Since you need to pay more attention to Sec 2, I would suggest you to go for CL as well.
Also, since you are preparing full time, you would have enough time to analyse both the test series.

Last year I just completed LOD1 and LOD2 of Arun Sharma QA.
Used to do questions from Arun Sharma for DI/LR just to keep in touch with the topics.
VA was my weak area and I only covered it from the AIMCATS. Though that just made me realise what my weak areas were. towards the end i.e. in the last 1 month, I bought CAT500 from IMS and I really liked the explanations given in that book to VA questions. Tells you the complete logic behind the questions. Get hold of that book if possible. I think IMS would come up with that book only towards the end of the season.

Also, dont try and collect too many resources. take up any good book/package and try completing it at the earliest. After that your stress should be on analysing mocks. The better you analyse, the better you'll perform on the C-Day 😃 And yes pay attention to your accuracy more than your raw score in the mocks. Aim for some thing like high 90% accuracy.

Cheers 😃

dats ok ryt? anyways mocks are 3 weeks away bas.

By now i decided, i am apprehensive about ma gap affecting my selection prospects. IS resigning a very bad option. WIll it be a big spoilsport. pl reply this dilemma.
i knew its make or break. but i ought to as ma preprn is yet to begin

Buddy

Seeing your academics, your decision not to join what you have right now in hand is a wise one

Coming to resignation stuff, it wont be an issue 😃 People have done it in past and have been able to justify the same easily in interviews so it should not be an issue in your case as well 😃 Resigning wont be a spoilsport !

Go ahead, stay confident, put efforts and score well. Things shall fall in place for you

All the best!

Its unfortunate that you didnt get through the colleges you mentioned .. For a Non Engg graduate a percentage of 65 is pretty good and secondly if you do manage to get a job after your graduation and prepare then its fine .. But preparation from home adds tad bit extra pressure .. since this was your first attempt i would suggest you should try once more .. an executive MBA after 5 years something nobody can plan , if its supposed to happen it may .. but i firmly dont believe in 5 year plans or 10 years plans as nobody can tell what they will be doing 5 years hence .. and since you are only 20 .. i think you should give it a try for sure ..

I slightly disagree here because:
1. Most of the colleges give higher weightage to 10th and 12th marks, which are slightly on lower end when it comes to 12th.
2. Advantage of being non engineer is there, but when we talk of pool applying to top colleges, non engineers also have high percentage of marks, so 65 is not on higher end or pretty good when compared to pool. All is relative and nothing is absolute. 😃

I am not being pessimistic but just believe that being emotional and leaving what you have in hand is not right. Also, leaving the colleges that you mentioned and then getting into a 15-20 ranked college next year is not wise as opportunity cost of 1 year is high.

And i certainly believe that a person can plan his few years down the line and work accordingly to build his profile and achieve the results he aspired for. It is all about being self confident and working to achieve the same.

However, you have got to know both the schools of thoughts now. Evaluate them and take the decision accordingly.

All the best! :)

Thanks to both of you for your valuable suggestions ...
Really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart ...

Some of my own conclusions abt the situations :
1. Grad marks are decent, considering my stream & university .. I am surely among the top 5 % students of my university
2. As VisionIIMACL put it : "Most of the colleges give higher weightage to 10th and 12th marks, which are slightly on lower end when it comes to 12th." (thanks for being polite, its nt slightly on the lower side, its pathetic )
3. The options i have this yr are decent colleges,(around top 35), so dropping 1 yr would only b justified if i make it to a top 20 clg nxt yr .. (my targets are MDI, IIFT, SIBM, TISS, NMIMS, XIMB) ... leaving NIRMA/TAPMI & joining KJ/IMI etc(no disrespect) nxt yr will not be profitable according to me ...so dat means that i wont have any backup clgs nxt yr .. HIGH RISK
4. Now, my actual reason to do an MBA is to build a decent career in the industry (dont want to be a CEO or something), so wasnt very conscious about brand value of institute or anything like that .. its only now that i am considering that ..
5. Also, if i drop the yr, the profile will only get worse & even if i manage calls from my dream instis(I am confident of getting calls), it may b tough to convert due to profile & lack of goal clarity (I even dont have a good peer group to look up to)
6. I dont hav a job in hand bt will surely get one if I try, bt it may take upto 1 yr .. :sneaky:

Considering all of this, is there anything more u guys will like 2 add ??
Thanking u both in advance .... 😃

I think considering your 12th class marks , Varun is right in indicating that you should join somewhere this year .. atb

Hi puys!
I am in dilemma right now so thought of sharing with you...
Actually currently I am working in gurgaon for 2.5 years in an MNC and working as software engineer (IT programmar). Actually my current project and schedule are quite hectic and thus I can't devote too much time for preparation(CAT 2012).
So I tried for offcampus and got through HCL noida and got profile of Lead engineer but the pkg is same if I would be in Aricent after one promotion.
Now my manager is telling me(after my resignation) that he will promote me in next quarter surely.my HR also told me so...
Now my friends are advising me that I should not switch on same pkg(after promotion) and I should wait till next quarter till I become SSE and then I can switch to any other company with more higher pkg..

Now I am in dilemma ....should I go for HCL or not
My friends in HCL told me that life is cooler in HCL so I will be able to devote good amount of time to preparation....
Now plz advise what to do....

