Hi Guys!!
Nice to see a forum where ppl help others to get out of the confusion or tough time in their life.
I am also going through similar kind of a situation. Hope you guys will direct me to the right direction.
I have done B.Tech in ECE and passed in 2009. I got placed in IT giant from campus & I was very happy. I am working in IT for last 2.4 yrs now. I thought I would be working as software developer but I am stuck in a support profile. Now even if I try to learn programming myself at home, I find it difficult to cope with the changing technologies. I do not like my job now. I am working just because I am earning now and my family will never allow me to leave the organization without any other offer. Also, I am very straight forward kind of person and find it difficult to be diplomatic in the corporate world in which m working.
I want to work in a government sector now. Please guide me the career path I can choose now. And is it wise to leave IT field after gaining 2.5 yr of experience as it will become zero if I change my field now. I am very stressed out and keep on thinking about this. Please guide me friends.
Regards,
AKB

Many PSU banks and companies advertise for IT specialists and officers. Generally they look for 2-3 years of experience. You can try those. Keep a track of these on Rozgar Samachar
Otherwise you can look at Bank PO exam thru IBPS. The flipside is you will have to start as a fresher as everyone starts as a fresher irrespective of their previous experience.
Most of the top b-schools have had IOCL and ONGC as recruiters this year ..
I think in NITs were visited by coal India limited
IT work ex yes can help you get BA profiles post MBA but is only relevant for IT companies ,for rest of the domains you start as a fresher

Abhimukh sir,
Thanks for the reply......can I shift to consultant role in consultancy firms after working as BA in an IT company???
I am a fresh Engineering graduate-2012.
My profile-
B.E -8.12 CGPA
12th 71%
10th 79.2%
Extra curricular: Secretary of student committee in college, Freelanced as a documents translator with an international NGO, worked with an event management company on part time basis, associated with one more NGO .
I appeared for CAT'11 and screwed up badly. missed IIFT, SIBM-P by few marks. Didn't appear for any other exam. Currently don't have any job in my hands and I don't even want to work in IT that's why won't go for off-campus. Plan to take a year drop and prepare again even started with my prep but recently since the colleges are giving out the final lists, strange results are seen everywhere. One of my seniors, with a similar profile as mine, took a year drop scored 98.5%ile in CAT, 99.9%ile in XAT, Still couldn't get a single convert! Not even the new IIMs and XIMB.
Got the call from new IIMs XIMB, XLRI but couldn't convert.
So this is troubling me whether his "Drop" is becoming an hindrance or what. I am confused right now whether to drop the 'drop' and go on for job hunt in the pool of monotonous IT world.
Please experienced ones help me.
P.S. While drop, I plan to work with some NGO on full time basis in my hometown. Will that be considered as work ex or will turn out to be a negative factor during interviews?
In my opinion you can go with job and even job in NGO is treated as good one in Bschools. As lot of B-school give spl emphasis on working with NGO after MBA so working with NGO is added advantage to you. One more think till nxt year admn you have lesser than 1 yr work ex which is not much relevant in terms of Work-ex so u can go with ur heart and can join NGO.
and secondly, there are lot of people in b schools who dropped 1 year for preparation and converted decent calls, the main thing is how you justify on that particular day and how well you justify your point.

Hi,
I've been working with Deloitte for the past 10 months. I appeared for CAT 2011 and got decent calls including K,I, FMS, New IIMs. Unfortunately I have been waitlisted by K and I and the chances dont look bright .
In case I don't make it, I will try again for CAT 2012 surely . My problem is that the work I am doing is monotonous and is not offering me any definite value adding skill sets. (stuck in a long term project) However whether a shift in job is a good idea or not considering that I eventually want to do an MBA and Deloitte is a good company to work with, is bothering me . If I try in the next season I would also want to earn a CFA Cert to enhance my profile. In such a case, what can be the best choices to make ?

What kind of profile do you have? Also, what's your educational background.
I would suggest you continue with Deloitte as it is a good brand. About CFA, if you intend to take L1 next June, it will hamper your CAT preps. I would suggest you take it this Nov-Dec itself if possible.

Hi, my profile is that of a risk consultant. I did my btech in ICT from dhirubhai ambani institute..yes you are right CFA this dec is the right thing.
But don't you think a job where you are not actually learning anything will hamper things going forward?
Hi guys...

wat would be more beneficial... or Should i go for both...
doing MBA would give me wat type of profiles... ??

You won't be able to do justice to both and if you attempt both, you may fail in both.
In case you are interested in MBA and CFA, I would suggest that you take the CAT first and take 2 levels of CFA during your MBA. Being a CA already enhances your profile for top schools. So focus on CAT for now.

I am sure you are learning something even if you think you are not. If you want to do MBA ultimately, then stick around in Deloitte for a year even if your work is not great. Deloitte is a very good brand and adds value to ur profile.

Thanks a lot. I guess I am getting clearer with all the confusions.
It's high time already and now I better stop worrying about all this and get myself into the prep completely!
Thanks again!

The things is it involves risk.... CFA can act as a back up....coz if i don't crack CAT... CFA can bail me out.... i m confused....
i have left my job already.... so i have time to study both....
so is it worth it to go for both ?
Hi Puys :nono:
I'm at the end 2nd year of engineering (Electrical - Bhagalpur College Of Engineering,Bhagalpur,Bihar Govt.)My profile--
I'm from a college where there is no provision of campus placement(No company visits this college
).
So students here are left with going for PSUs or Gate.Since I'm no exception to this trend,If I've to get a job,I'll have to get a Public Sector Unit in any case vua GATE). But I wanna be a manager and so I'm insane about getting into IIM(top 6)
A:
PLEASE HELP ME SUCH A DILEMMA
Definitely aim for a job. Its always better to get a few years of work ex before you try for CAT. You have decent acads, hence you can easily get calls from IIMs later on.
All the best.
