth in my career, I want boost in my career so want to purse Executive MBA (full or part time) from premier institute like IIM/ SP JAIN ETC, I wish to know more about following courses and are these have some value in growth?
