I am 23 years old and have just completed BMS this year.....My CET percentile is 98.31...I want to give one more attempt but parents are asking me to take admission this year and quit the course after one year if I get into some good college next year....I am confuse about what to do

Firstly Work load of MBA is not easy to prepare for entrances next year You may not be able to do full justice to either MBA or Entrance If you do quit your 1 year fees may peg u back financially Finally explain the pros and cons of the decision to your parents and as these decisions make an impact on 30-40 years of your career ahead

Converted NIRMA In other xams like SNAP,XAT,NMAT i performed vry badly SO Season 11 was a disaster for me.. My prof: 10/12/BE = 76/78/67 Present Wrk Ex = 2.5 years in IT My query is that,,, shud i go for Season 12 as i think that i deserve much better than NIRMA. ????? or Taking into account the unpredictable CAT.. i shud stay with NIRMA..?? Also, Is there any big disadvantage of having more than 3 years of work ex if i give CAT this year.. @ALL Suggestions are welcome

1.I am 27 years old amd have 3.6 yrs work ex 2.I have converted one of the college between 21 and 30 th rank all india 3.Still wana do better and be in the coveted league

There is no disadvantage if u have more work ex .. But as you have more work ex your list of colleges get more condensed with 3.5 years work ex you have to try and target 20-25 b-schools .. because the other b-schools may not be able to provide u with better opportunity
To try for next year is a personal decision but if you feel you can do better than Nirma .. then why not .. who is stopping u

bro,, m in exactly same situation as of urs.. :) i hv finally decided to go for CAT 12.. coz CAT 11 was my first atmpt and i scored badly although converted nirma.. :grin:
acc to me there won't b any issue for a IT proff with less than 4 yrs exp.. untill he can state his post MBA goals clear and concisely..
regrding profile building..// get enrolled in CSR activities..as they get heavy weightage for selection in good b schools..

Getting an onsite oppurtunity from the company , and for me earning potential is alo a criterion , Puys please as I am all confused what to do , as I feel taking cat 2012 is too risky , it's nt neccesary will get a better score , and even if i get is 2 year wotrth after 4.5 year of exp , and yes with this avearge profile wat chances of 1 year course , also will a one year course help me to change my profile as well as industry , or taking mica is best bet s veryday thinks it's a very gud college and i shuldn't leave

I dont think that it should be a problem. Infact some colleges like SPJIMR prefer candidates with above 30 month work ex for their IM stream.I personally dont ascribe to the notion of joining an NGO for the heck of it, as it can be easily be caught during interviews. You may join classes for foreign language, or any ceritfication course in your stream.Develop an interesting hobby. because in the end, what a person does in his free time is what a person really is!

Good decision:). Just make sure that your profile shouldnt be made up, by joining an NGO at the nth hour. trust me, this repels the panelists like anything.

If you are interetsed in marketing, then MICA shouldnt be left. I think it has an amazing curriculum and is a heaven on earth for advertisements. All the Best. Converting MICA is a feat in itself.Congrats:grin:

hi, as you have mentioned that earning potential is also a criteria,
just try to find out yourself if you want to earn some money in the near future (say 1-2 years, keeping in view your onsite is a short to mid term one) or you want to use this time to upgrade (supposedly) your CV by going to a b-school, getting a mortgage for that study and then wait for next 1-2 years (after passing out of b-school) to earn that money.

Obv MICA is a very good choice but let me give u the actual feel of wats goin in b-schools, for finance and marketing they are preferring freshers as the company is also interested in freshers only (it is not like work-ex dont stnd a chance but very limited) however if u r going for IM, operations,etc u r having a perfect portfolio just develop some hobbies. Also as per recent trends in b-schools just associate wid some NGO u ll be definitely benefitted trust me and for now concentrate on ur CAT.

I have done my specialization in Pharmaceutics as well. It all depends on how well can you justify your decision to do MBA. I would suggest you to connect the dots and find an answer.
For eg: Bpharm...some work ex..MBA
Connect these dots and you have an answer.
Going for sectorial MBA is not preferable as it limits the scope unless we are talknig about XL/TISS/MICA. Go for some work ex, figure out what you really want to do and then make an informed choice. You never know that you may be interetsed in research and may go for MS

strange! firstly let me tell you that retail management and marketing are not mutually exclusive of each other. You have an elective of retail management during your marketing PGDM as well. Infact there are an array of opportunities to choose from after marketing.viz.,sales,business development, market research, advertisements, media and PR, retails, rural marketing and so on
My take on your questions 1) ofcousre. you cannot escape this in marketing. maybe not throughout your life but during the initial years, yes 2) same as above 3) To some extent, yes. But it can always be improved. Its never too late for anything

Comparison of B-schools is a strict no no on PG
LBSIM is a general management course , gives u the freedom to choose your specialization and your career whereas NIBM is banking specific , be very sure of making a career in banking as its a niche course
Added later , since you getting finance at LBS , you still have more freedom to choose domains within finance than at NIBM

3)Role of communication skill in marketing area - it is required for sales area, but what is most required is ur observation skill. when u ll be wid customer it is ur job to find out his needs, his limitations e.t.c that is marketing bro. and yes marketing and retail management are not completely two different areas.
