I am in big dilemma... I get a job offer from Govt. sector after passing the written exam...But i am in dilemma whether to go there or not... Currently i am working in Godrej as a Trainee and i am sure that i will confirm after the trainee period in june and my salary would be around 22k..In Govt. job the position is Jr. assistant and the salary would be around 20k... is there any Negative effect in B-school interview if you are working in Govt. sector?
So what should i do?

Well,I would suggest you to go for the government job,mainly for 2 reasons 1)Since,that is a government job,I don't think there would be much work-pressure.you'll get enough time to prepare for the CAT/XAT. 2)Not many candidates from government sector goes for a higher education like MBA.So,you'll have a profile which would be different from rest of IT junta.This would help you during your shortlist and Gd/PI stage.

Dont worry, you have a decent profile and still sufficient time is left for the preperations. Just take all the mocks seriously and review them properly. Also concentrate on your accuracy, my personal experience says hardwork pays at the end of the day. All the best for your preperation.
hi puys, i see alot of people post up their dilemmas. i am facing one too, now. so anybody there to lend a helping voice will be highly appreciated. my profile: 10th 80% 12th 80% graduated in 2011 Bcom(hons) 57% fresher have decent number of extra curricular activities under my wings. i got multiple iim calls and also a few others but couldnt convert even one except NIT Trichy. Now the thing is, i have always dreamt getting an IIM or something top. so i have decided to forfeit the NIT seat and prepare again. i understand that i need to do something legit to explain in the PI and also that adds value to my profile. now my dilemma is what do i do whilst i prepare again?
i have found the following options to be logical: 1. join mcom. do well so that my bcom bad marks will somehow get covered. then do mba. so that means atleast 4-5years more till i complete the mba. 2. do some CS course or a certificate course while preparing again this year. so about 3years till i complete. i am not ready to work. so i am not thinking about it.
I got selected to Symbiosis Bangalore( SIBM B ) and IMT Nagpur.. Which one of these B schools should i go for... ? Am in interested in doing Finance .. Need some suggestions .. Thanks ..

You are absolutely right....i am more inclined towards for the Govt. job as you told that i will get more time and get alternative Saturday off and less work-pressure so i will get time for prep.
But i am little bit worried about the job profile...My post is jr. assistant so i don't know which type of they will give me...I am going in the Electrical board sector.....
I would like advice on choosing between new IIMs Rohtak, Ranchi, Raipur & Udaipur (in the order of my preference). I am more inclined towards IIM Rohtak one of the reasons being that i'm based in Delhi.
I also noticed that IIM Rohtak offers a PGPM while most others have a PGDM. Can anyone explain the difference between these...?

I will rather suggest to prepare well this year once again, score high and convert the calls you get this time from among the IIMs and/or other top B-Schools. Getting into M.Com might not be of high value addition.
You can do CS course but do check out before that it doesn't hinder your preparation else join some job which is not very hectic ( work ex advantage on form ) OR do some small certification(s) / small self projects to enhance the value of your profile. But none of these at the cost of focus on preparation as high score should be of prime importance. 😃

I have been denied bank loan for pursuing MBA, because i dont have permanent residence. my relatives have pooled up money to help me out and i myself invested all my savings inorder to pay for tution & hostel fees.I only have a bike left as my savings, which i had to purchase as i was a sales guy.
Now the problem is i may have to give up the bike too as i need to purchase a laptop.but once i pass out i may again require the bike for sales & marketing.
hence i am not able to decide how to buy a laptop.should i sell my bike or not Will a net book be enough.or can i purchase an akash tablet ?I have a PC at my home can i bring that to the hostel.

I think a netbook would do where u can work on MsOffice like PPTs , Excels and Word documents and comfortably search on internet ..
Secondly ask the college authorities if they can allow you to bring your desktop with you if your hostel rooms have enough space then its fine ..
Finally I think most of the colleges have computer labs opened till late night ask your seniors if you can use the labs ... Else-wise try goto campus with out a lappy as of now and then decide then and there if you need or u can manage without it 😃

Go through the placement reports of both the colleges and try gauge the kind of companies coming to both campuses and then ask respective college seniors which company gives which kind of profiles in finance i think this would do it for u

Also you can buy 2nd hand laptop.....There are million over the net!:)

what about working with an NGO? does that qualify as something substantial enough in profile addition?
the thing is i am very scared to be in the same position again next year because i believe that nothing can really prepare one for the CAT exam and it all depends on THAT day. i know that im not giving up till i get what i want but now for me its about getting what i want with the most amount of cushions to fall back on and to explain my time spent.
p.s. i have a very bad habit of always thinking of the worst case scenario maybe my pessimism is one of the causes of my under achievements 😞
