If you're an innovative guy, probably doing MBA won't help you much in increasing your innovation :)
MBA would help you give a direction to your innovative ideas and make it work for you. You'll know how to use the numbers in your favour and how to play with them. You'll get to know the strategies you could apply to market your ideas.
Doing or not doing MBA depends completely on your expectation and your long term plans. If you think you could use your 2 years of MBA learning in running your business better,go for it.

Your profile is good enough for any IIM :)
The one year gap won't matter a lot.You could always work your ways out to handle this question if ever asked in any of the interviews.
There no wining strategy to crack CAT.Though I'm sure many of the coaching centers and other people would tell you there is.The strategy depends completely on the individual's capability and strong/weak points.Start working on your weak points first. This is the only strategy which works everywhere and in every situation :)
Best of luck for CAT 2012!!

should not hamper if u top CAT or other entrance exam....Every1 has -ves in their CV/resume...that does not stop them from chasing their dreams...Be optimistic, shed all -ve ides, prepare thoroughly and give ur best shot

A past -ve should not hamper ur future..
I am in a dilemma nowadays. I regularly ponder over the question that am I really an MBA material? I am currently working in a software consultancy firm, gave CAT,did well ,prepared well for gd/pi and got selected in one of the IIMs(not ABC) , but now after being selected I am increasingly becoming unsure about my MBA. I will tell you why--:
1. I dont feel I have an X factor in me, a charismatic personality is what I lack, atleast that is what I have felt and observed. Even my communication skill is just okayish.
2. I have very average co curricular activity record, I am not the kind of person who will be enjoying activities like event organization. That may go against me in b school.
3. I am an introvert, I guess that is a complete no no for marketing field.
4. I am not very highly ambitious guy, peace of mind is what I look for, and money has always been secondary. I am kind of laid back and relaxed person.
5. I am not interested in finance, I am ok with numbers but I am damn sure I will not go for it.
6. I dont know how b school placements happen, but as much info I could collect I found its more on profile. And as I said I know I dont have a boastfull profile.
My parents are willing to send me to iim, but given the fees and personality flaws that I see in me, I get apprehensions whether I would be able to justify an MBA degree and get a decent placement. If it would have been any other college except IIM (XL,FMS) I would have decided in an instant that I dont want to do the MBA.But then you dont convert an IIM call every other day. In addition to that I dont feel my job will lead me anywhere if I continue with it. Given my situation, should I decide to go for it and join the IIM or should just painfully drop the idea , I am on critical crossroads with lot of confusion, please do help me.

The panelists would have seen something in you..they are the 1s who screen hundreds of profiles...Dont worry about u being MBA material..Just join it spend 2 years, learn skills nd knowledge over there..after 2 years if u think ur software consultancy work was fine u can still join the same industry/even company.

Getting into IIM is a dream for all MBA aspirants..uve got the opportunity, utilise it...
iam an it profesonional working as DBA .I am not finding any time to study ,I want to quit the company and prepare for GMAT for 3 months and for me to complete the admission process It will take one year.First I thought I can continue in the job and prepare for the exam and honestly speaking I am not able to find any Time .Now my question is Do I need to take up the Job for sure again after taking up the exam to provide an explaination in the interview ,If such continuity should be then wat kind of jobs are available???I want to MBA in hr management .C an I get any related work ???????I like interacting with people any jobs will be available in the market so that at least the work I do will not be for namesake
My profile

I also have a thought to some certification like xlri entrepreneur ship management.

Can any one suggest me any solution how to engage myself in th period between me getting admission and the me getting score after leaving the job

i would seriously suggest u not to leave the job..IT company does provide 2 non-working days which u can utilise..besides if u want to crack CAT/GMAT u need to burn the midnight oil and gain it..Lots of people do it...There will be no time in the world, we need to find time...Be focussed and u will do it...

What if u take gap and prepare and still ur not able to the best college u want...then what all options will u have..in all likelihood u'll be left with nothing or some ordinary job.,.or u'll join some ordinary bschool...

Think on these lines and prepare religiously...

Hi Puys,
First of all, i want to thank you all for keeping this wonderful thread alive. Needed some advice, and the urgency will be clear as you read this:
I have been working in the VLSI domain for 2 years now after passing out from BITS. About 10 months back i felt the need to do an MBA (the motivation was primarily to get into a managerial role, and also to be able to work in the FMCG sector). As of now, my job is good, and so is the pay (more than 40K pm if you want me to be specific). Now I got an admit into XIMB. And I am confused:
1. should i got to XIMB this year and work upon upgrading my profile post mba?
2. continue working for 3 more years and go for executive mba from ISB or top 3-4 IIM's (again, the risk factor is high)
Depending on this, I have to decide whether I should resign or not (and if i have to resign, it has to be ASAP. So please help me, provide some advice..
Note: I am not trying to create any controversy through this post, just need some help from my fellow puys :-P!

go for Oracle on any day, it's a product based company and moreover a better brand name than CSC. It is always better to be in product based firm when compared to a service based firm(CSC). You will have a better work environment with small teams, flexible office timings and good opportunity to learn. Al d Best!!

You didnt tell why you wont be allowed to sit for placements, if its due to your correspondence course in UG , i dont think such criteria apply to all the companies , talk to your placement incharge and check which companies have such criteria if any

Placement or CTC depends a lot on what kind of companies arrive on the campus and secondly how you perform on a given day .. in an interview process

If you want to change your domain , XIMB can give you very good opportunities for the same , dont look at CTC wise its about a career , are you happy with your career path right now or does XIMB make it better

Secondly working for 5 years and then doing MBA is a good option but typically people stick to their previous domain after such high work ex , may be for a better position or a better ctc ..

Career path change is your main aim , XIMB it should be

IB is a specialized course and SIBM Bang gives you more options , Ask the seniors of SIIB if the college allows freedom in choosing specialization .

Also check the placement reports and companies names , ask the seniors regarding profiles being offered , not necessarily CTC because they wont be astronomical but profiles which will help u make a better decision

Yes you should get decent calls and even some of the IIMs

So work hard and concentrate on your cat percentile right now and worry about this in January 2013 post cat results atb ..

Hi puys:
In need of some serious advice.I am an Indian IT male working as an ABAP developer in Bangi.I took CAT this year(my 3rd attempt) and got a lowly 94.66%.Bagged some decent calls but dinged by all. Right now i am in a dilemma. My profile is also not mirror cracking.
10th 2001 80%
12th 2003 64%
B.Tech 2009 78%.
I have a 2 years gap after my class 12 which is a big hole in my career.I know this profile wont fetch me an IIM call even if i get a 99+.I also know that top colleges like XL,NITIE,MDI give only weight-age to CAT/XAT score on short listing candidates. But what after that.I am really low on motivation to go for the grind and ace CAT with a 99+ score.I dont want to harbor false hopes. As you all know serious CAT prep takes a lot of effort and need sacrifices from the work as well as personal front. If i pull the shutters down on the MBA hope, i can concentrate on my technical work and make a career out there.

But in my heart hearts i want to do an MBA from a premier B school and make it big in life. Will it be worth again to take the gamble and chase the erratic cat or should i make peace with my life.am already 26 and time is flying, i need to catch up.
hope i ve made my position clear.puys please advice.multiple opinions are more than welcome.

Distressed soul!!!!
