hi everyone..... i need ur argent advice guys,,,,,,,,i have decided to take RETAIL management in BIMTECH as against MARKETING & SALES in AMITY,NOIDA.....is this a right decision?? plz help me as the last date is fast approaching!!! plzzzz...
As concerning college BIMTECH is far better than Amity in my opinion.
Go for BIMTECH if you really want to do MBA in Retail Management
I have a 100%ile in CAT 2011. Iam a fresher and thought all my interviews went as planned. I infact loved the way, i did my calcutta interview. However iam rejected in IIM C and waitlisted at 44 in IIM b.
Let us say, in the worst case scenario, i dont convert A or L. What should be my next step. I applied only for the IIMs and didnot sit for placements at college. I will give CAT 2012 as well, but i dont know how i shud justify my loss of one year. Currently planning for an NGO or something of that sort. will it be detrimental???
P:S i have a habit of thinking too much into the future. So, please dont make fun of me. I overthink a lot

I'm sure you'll convert atleast one of the IIM calls :) Don't be tensed.A & L are still to come out with their results. Now if we talk about worst case scenario(which i sincerely hope doesn't come true),you're left with no other choice but to join a company and gain one year of work-ex.You can simultaneously prepare for CAT/XAT and please don't just rely on IIMs.I know IIMs are great but then you must apply to other top B-Schools as a back up. PS:I'm sure I would be proved right about you converting A/L. Best of luck :)
10th ..83.6 12th ..66.6 BTech (i am in final year ) : 6.33 cpi
work ex : 0 with an academic background like this is it possible to get into top 20 colleges ? (like they do give weightage to academics ..so i am a little tensed )

Ofcourse buddy! The good thing is you have everything above 60 which is the probable cut off for general students in some of the colleges. If you r eyeing for top 6iims.then frankly u have a feeble chance unless u can back it up with good amount of quality work ex and 99.5+ %ile in cat.As the rest of the b schools are concerned 10-25% is the average weightage given to acads which u can make up with a brilliant gd/pi. Hope this post helps!:-)
10th: 87% 12th: 62%:banghead: B.Tech: 7.305 CGPA (Biotechnology) (I had 6 backlogs in B.Tech) GMAT: 720 W.E. 36 Months (IT) International Experience: NO Extra Curricular: Decent (Volunteering for an NGO from 2 Years, Writing for a national magazine from 1 year)
My concern is can an awfully bad score in 12th stop me by doing MBA from a college (Top 15) in India? Though I am okay for 2 years MBAs and as well as with Executive MBAs of 1 year. (I can wait for another 2 years to get a 5 years of experience if I get a very good college.)
Can I apply and get into IIMs, XLRI, ISB, SJMSOM or MDI?
Can I get a scholarship if at all apply to US or UK universities with good essays?
If at all there's any problem can you please suggest me for improvement in my profile?
I think the type of profile you have it wont be a justice to it if you join any of these colleges it would be better if you aim for top 20 colleges with a better score next year but if you are desperate to join this year then go for TAPMI
GUYS I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 My Profile goes like this:- Xth-81.80 Xth-81.50 B.E-8.92(MIT Manipal - 2010) Work Ex-18 months (L&T; left in Nov)
Now From Nov onwards I Started Preparing for CAT. My Scores improved from 55percentile to 97percentile in these 4-5 months. I am waiting for just 2 results and then will move to chennai(to prepare) if things does not go as per plan.
Now i will not be taking job before DEC as construction field is too hectic(17-18 hrs work) and want to give my best shot at CAT 12. By this time I have planned to take CFA and a Language Course in Chennai. Will a break of a year put a hole in my CV? Would it be sensible for me to think for IIM's, FMS, XLRI, IIT's next time(i.e 2013-15)? I can join an NGO if I get adequate time after my preparation. I Know CAT is Unpredictable but assuming it does n't go that way(will put my heart and soul into it).
So Guys can anyone of you suggest me alternatives as to how can i manage this break so that i still remain in the race for top B School next time given In the month of Dec I am petty sure of bagging a mediocre job of a PO or Site Engineer?
Hi puys, Having >4 years work ex in IT. gng for cat2012.. Will it affect my chances during admission.. (in a negative way, i heard this so)
Please do reply. Varun.
Varun, having more than 4 years of work-ex won't affect your chances in maximum top B-Schools.Some of the B-Schools like SPJain & VGSOM(IIT Kharagpur) really gives a considerable weightage for the work-ex and you've a good chance of getting through these colleges. Not sure about top IIMs though because their criteria changes every other year. But all in all I would I would say that there are some B-Schools which you could definitely target.