Nothing more to add from my end as well 😃 You have very well collated the pros and cons of both the options!

Time for you to take the call ..

Just one thing, whatever decision you take, be confident while pursuing it and stay positive that no matter what we are doing currently, we can always improve on it in future and build on our profile as well as do things that take us to our ultimate career goals in a better way !

Things might get delayed but they can never stay far for always 😃

All the best

I think its a very dicey situation .. I know you want time to prepare .. But work pressure depends a lot on projects .. What if you get hectic project in HCL .. so you will be back to square one right .. If you feel you just cant devote time then may be switching projects can be a better idea than companies .. You are already working in aricent for 2+ years and you are well versed with the work culture so you may be able to get into a project where you can get more time for yourself .. where as going to HCL will take more time to adjust initially :)

Though if the offer of HCL is very good , you can take it up ..

LOD1 is basic concept and LOD2 is the actual usage of the concepts. So, My suggestion is to complete LOD2 as well.
Isnt Norman about vocab? Vocab based ques nhi aate ab.
Also, instead of spending time on vocab, I would rather suggest spending some time getting the logic about PJs right. They are easy to solve with some logic applicability and dont require you to be too good in language.
Then, you can read random articles to get a reading habit that would help you in RCs.
For fill in blanks type questions, reading and practicing is the only thing that will help.
These 3 topics pretty much cover a majority of VA questions.

Dont see the mocks as just 3 weeks away. Keep on working towards completing you syllabus as first 5 AIMCATS can be used to get used to the environments. From the 6th Mock onwards you should start performing to your peak and keep on analysing your mistakes.

I've learnt just 1 thing about CAT and tell this to everybody. CAT is not about attempting all the questions. You can score a 100 with 47-48 questions provided yur accuracy is good. So, learn to leave questions judiciously. I'm sure you'll learn this in mocks once you start analysing.

ATB for the upcoming season. :)

EDIT: Regarding facing problem with Arun Sharma. Post your queries on Quant by Arun Sharma thread and someone would solve for sure 😃

Hello Seniors,
I am working in Infosys and will be completing 2 years in june. I attempted cat , got 97 %ile but couldn't convert NITIE ,SPJAIN and any of the new iims declared as of now. I am waitlisted in VGSOM(very less chances) and IIT Kanpur(mostly will convert). Now I am in a dilemma.
1. Should I take IIT kanpur? iknow it is good but I also feel I may get into some other good if I prepare for one more year.
2 I am seeing an onsite opportunity in my project in coming two months. If I take that, I will not be able to give CAT next year . Now not only it will make me miss one attempt but also will increase my experience in IT which may create problems in MBA placement.
3. If I convert IIT KGP how is it?

Converted both MDI and IIM I ..Confused which one to join..any help guys..:|

Needs suggestion guys....
NIRMA MBA FULL TIME...

Hi guys,

I am an engineering dropout. I was pursuing B.E IT from mumbai uni last year but had to leave college as i could not cope up with it.

I am thinking of applying to nmims for the bba course. I would really like to get feedback from you guys who are already doing or hv done BBA from nmims or know how it is.

The fees is about 1.5 lakh an annum , is it really worth it ? I mean i can do bms from any local college for less than 30k an annum.

Nmims bba fees is almost 5x the cost. So is it really good to spend that much.

Would also like to know abt the placements. How much is the average package offered after completing bba.

Just for info : I completed my 12th std from an international board (A levels) and i scored 74% in the science stream.

Thanks a lot for your time to go thru this. All inputs will be greatly appreciated.

MY academic profile
10th : 69
12th : 74.2
B tech : 68.2
working in own automobile business from april 2010, but wld be joining As a PO IN SBBJ .I am confident of getting good percentile.
my question is that suppose i get above 99 percntle, wld i be able to fetch call from good college, i m aiming only top 15 college, plz tell.

A percentile above 99 will def fetch u calls from top colleges..but after that also converting GDPI is a hell difficult task..u will be competing with the best candidates who have got similar or more percentiles than u...

NM has developed a very good reputation for itself as a college..Hence the high fees...i would suggest dont look at the fees..just gather info as to what and how much plcmnt u can expect after completing NM BBA vis-a-vis getting good plcmnt from other colleges...Go to these colleges..Discuss with the students over there and u'll get a more clearer picture..

Just have a look at the plcmnt figures of IIT KGP, Kanpur ...As a brand MBA from these colleges is very good...If ur hellbent on MBA i will suggest u to join...since if u do well in these colleges in all probability u'll be getting a high pkg job plus u'll have to start afresh in that org, ur prior IT exp won't be useful over there..I am not aware of the current plcmnt scenario in these colleges if its good, then do join....As a brand these are very good colleges.

Hi puys,

I am in big dilemma...
I get a job offer from Govt. sector after passing the
written exam...But i am in dilemma whether to go
there or not... Currently i am working in Godrej as a Trainee and i am sure that i will confirm after the trainee period in june and my salary would be around 22k..In Govt. job the
position is Jr. assistant and the salary would be
around 20k... is there any Negative effect in B-school interview if you are working in Govt. sector?

So what should i do?

Thanks a lot!

there is no negative impact for govt. job...but if it's paying you less...and eventually u r going to get into a good b-school...then why go for a lesser paying job ?
