Hi friends!

hi.... i am btech (electrical) 2012 passout with 80 % career... i gave GATE & hopefull of getting admission in one of the NIT's after scoring 95 %ile in GATE.... i am at a dilema .... actually i want to be in a corporate sector but most of the NIT's have hardly any placements for mtech guys... so can i join MBA after MTECH ???? will i face any problem during placement time bcoz interviewer will grill me y i was doing mba after mtech ?
option 1) join any NIT's across the country & then i plan to do MBA(power management) from UPES / NPTI after completing my MTECH in power system.....
is my decision justified or am i being a fool ???
option 2 )is to drop one more year, stay at home & prepare next year to get into IIT's which have very gud campus placement for mtech thereby loosing one precious year & also there is no gurantee bcoz IIT cutoff goes around 99 %ile in gate ...
please help & guide quickly !!!!

I think it depends on how badly you want to get into an MBA course this year considering the growth at your workplace, comparing it with the growth you will have after 2 years at GIM.
Like if you are getting decent growth, & if you would still will be able to manage your MBA preps, i think you should give another try, specially considering your overall performance this year.
Had I been at your place, I would have definitely given another shot at CAT, but you know yourself better, so Good Luck with your decision! 😃

In any MBA entrance interview, freshers from B Tech are grilled over this a lot, & an MBA directly after M Tech has to have a very sound support/explanation. If you can justify your decision well, no one can say you a No..Specially it is easier, if you are clear with your goal of getting only into the power sector/management.
However, practically it would be wasting your 2 years & hard-earned M Tech Degree from NITs if you join directly, better get some work-ex in your area.Placements at NITs can't be that bad! Have seen people working at core sectors after their M Tech & then doing their Executive MBA from good B Schools.

one question what exactly you want to do 3-4 years hence??? work in core engineering sector or in the management or administration side??
hey puys !!
this thing has been pestering me for quite some time !!
so here we go ..
10th : 83
12th : 62
b tech ( biotech ) : 72
I chose biotech cuz i loved bio back then but 1 fine day (my 3rd year) i entered in HONDA shwrum and booked honda stunner. since then i have been a bike enthusiast. I even used to sit with my mechanic and learn how to service my bike and all those stuff. It has been my passion.
Then placement season started and i was placed in INFY . I asked my teachers and they told me tht in IT i will get projects related to biotech. but unfortunately i was not absorbed in those kind of projects and now i am totally off the track. I have developed my interest in Supply chain management and want to work in a same profile but in some automobile company ( 2 -3 years down the lane ).
So basically everything boils down to " doing my btech in biotech will i be able to make it to an automobile company with a desired profile" ??

Your decision is completely yours and it should depend on 2 things:
1) Where do you see yourself 4 yrs frm now.
2)Can you try again for another year without losing focus.
Answer to this 2nd question is important. As i myself in 2011 left 2-3 decent colleges thinking that i will try hard for the coming year. But throughout the year job pressure kept mounting, i did well in job, preparations were also not bad, but somehow lost the game. Also doing job, managing leaves, going for tests etc gets too hectic as you rise.
Now its your call and GIM is a very decent college according to me, but looking at the fact that this yr it has increased the fees and placements hv nt been great( strictly according to me)i would hv given another try if i were in your shoes.
hi Sanjay,
Thanks for the response.
Which one will be ideal for me.. a 1 Year course or 2 year course.?
Regards,
Hari
Hari,I really can'y help you in choosing which one would be better for you.
The decision rests with you.I could only tell that 1 year course is rigorous and very demanding.
Many candidates prefer 2 years of MBA as this gives them ample time to go through all the managerial concepts and make them ready for the opportunities and challenges which they might encounter post MBA.
So,I all could say is at the end of the day,its entirely your decision. But then your decision must be backed by a lot of thought process and research :)

Nitin,Its always good to see you :)
So,Your story is not all different from the rest of junta who are working in IT industry. They promises big but then the end result is always something you never wanted :)
Anyway, coming back to your query - You've all the chances in the world to get into a good automobile company(or any core company) with a desired profile in SCM. I guess 90% of the junta gives MBA because they want to get and work in a profile they've always wanted to and that's the reason people take Marketing/Finance/Operation/HR as their specialization in the 2nd year of their MBA.Just make sure you do your MBA from a reputed institute which has a past legacy of attracting some of the best companies for operations/SCM profile.Since SCM is a niche subject in itself,so before taking admission make sure the faculties are good.Operations is one of the best profiles to work for and it really has a huge demand in the industry. All you need to have is a sound knowledge and their applications.

