Personal Dilemma Related Queries

ok..this is my first post here and am in for some drastic help. my situation is worse than ANY one has ever been.:-)

am a 2008-11 batch passout from St. Xavier's College, kolkata with 65% marks in BBA. but at the end of the year, i flunked the LAST exam for just 5 marks and got a "general" degree with 1st division instead of a "honours" degree with 1st class. i had given CAT last year but scored disastrously. i haven't given any other MBA entrance exam. this year i gave WBJEMAT and got a ranking of 134, but partly due to non nonavailability of good college and partly due to family pressure, i let it pass. i was under West Bengal university during by 10th and 12th and scored 77% and 75% respectively. i studied pure science (physics, chemistry, maths, biology) till 12th and then studied BBA.

this time for CAT, i have enrolled under TCC management systems, kolkata but sadly due to my mother's galucoma operation, am not able to yet kick off real hard for CAT/MAT/SNAP/XAT.

i just want to ask you fellow members, is there ANY chance of me having a good future??...please give me some good honest suggestions. my father is working in private firm and i cannot sit for too many days trying for competitive examinations. am good in english but VERY poor in maths. it is also good to mention, i do not have any other qualifications like playing/singing/etc. am i on a deadlock??

N.B.: if i post this thread in a wrong thread or something, please don't flame. i drastically need your help.

Reply plzz.. I am Confused!!!

Hello,

I am a student who wants to finally so MBA from the ivy colleges like everyone else who finally wants to do a MBA. But i am really confused. I finished my +2 last year with average marks due to losing my focus. But now i want to pick up and start working toward my aim. My area of interest is business administration, So i guessed BBA would be a good option for me, But a lot of people have told me that only bba doesnt get you to the top colleges. Most of them suggested that i should do another course along with it. I dont know which course with BBA will help me to get to my final aim. Also ill need to do very well in my BBA to cover my +2 marks, So the course should not be the polar opposite of what i am doing to make my life more hell. Ill be obliged if someone could help me solve my problem.

Thank you.

What else puys? What's going on in your mind?
I know I've said a lot about HR in other threads and how it matches with my interests and bla bla. But I'm deeply saddened by the high number of girls rather than boys that want to go for this course? Its challengig to face upto this as I begin to question if I'm really digging my own grave? PS- I'm a guy.
Yes, in the list of students shortlisted for XLRI, TISS, SCMHRD, XISS, etc the ratio of boys:girls is 50:50. But I know half the junta is coming to these colleges for placements.
I like social service and I see myself doing that some 15-20 years down the line and a course in HR will keep me up to the mark for all such humane stuff.
But is my approach wrong? I believe HR includes a multitude of disciplines, one of them being social work, hence I have opted for HR as my career option. But still I ask, is my approach flawed?

I dont think there is any criteria that a BBA doesn't help you get a top college .. The people you talked to were any of them from a top college?... Keep working hard in your BBA and prepare well for cat as of now..

You stand a good chance if you do well in entrances ..

Not at all,u should follow ur instinct the reason why ppl are more inclined towards finance and marketing is that most of the CEOs earlier belonged to this trade only and operation is a high paying trade. This is a general perception.however there are cases where HR has been given the head position(HUL India) and a very hi paying job. So moral of the story ur approach is absolutely correct. way to go buddy :cheers:

To give you a management perspective

HR was earlier considered to be a support function in a company, but as the industries have evolved , companies have realized that Human resources are the key to success in the short and long term ... So HR is now considered to be a part of company strategy and with this they actively participate in decision making for the company in both long term and short term perspective .. Now regarding the gender ration , probably HR is very popular among gals and more popular than lets say finance or marketing .. But i dont think anyone needs to be sad of about the ratio.. One should follow their interests in life

And regarding social work .. i think its more related to a human than a course ..

Yah my chachu and didi are from harvard. They said that it gets tough in the selection procedure as your resume doesnt stand out. I have a lot of co curricular achievements, But the alumni saying it is waying me down.

don worry mate, take one more chance, and enjoy ur small city posting as much as you can. lemme list, I too have had 4 tries now and not even a waitlist from xl is my grouse, anyways i is good that u have 'relatively' laid back job and the peace of a small city posting; well given the option i would love to trade places wid u!

All the best and do start for the next year

Cheers

Buddy

If you wish to do MBA just for high package then i personally wont second the idea.

MBA will certainly help you in business. You will learn quite a few things in MBA ranging from basic management, how to sell your products, how to take care of finances, management of operations of your business , soft skills etc.

Basic pay varies from company to company as well as the ultimate inhand per month varies too. On an average , a top B-School will give you 65-80k per month in starting.

You can definitely get more than 1 lakh as a fresher as well.

Seeing your background, Doing MBA with operations/supply chain as specialization shall be very helpful to you.

Ohh But i think Indian B-schools give more weightage to non engineering profiles more .. Internationally its much different as they have huge pool of applicants many with high work ex .. So think about it if its Indian B-schools you are targeting then dont worry .. All the best 😃
