If you're targeting only the top 10-15 MBA colleges of India,I see no reason why you should be confused about taking Marketing as your specialization(Majors). The top FMCG companies like HCCB,P&G;,RB etc. don't differentiate much between a fresher and a work-ex guy as far as your learning is good and you've the capability to reflect your managerial (classroom) learning in real business scenario.Other good companies like Dell,HP also doesn't differentiate much.Actually,IT folks with good number of IT work-ex really excels in B2B marketing in any IT product based company. So,stop worrying about these issues and prepare well for the CAT/XAT next year :)

Today , I came across S P Jain's GMBA program . It sounds good and is suitable for workex > 3 yrs. Now, I can apply for Nov 2012 intake by giving GMAT/ SPJAT in next 3-4 months OR prepare for CAT 2012 and try for top 15 colleges . Confused which shall I go for ?

@nipa........pay the fees of SDMIMD pay it(as you do not have any other option) and wait for TAPMI and IFMR because they are rated very high.Tapmi is worth waiting and do not think much even if you loose some money in that process. I think you should make it to TAPMI with that profile provided you did well in GDPI and you r waitlisted now.....And yes do you have answer to my question please help yaar......

This time I am the most confused person on this planet and need your help. My academic performance is disastrous (X,XII,Btech(IT)=80.6, 62, 60.47(till 7sems):banghead:. CAT 11 score is 85.80.MAT feb 2012 =794.5 I seriously don't want to go for job right now in IT field and do coding rest of my life. Moreover, am afraid to do any job right now. I am not confident. I want to study hard for CAT12 but to be very practical am not sharp and I do not expect percentile more than 95 in CAT12. And I can not get more than this MAT score for sure because this time I got some extra time during exam. My parents will sponsor my MBA(10-15 lakh max) so money is not the problem but sitting jobless in home after my B.Tech can hurt their sentiments.:drinking: I joined TIME Panipat but faculty was not good or may be they were sticking to basic level because of poor quality of students in my batch. Can you suggest me a better institute in delhi for weekend batch or I should enroll for TIME Panipat again (only for test series) Should I go for ITM NM or CHRIST or wait for CAT12 ? I am a 22 year boy with no industry knowledge. Your suggestion will help me take decision for my LIFE.
Regards, Amar Girdhar.
Amar,
one year ago I was at the same place you are right now. But I made a mistake, which I don't want anyone else to do.
If you are confident that you can score more next time, you should go for it, but you will have to work really really hard for that. It's not easy second time. having said that, I also think you should try and take up a job now. I am a engineer myself, still I hated coding thing which, in the end I have to head for. Just like you, I too thought that I'd do better second time. But it didn't happen for me.
So a piece of advice, whatever you do, keep a plan B and also a plan C. Never bank on only one thing. Always have a backup plan for CAT and all these MBA exams, so that if they fail you, you can turn up to your job, come back stronger. And besides, work-ex matters, doesn't matter how much freshers hate the work-ex guys. They are tough competitors.
Choose your options carefully. That's it. All the best.
Now after giving it serious thought I've decided to put up my question... Ive got:- 91% 10th 75% 12th 6.3 CGPA ECE
I'm still not sure if an MBA/ PGDBM is what I want. Every now and then I'm convinced that engineering and the peaceful, technical life that of researcher is where I belong. Still I need something hard reality to understand what am I eligible for and then I'll pour my efforts into it. Any help/ suggestions guys/girls would be appreciated. I'm pretty sure there are hordes of people with the same dilemma, or have remained in that dilemma and now have solved it and are leading successful, contented happy lives. So please PM your inputs would be grateful!!!
Please help me with my dilemma ! I am a Humanities student who has graduated from DU. I have good marks in 10th and 12th and decent ones in my grad. For the last two years i was preparing for IAS and gave my first attempt at it in 2011 clearing pre but flunked mains. I have dropped two years preparing for it and dont want to continue this any further. I want to pursue a professional degree or a job now!
I have a final call from IMT ghaziabad for pgdm finance and a call for a bank po job !
Since i have not studied maths since 10th will finance prove difficult for me? I was good with maths but took arts stream after 10th !
Should i join the bank po and prepare furthure for civils? does the po job allow me ample time for it??
I want to take up one of the two options please guide. Seriously confused !
In my opinion you should take up IMT Ghaziabad Finance. No Job Gives you ample time for Civils Preparation. All People who wants to appear for civils take up finance only. Study hard for 2 Years and then give civils once again with Management/Economics as one Paper and the one as desired by you(if combination is allowed). People with management as one paper has the highest success rate. Further IMT Ghaziabad is one of the most reputed institute.
Hope this helps.
I have a question. Was Your 2 years gap a serious issue during interview. M thinking about the same(one year drop) thats why worried. Please PM me as to how you justified it. ATB

Thanks For your advice ! My serious concern is that i haven't studied maths as a subject since 10th Though the quant section aptitude for MBA exams didn't prove hard but i have heard Finance has complicated maths ! I have no problem with maths but should i study some higher level maths before entering the course ? If yes , what parts of mathematics??
As for 2 year drop, yes it figured in every interview of mine as simply asking what i was doing for the last two years? I justified it by giving my civil services preparation and appearance in the exam as reason (as in this exam different phases take almost a year to get over ) As my reason was genuine and understandable they did not inquire further.
Hi!! I have done my Bachelor of Arts in International Hospitality Management and have a work experience in hospitality industry in India for 6 years post which I am working for an online travel company for last 7 months. I have inclination towards and want to pursue my career in Marketing/Advertising. I want to do a full-time masters degree but am confused over a Masters in Marketing Degree or an MBA. Kindly suggest which one shall be more effective and worth keeping ROI and course duration in prospect. Also, please suggest me on to choose for Indian University/College or American/Canadian/Australian University/College.
If you can solve Quant of CAT Finance should not be that difficult to handle. Only 10th Std maths is sufficient for studying finance. I myself had Financial Management in BE. What significance can Calculus, Mathematical Induction etc has for MBA students so donot worry.
I have one more doubt. How IMT Selected you for Finance. All PGDM have common first year unless it is Infrastructural or Rural Management. Anyways take an informed decision. ATB
Please Help me out guys. You can also send me private message regarding this.
If you have the potential to score 95 in CAT 2012 go for it. No point in doing MBA just for sake of it. With 90-95 you can get A+ or at worst B++ grade colleges(your acads may be a problem) so why to settle for c grade. Take an informed decision. Fetching 4-5 Lac job is not difficult with a BE degree so why do an MBA from worthless colleges. Even if you fail you can land into a PO or some good job . ATB
So should I look for a job or just sit at home and go for CAT 12 ?
First look for CAT 12 as prime goal. If you fail in that then you will land up no where. During that process you can give PO or some generalist job exam. It will give you a practice and confidence both. You can also join some courses or NGO to justify your gap. To give you an idea 4 of my SCHOOL friends did MBA from one of the institutes mentioned by you and only one have got placed for 15k/month. They did B-com/BBA in undergrads

IMT Ghaziabad offers u admission to course with specialization pre decided Though the first year curriculum of all the courses is same but in second year the person has to carry on the specialization that you were offered an admission for !
You can check the IMT website for any more clarification !
