I could relate a lot to this situation. I had also started writing. Wrote a little but then i feel that if the story has to go down on this forum, it has to be on the sacred AIWTSAC thread and there's still some time before that happens.

Would just advice you to stick to the job because thats what i did and continue to prepare. If I can get 99.04 in CAT and a XL(BM) call from XAT, so can you.

For further questions PM me.

sunshine kindly respond to my querry.....:))

Put this question in the MAT thread (preferably MAT 2012 thread) for a quick resolution of your query.

hi..i am taking MARKETING as my specialization in MBA 2nd year..but i am thinking of dropping MARKETING RESEARCH frm my list of subjects..as i am not good with numbers and don't have much interest in it..so is it a good decision..plz help me?

If you do have an option of choosing one subject over the other (in which you have more interest in) then go for it.
Hello Puys!!
Came across the right thread at the right time!
Going through the most confusing phase of my life.. Would be an engg graduate in 2 months..screwed CAT this time.. faired decent in IIFT and SNAP .. So feel should give it another chance!
But I am in a dilemma that should I just take a drop and prepare or I should move out of my town, join somewhere and then prepare simultaneously..
I am a COmp Sci engg but have no intentions at all to join an IT firm..
i can try my hands on business analysis or some consultancy firm..
But then I think that those 4-5 months will be the most crucial one to prepare and i'll have to join anew job.so maybe i won't be that focused..
another option is joining some NGO..but i fear that it will change my career path completely...though it will just be part time but it's said that once u enter a field u end up being in the same..Another thing is Teach for India fellowship .. but it's of 2 yrs duration so am dubious whether to go for it or not..I also have option of ICICI fellowship..it's of 15 months..
You guys can see the level of confusion in me!!
I would like to seek for your opinion on choosing among--> Drop and appear CAT12/ Go for a job gain an exp of 1-2 yrs/ join NGO "get some real experience" and then go for CAT this year or a year or 2 later????

Plz consider my acads too..
10th- 79.2
12th-71
grad - 8.12 CGPA
extra curricular- Good!

P.S. Won't settle for an average or above average college!

Preparing only for CAT/XAT/SNAP for the entire year without working/studying comes across as a big negative during the second stage of the selection process which is the GD/PI round.

Most of the top b-schools consider work-ex of atleast 8 months duration, else the candidate is given no weightage for work-ex.

The third option looks the most viable. Have full time work-ex of atleast 1 year and prepare simultaneously/appear later for CAT.

Hope it helps.

Another thought is going for SAP certification course!

It totally depends on your interest level. If SAP is where your true interest lies, go for it!

If you leave your job now, there will be a gap of atleast 1 year (most colleges start their session in June) in your profile. It will be a negative and would call for a lot of justification during the GD/PI round.

Since you have endured for so long, bear with it for another 2-3 months till your bond gets over.

Well, if money is not a constraint, then you can quit your job, join some NGO, and keep preparing simultaneously for MBA.

My Profile,
10th- 78.2%
12th- 72.6%
B.E.(Mechanical)-8.19 CGPA
Work ex- 39 months in BALCO-Vedanta .
I scored 93.92% in 2008 but didn't applied to any of the colleges as thought of getting some work ex and then go for mba. Finally this year I gave nearly all the big exams but didn't scored well in any of the exams, somehow managed to clear the cutoff for SIOM (symbiosis institute of operations mgmt) n attended the GD/PI.
My question is dat if I convert SIOM, should I join it or not.????
PLss suggest.

SIOM is a good college for Operations. If operations is your true call and you don't have the liberty of waiting for another year and give MBA another shot, then you can go for it.
Hi,

Great thread i should mention. Now , the dilemma of my life is tht i've cleared my ibps po exam with a decent score of 170 (obc) and have attnded the gd and pi process of 3 of symbiosis colgs (scmhrd, siib , sims with snap score 93.25) .
I've got selected 4 sims.
now in case i get selected in siib and not in scmhrd(god forbid) shud i go 4 an mba or make career in banking sector as po. Its not just abt the pay packages i want 2 know abt career growth. Please help me out in making a decision.
thanks in advance

Well, the answer lies in your field of interest. I feel the options that you have are very different. If you choose for an MBA, you will be a student, you will not be earning. Instead you will need to shell out good amount of money (approx 10 lakhs) to fund your education.

Having said that, doing an MBA (siib/scmhrd) will open the doors of many opportunities for you. You have the option of making your career in finance/marketing/hr etc. Needless to say the personal growth and the networks you'll make by doing an MBA is also an added advantage.

Hope it helps. 😃
Sir i am a chemical engineer with 1 year work exp in a small pharma company.my acads are
10th - 91%
12th - 68%
Btech - 5.96/10 cgpa
I HAVE SIMPLE question sir if i clear any of the good b school exams say CMAT, OR GMAT OR SNAP or some good b school then will i get a job over dere as many companies as far as i know ask for 60% through out .I will be taking Bank loan and cant take risk if i dont get any offer for an interview atleast in campus recruitment.
KINDLY GUIDE ME SIR

ritesh@ No worries....as your acads are not so bad that a company would refuse an offer if you perform well in your interview....Ya there are some so called good companies who put a barrier of 60% throughout but no issues, there are many good companies who search for people who could solve their problems, give productivity to the company....so in my view you will not have any problem in getting job as you have work experience....you will be preffered more than your counterparts.....It doesnt mean the companies taking 60% throughout are the only companies ,there will be many more companies coming your way paying you handsome package and not asking gfor 60% throughout....so dont worry my friend be firm on your decisions.....One more thing if you perform well in your mba then no body can stop you from acquiring handsome package....best of luck 😃

thanks a lot for your promp response...but i've a small query left.
If i leave this job in the month of august then also till next year i won't have any work to do apart from preparations for MBA....so will it be a negative point in my profile under such circumstance?

I have done B.E in computers passed out in 2011
Did'nt get campus placements and dint look for off campus jobs
As i wanted to do MBA
As the MBA season 2011 is almost over,I stand very slim chances of a good b-school and as yet i have no job !!!!!!!!!!!
Even if i try next year i wont have one whole year of job experience and it may be just around 8-10 months !!!!!!!!!

How should i go about?????Im lost:banghead::banghead::banghead:

You are welcome.
Ideally speaking you should not quit your job during your preparation of MBA.
But looking at the specifics in your case, I advised you to at least continue with your job till August/September.

Probably you can quit this job in August (thus not getting penalized over breaking the bond) and then September onwards pick up some other job to your liking (or may be an NGO).

Having said that, let me reiterate, that this is a very high risk strategy. God forbid, but if you don't get into the college of your liking in the batch of 2013-2015, then things can get pretty bad.

Do make a wise and informed decision, after making a realistic evaluation of your strengths and weaknesses.