frankly speaking i am confused what i want to do 3- 4 years .... means actually i want to learn more about my technical field so i am interested in pursuing mtech now but i dont want to end up in the world of teaching right from the beginning because doing that would mean i can never watch the corporate sector enviornment....
i want to do a job which gives me quality time to spend with my family and be in a city/ town like enviornment..... though teaching is ideal for having quality family time but i also desire to have a look at how the corporate world works like..... generally all the core industrial recruitments at the post of engineers after btech have to work inside industrial floor with machines and generally all industries are located in interior places or outskirts in some village, hence i dont like that lifestyle...
being from an electrical engg background i guess with the ever-growing potential of energy sector, mba( power mangmnt is a safe bet as i can be a manager & have a white collar job .... as per ur frnds ,yes IIT's offer good campus placements but NIT'S have only nice placement only at btech level, they hardly have 5 -10 % placement among mtech guys....
Hi Friends,
below is my profile till now...
10th : 88%
12th : 96%
B-tech : 76%
IT experience till date : 1 year 4 months.
right now i'm not satisfied with the job i do or with the money i earn. I want to do an MBA but my dilemma is
why i want to do an MBA?(is it only for more package?) anyways i'm middle of figuring it out.
i want to aim for 2013 CAT (started preparation for cat 2012)and pursue MBA from Top 6 colleges.
By then i would get admission in 2014 and then would be having nearly 3 years 6 months experience.
i'm fed up with this IT job as i'm in a service based company nothing much creativity in my work copy and paste 😃
and i know i can do better than this.
I want to change my line of work completely to finance .so having 3 yrs 6 months exp in IT and then 2 full yrs MBA , shifting to finance is it a good idea?
what are all the difficulties i will come over in Interviews/will i get admissions in IIM A/B/C as the admission process is quite cubersome?
in these 3 yrs 6 months, i also want to plan for CFA level 1 atleast so then will it make my finance option any better?
what kind of specialications i can chosse in MBA (relating to my IT experince)? and what are all the jon roles i get?
Kindly help me friends , reliazing that i have wasted much of valuable time in my life sitting idle.
Dont want to waste any more.

Buddy,you're totally confused :)
Now,don't take my comments on the face value.Confusion sometimes is good because it really helps you get back to some serious thinking, makes you look at your options, evaluate them and select the best of them.
You're a fresher and I'm sure with a little effort, you'll surely get a job.Think and see if you're really happy with the job you've got or M-tech/MBA is the thing you want to do.Time is on your side and so you've enough time to look at your options and then take an action.Prepare well for the GATE next year and try to get into good college(IITs).If not,NITs but then whereever you go,just try to give 100% and be among the best brains of the class.Jobs are there for even guys passing out from NITs with good percentage and having knowledge.Don't think too much about 5 or 6% getting the job from NITs.You're generalizing the data here.
M-Tech guys from IITs gets awesome placements and I'm sure the condition is not as bad in NITs as you've mentioned.Try getting more information and then take a decision.

thanks buddy... your first two lines were very encouraging... yes , i accept that i am confused as many people say me but that only means my mind is trying to discuss the pros & cons of each options that i have infront of me ri8 now & choosing the best one..... well if u would like to hear the reasons of mine taking such a decision about joining any mtech from NIT's that i will be getting right now with my present gate rank as a fresher is this......
besides the fact that i have inclination to learn more, doing mtech from one of NIT's in country will secure my career as a faculty, because i will always have the option of appling for the post of asst. professor in any of the thousand engg colleges across country at any point of time of my life..... thats the biggest benefit.... some people are asking why not mba ri8 now ??? well my take is that joining any mediocre mba college right now after btech may get me into a situation whr if i dont like the job world in future i wud have no option rather than sticking to the job..... so having an eual inclination of learning more as well wanting to have a look into corporate world , this thought came across my mind that i should grab the oppurtunity of doing mtech from NIT & then would look up into the mba in power management which wud match with my background studies !!!!.... would like to hear your & others take on this ...