I would suggest you to get a job first. The job may be demanding but then I'm sure you could manage to get enough time to prepare for the CAT. In the mean time you could join an NGO.That would help you getting engaged in something and would also make up for your ideal time. Getting CFA certified is good and this would really help you make your profile more strong. Sanjay Kumar VGSOM 2011-13
Actually i took a bad decision to go for construction field initially even though i had many other options. Actually in construction business 15-18 Hrs(sundays included) of work is normal. While in L&T; also i tried a lot but was not able to study after enormous work. I know its tough not to work for 1 year but will it prove to be a serious deterrent?
Actually to take another job i will have to again prepare for PSU/Gov Entrances which will again be difficult since i am out of touch with engg subjects and its very difficult to get a job in diff sectors with 18 months exp. So can my Language Course and CFA compensate for the loss of year? Actually i would have been glad to get associated with an NGO but do not know how to go about it. Can you help me out on this? Will the lost year prove fatal during placement at a B-School?
According to me leaving a job is strict no no in todays tumultous market and also considering the shady nature of CAT. What you can do is search for other avenues in L&T; itself. Ill gv u my example.Even i am from Manufacturing background where u need to shell out at least 12 hrs/day.Also work is very much physical/manual and technical. So citing some personal reasons and also showing tht im interested in learning something new i moved to Supply Chain and Logistics in my company. This gave me more time and energy plus im learning a lot new things. And L&T; is a good company to work.Even my friends here hv changed sectors. So just try for it and see what happens.U can cite some health reasons as well.
Even last yr i was in ur shoes and thought of leaving job.But thank god i didnt as even after toiling hard, i dont knw how and why i settled with less marks. Other exams acted as my savior. If everything goes well for u its good, but what if things dont go well.
Why is everyone of the belief that HR is meant for girls, Marketing for guys, while Finance for both? When I tell someone that HR is what I want to do, they raise their eyebrows and give me such a dirty look as if they have serious doubts on my masculinity! But then sometimes I wonder, can the majority be wrong or is it just me who is really wrong? I don't want to make a compromise with any course or college now as I shall have to suffer with it for the rest of my life.
I don't care much about what others think and I am a very open-minded person. I do believe that in today's day and age, it is talent and skills that assure success, coupled with luck and timely opportunities. Yes, I agree it is a marketing or finance guy who will eventually end up being CEO of a company and one should aim high. Yes, I do believe one can set benchmarks in marketing and finance and that growth in both is much accelerated than in HR.
So, is HR really an average career choice?! I know most of you would say, go for what you like/love to do. But what more reasons can you give to justify HR as a good career choice?
Hello,I have a query regarding which is a better option b/w IBS Mumbai and ITM navi mumbai, kharghar campus ,to take admission.Right now I have confirmed selection for both of these in hand and really confused on which one to take.I am still waiting for results from other B-schools but the last date for both of these are on 18th april so need to secure at least one of the options. Need urgent RESPONSE!

HR is a good career choice only if you do it from XLRI or TISS. Go and tell someone, you're doing HR from XLRI/TISS and no one would dare to say a word to you :) HR definitely is a very good career option but sadly in India we don't have much quality B-Schools where you could get a good learning and job in HR.While all the top indian B-Schools have a very good faculty for Marketing/Finance/Operations and they provide equally good placements,HR is something which still has not kick started the way it should have been.Majority of HR supply comes from lower rank B-schools and companies generally hire them to maintain a healthy ratio of employees:Hr. These HR guys doesn't have much to do as the companies generally use HRIS and ERP systems for their day to day HR activities. For strategic and corporate HR roles, companies generally hire from XL and Tiss only. So,these are the main reasons HR still has not got the respect it deserve.
I am 30 year old working lady working at back office level and I want to do distance learning MBA & after doing much research, I have shortlisted below two institutes as per my budget (1.5 lakh at max for full course) and eligibility (49.33 % in B.com).
But now I am confused which one to select between sikkim manipal university and AIMA delhi
Please tell me which one is better out of this two
Option 1) Sikkim manipal university - offers 2 year MBA degree - provide weekend lectures for 3 hours on staurday evening and 4 hours sunday morning at its study centres - admission process is simple - assured placement assistance - As a part of course - we have to submit 3 assignments per subject in each semester and project at the end of course while exams will be objective based - Fees 76k for full course along with weekend lectures.
OR
Option 2) AIMA delhi - offers 2 year ePGDM diploma certificate - supported by e-learning (online live lecture) at centre of Hughes net global education once in a week for 2 hours - in admission process - require mat scorecard and personal interview for admission process - placement assistance will be given in the end of course. - I was told by hughes net that assignments, case study & project will be part of course - Fees 1.15 lakh for full course.
Which one should I pick from above two - which will be better? Brandname wise which is good and which has more market value? I would prefer MBA with HR.

Thanks for your response. I agree XLRI and TISS are India's best as well as among Asia's best. I've heard SCMHRD, Pune and XISS, Ranchi also enjoy a good reputation for their specialised HR courses. Have you heard about HR from these institutes? I've got mixed responses from people. Also, other top B-schools offer HR courses too, but I guess they don't fit in the same league.
Please shed any more light if possible. Thanks in advance.
