I work in a software MNC and a very famous brand. But I don't have interest in working in IT.I want to do MBA from the top B-schools like IIM-A/B/C ,XLRI,or FMS.My academics are as follows. 10th-90.33% 12th-97% B.Tech-7.46 But this time I gave CAT and got less than 60%ile.So is it practical that I think of these B-Schools or should I make another plans.IF possible then what should I do to make this a reality.
Scoring 60% once does nt mean tht u ll stop aiming. Look at ur flaws, places whr u lack and whr u can improve and prepare wisely. Also i wud suggest you to look for B Schools which r in d same league as IIM A/B/C etc abroad. Ur profile is very good. Ull definitely do good.

Hello everyone, There are two queries by keeping in mind career, skills & my job experience first is MBA in General Management and 2nd is MBA finance, both are in my interest area, I wanted to ask :
Q1. If I opt for MBA finance, will my today experience be considered in job market in future that is totally different from A/cs and finance or else Ive to start as a fresher again ?
Q2. If I go towards MBA General Management matched with my job skills then what is its scope and job prospects in India as most of the universities are not providing MBA General Management and till today there are very few who enrolled in the same.
I am in a dilemma nowadays. I regularly ponder over the question that am I really an MBA material? I am currently working in a software consultancy firm, gave CAT,did well ,prepared well for gd/pi and got selected in one of the IIMs(not ABC) , but now after being selected I am increasingly becoming unsure about my MBA. I will tell you why--: 1. I dont feel I have an X factor in me, a charismatic personality is what I lack, atleast that is what I have felt and observed. Even my communication skill is just okayish. 2. I have very average co curricular activity record, I am not the kind of person who will be enjoying activities like event organization. That may go against me in b school. 3. I am an introvert, I guess that is a complete no no for marketing field. 4. I am not very highly ambitious guy, peace of mind is what I look for, and money has always been secondary. I am kind of laid back and relaxed person. 5. I am not interested in finance, I am ok with numbers but I am damn sure I will not go for it. 6. I dont know how b school placements happen, but as much info I could collect I found its more on profile. And as I said I know I dont have a boastfull profile. My parents are willing to send me to iim, but given the fees and personality flaws that I see in me, I get apprehensions whether I would be able to justify an MBA degree and get a decent placement. If it would have been any other college except IIM (XL,FMS) I would have decided in an instant that I dont want to do the MBA.But then you dont convert an IIM call every other day. In addition to that I dont feel my job will lead me anywhere if I continue with it. Given my situation, should I decide to go for it and join the IIM or should just painfully drop the idea , I am on critical crossroads with lot of confusion, please do help me.
Hi puys I am a 2011 passout B.Tech graduate currently working for wipro technologies for the past six months.I got 91 percentile in cat 2011 and got selected for NIT-Trichy.At first I thought I could join this college since the ROI is very good. The avg package is also 7lpa which is good. But many of my friends and well wishers are advising me not to join this coll as it doesn't give me the exposure which a good B-school would give. How important is the ROI and is it advisable to join this college??????

My advise would be to not join NIT Trichy....as you can still give CAT another shot.....RoI is somewhat important, but what matters most is the brand equity, alumni network and past performance of the college....and in my opinion NIT Trichy is just about average....no offence !!...so decide wisely

I am a B.Tech Graduate currently working in IT services sector. Have around 1.5 years of experience as a Java Developer, currently working with IBM Sterling Commerce, dealing with supply chain management. I am thinking of pursuing higher education. I am confused whether to do MS from USA or MBA from India. If I think of doing MS in finance/engineering management/operations(within top 20 colleges)..would that be a better option compared to a MBA(top 10) from India. Also, what is the present job scenario in US for a desi MS guy. I want to know the possibility of a job there within the period of 3 months after graduation and if there is a student loan, how easy/difficult is it to repay the loan back(again, referring to the first part, do/can I get a job there easily after graduation). Any first hand experience would be certainly appreciated. Can anybody guide me so as I can decide what course of action would be the best for my future. Thanks

Dude...don't be so cynical...if you are so anti-MBA...then why did you give CAT and then you also went for GD/PI....there is no standard definition for MBA material !! You say you are not happy in ur job....u say money is secondary to you...you have opinions about every single thing out there, but oddly enough the one thing about which u shud hav an opinion,i.e., "what do you want from life(career-wise) ?"....u don't seem to have an answer to this question...............so you better decide what you want an act accordingly.....coz nobody can make that decision for you except urself !!
Hello everyone, I would like to know about the usual eligibility criteria for on campus/off campus placements after PGDM. As i have an aggregate of about 58% in UG at present(appearing for my last sem). How will it affect my placement after doing PGDM. If I perform well in PGDM will the UG marks still be a big prob? Thanks :)

U can change ur mindset and enjoy a hectic corporate life.5-6 years down the lane u can even think of pursuing PHD or fellowship at IIM.
Being laid back is no excuse.whichever job u are into, u will have get rid of being laidback.u have got potential.how are very intelligent and bright, just tweak your mindset a little.
HI...Look..frankly speaking it has been a trend to keep a minimum of 60% throughout...in most of the B-Schools..when it comes to placements...for you, there is hardly you can change right now as you have already stated you are @ 58%...two important things that you must borne in mind are: 1) Try to pull this 58 over that 60 mark. 2) Stop thinking about what the incoming companies will ask for during the placements as you dont have any choice as far as changing their criteria is concerned...what you can obviously change is your 'ATTITUDE'...study hard for a good college for PGDM and do your best at the time of the interviews...
All the Best!!!
Thnx for ur reply. Well, this is a big problem for me as these good colleges are giving profile based calls. Even if I get a percentile, the UG 58% again will be a problem for MBA entrance. I have got into ITM Navi Mumbai...looks like a decent clg...I am thinking of going for it this yr...as I will probably not get a chance to get into a better clg in future...so should I go for it??? what other options do I have??? If possible, how can I get into a good clg???

there are a few colleges such as Nirma , LBS which give importance to CAT percentile so if you think trying next year for these colleges is worth it , then u can try
IIM C and XLRI have also admitted students below 60 in UG in past

Your profile is good enough for any IIM :) The one year gap won't matter a lot.You could always work your ways out to handle this question if ever asked in any of the interviews. There's no winning strategy to crack CAT.Though I'm sure many of the coaching centers and other people would tell you there is.The strategy depends completely on the individual's capability and strong/weak points.Start working on your weak points first. This is the only strategy which works everywhere and in every situation :) Best of luck for CAT 2012!!
