Hi ,
Im currently working in an industrial automation firm,i have two year bond with company i work .Im thinking of giving CAT 2013 .
I' want to know about the scope of doing MBA after working in automation field .Even though i have a first class degree ,i took a year more to complete my b.tech .Will this effect my chances of getting into good b school ?
Hi, I had a bit of a dilemma. I have got admissions in to one of the top 15 B-schools as per pagalguy's latest ratings. I have 44 months of experience in a top MNC, telecom+software. I checked the placements record for the mentioned college it is decent. But the average package is very near to what my current CTC is. Also, is it prudent to go for a 2 year program now after the experience that I have. Are there really good lateral placements happening at the other top colleges besides the IIMS.
The advantage of going for this 2 year program is that it is a lot cost-effective and cheaper than the GMAT programs. In a big dillema. Have to pay the fees soon, and can't decide on this one factor - is my experience a negative for the 2 year course.
Hi,
I need some help on what to do now...I have gots calls from a couple of colleges, and I have done my best in the GDPI of those colleges, but I m not sure of anything. I hope and wish that I ll be able to convert the calls.
If not, I have decided to take up CAT again next year. ( Hoping that there will be no need for that ) Currently I am working in an IT company, and as of now, I want to utilize time effectively. I was thinking of joining Toasmasters for public speaking ( as instead of doing nothing, something will be useful). Is that a good idea? Will public speaking help me in the long run
I thought of doing some certifications ( something that will end in maximum of 4 months), but all certifications are related to finance, and I want to pursue my career in marketing.
Please help me
Hi,
..........I was thinking of joining Toasmasters for public speaking ............
Hey man. Can you throw a little light on toastmasters. How does it work? Is it free?
Hi...Have this query for quite long now !!
I am having a work ex of 3 years now - this year have only a single call for a HR premier -but am not much sure if i will join...
I am looking for a clear scenario on B school placements with people with 4 year work ex -as next year I will have 4 year work ex !!
What is the real scenario of lateral placements in Indian B-schools ?
Hii to all,
My profile is:-
1) 10th - 75.5% (Raj. Board)
2) 12th - 81.38% (Raj. Board)
3) B-Tech - 8.65 CGPA (NIT, Jaipur)
4) Job - 21 months experience in a PSU at package of 5.5 LPA at my hometown
5) CAT 2010 - 90% without preparation
6) CAT 2011 - 97.61% with 3-4 preparation along with job
Guys please advise me what to do from these two options
1) I have waiting in XIMB, PGDM and it will be easily cleared in first list. Does i have to join it?
2) Prepare one more year to get some good college and also improve my english and communication skills.
Also i am scared that with my terrible english and communication skills i have now, if i will join XIMB i will completely mess up my 2 year of MBA and will end getting a very bad placement. As already i am getting 35K per month at my hometown from my job any package below 10-12LPA is not so useful for me.
I think i can work hard for 1 more year and will get good college and also improve my english to become at par with MBA level.
Please give your views guys what i have to do, whether i have to join XIMB or prepare for 1 more year?
should i join christ or itm navi mumbai... plz help..

I will suggest you to prepare for one more year. Hone you English and crack the exam.

I am thinking how bad it could be.
1. 97.61 in CAT means a decent percentile in VA.
2. This post doesnt reflect "terrible english"
3. You have cleared XIMB. You cant have "terrible english and communication skills"
If you think you can get a better college next year, you shoud try it as you are working a decent job.
But ENGLISH shouldnt be any reason for leaving XIMB.
You have 3 months before starting your MBA and 2 years in MBA. You can improve it in that time if you feel you lack in it.
tapmi or gim????????????????????? confused to d power of infinity..
I m a Fresher from a commerce background and will pursue mba in finance.......

It will not affect if you could justify it in interviews. There are people with similar cases studying in top B-Schools.
As far as automation is concerned, it will help you in differentiating your profiles from others and shall surely help you.
askance SaysIn a big dillema. Have to pay the fees soon, and can't decide on this one factor - is my experience a negative for the 2 year course.
Experience shall not be negative if you get into relevant profile where company can leverage your work ex.
Going or not for 2 year MBA depends on your expectation from MBA, if package is the main concern then colleges other than top IIMs shall not be able to give you what you want from them after lateral placements.
However, if you want a better profile or change your career path slightly then these non top IIM colleges in top 15 can serve the purpose.
At the end of the day, you have to decide why you want to do MBA and then decide accordingly.
Hi,

I thought of doing some certifications ( something that will end in maximum of 4 months), but all certifications are related to finance, and I want to pursue my career in marketing.
1. All the best for final converts
2. Yes, joining toastmasters is a good idea and shall surely help you .
3. Suggest not to go for certifications if you wish to pursue career in marketing. Rather you can start going through Kotler's marketing book which is taught across B-Schools during 1st mod. 😃
1. Go for Narsee Monjee 2 year MBA as it is a reputed college and has very good placements.(a bit scared with my huge work experience as compared to fellow mates there)
2. Wait for one more year and apply for Executive MBA from IIM's which require 5 years work-ex. (but who knows what will happen next year, admit or reject)
Had i been in your shoes, i would have opted going for Executive MBA. However, if it is necessary for you to go for MBA this year itself, then NM is not a bad option. 😃
All the best!
What is the real scenario of lateral placements in Indian B-schools ?
It varies from B-School to B-School. Tough to give a generic answer.

Go for option 2 in my opinion.
It suits your expectations as well as self belief more .

No comparison of b schools to be done. :)

Yes, it will be counted as work ex if you get it written in the certificate from the person who owes the business in your family.

No comparison of b schools to be done. 😃 Please PM the seniors to seek advice as well as talk to students/alums of both the colleges to get better idea of finance opportunities at both colleges.
PG help me out:-(
I've no option left apart from pursuing MBA from ICFAI.
But IBS, Hyderabad:high fees & probably wont make it.
Though i've chance for other ibs campus.
I'm in a fix which campus to take...
1. ibs, mumbai
2. ibs, gurgaon
3. ibs, pune
I've to make up my mind for the above campus.
So, which 1 should i go for?
Suggestions please
You can always try again.
MBA from IBS will never make you feel of the real taste of MBA and once an MBA you possibly cannot opt for it again, so better give some more serious thoughts before joining.
Hi Puys,
I am a B.Tech. CS graduate with 3.5 years of IT experience, currently working in an IT MNC.
Right now I am facing the toughest decision of my life. Gave MBA entrance exams this year but could only convert Narsee Monjee MBA(core).
But I am unable to decide what to do. Dangling between the below options:
Though I know only I can make my final decision, yet I want suggestions from fellow puys. Maybe someone can give me valuable advice.
I would say that you can apply for the exec course next year. But then you will have around 4.5 yrs of work-ex. Some colleges require 5 yrs I believe.
A better option I would say is ISB. If you can crack the GMAT, looking at your profile and work ex, i think ISB will be the best bet. I would rate ISB's course above all the remaining PGPX courses in the country.

There is a small minority of people who do a dual masters degree. Am not sure how many guys do a MBA after a ME, but I know a few people who have done a Masters before going for an MBA. If you can defend yourself well (the reason for doing two masters), there is no reason why this will turn out to be a negative point. If anything, you will score more points over others since a masters degree has some weightage in the selection process of many colleges..
plzzzz help....
