1. Yes, they do select people who are freshers but from core engineering branches for role of BA.

2. Yes, one can certainly move from role of BA to Domain Consultant in Operations. 😃

3. Depends on whether the companies named by you visit the college or not. Case might not be the same for all tier 2 colleges. It is dependent on what relation college has with these companies.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply.....How can I get into the cos which I have mentioned above if those cos don't visit my coll? Apart from gaining knowledge through the course are there any extra certifications or courses to be done in order to get placed in such cos???

I am working in Manufacturing firm since june-2011 in Ahmedabad...I have signed Bond for 2 years,as per the rule after 1 year of trainee period the salary will be increased.so my salary will be increase up to 2.5 after June but they are planning to transfer me to other branches and i think if they transfer me to metro cities than it would be hard to save money from my salary..Now i got Govt.job which will give me same package that i will get after june but the joining details is not finalized yet.the joining details would be in August-September probably.... they will give me posting in Gujarat and there are better chances to move to my hometown after 6-8 months...

IN current job i am not satisfied with my profile as i am doing order booking while when they tool my interview they told me that they will give me accounting profile..

So,what should i do?
If i leave current job than i have to break bond and will not get releaving letter...i have all the salary slip and offer letter. is this 2 things ok or B-schools or other company will ask for releaving letter?

Buddy incase you are breaking the bond and are absconding .. Chances are that you will not be able to show it as a work ex in future .. Secondly incase of future employment... if feedback about your work is asked by your future company (talking about b-school placement) from your prev employers again they will not get a positive picture about you

So try and negotiate with your employers regarding the amount , so that you can get a work ex certificate and you can pay a limited amount ..

The other way can be to not show it as a work ex and only show the new govt job as work ex in future but that would result in a gap of 1 year ..

I will try to negotiate with HR but they will ask me to pay the bond amount which is 5 months current salary i get in training period...

If i show the salary slips or the appointment letter than it will not suffice?

Buddy for admission it may suffice but once you get placed , these documents are scanned a lot and also feedback is taken from prev employers , but again depends on the firm .. i am sharing my personal experience where i have been asked to give professional references from prev employers specially managers i worked with and relieving letter , along with salary slips ..

Hey!
Here's my profile:
10th- 95%-CBSE
12th-89.80%-CBSE
Graduation-B.Com(H)-82.7%
Also, I completed my CA in Jan,2012.
I have planned to write CAT,2012. But I'm very apprehensive. Didn't take up any job after clearing CA. So presently I'm only preparing for CAT and doing nothing else. Would this gap make a difference during the admissions?
Is it advisable to take up some additional courses or may be even a job at small scale(like joining some CA) alongside?
Please help!!

Hi all,

I am done with my graduation. (April 2011)
I wrote cat 2011 and ended up with big time dismal results.
I am a commerce graduate with no work experience "TILL NOW" .......but from 2-3 months i am trying my hand in our family's business as i dont want to get myself into job as of now. Not getting into a job is just an excuse from my side as i need to study a lot this time. By the time i enter next year i would be having a gap of 2 years. I have queried about this issue on the same platform and one of our fellow mates replied that in my case ,i wont be treated as a person with gaps after graduation provided my dad's firm is registered.

Its a small iron & steels registered firm consisting of 9-12 workers.

Am i in big time trouble towards my dream of getting admission in top B-schools ???

My academics:
10th cbse- 85%
12th- 92.2 %
Degree- 81%

Ex curriculars - Playing guitar,Carroms.

Extra Qualification - M.Com (distance Education) pursuin 1st semister.

Am i going good or am i in big time trouble for not having work-ex . I dont believe in placements, just have a dream of studying in top bschool which would automatically accelerate my career. So iam just preparing for now and all my focus on CAT 2012.Correct me if iam going wrong presently towards another attempt of cat 2012.

Please suggest me some more to add to my kind of profile.

Thanks

Getting a Full time job is a good idea , but 1 year gap is not such a big issue for admissions , the only thing could be to have a good back up 😃 , incase you dont convert a college you want :)

All the best

hello! everyone

i have completed my b.tech from a reputed college of uttar pradesh technical university, but due to something or the other in my past college life (which i am not proud of) i had to repeat one year of my college studies.

consequently, i was a bit depressed but having this thought of not loosing any hopes i tried improving but only managed to get an aggregate of 59% in my graduation. As a result i had not been able to get any job in my domain but what i have got in my hand now is a job of assistant marketing manager in a startup IT company which is letting me into a dilemma regarding my carrier

With this prevailing circumstantial position i have these following questions in my mind :
1.should i opt for this job or do some course that can increase my chances of getting a job in my domain.
2.if i take this job will its experience be counted during b-schools admission
process(as it is not of my domain and the is with a very small start up company)
3. how to pursue mba preparation while continuing the job as the work timings will be leaving me with very little time to continue rigorous preparation

Working in a startup could be of help for your profile for a B school as it would distinguish you from usual IT work so you can take this job.
Any full time paid job is considered in the work-ex part of B-school.Every job requires hard work as earning money is quite difficult but you have to manage your studies with it you can put in more efforts on weekends. So plan accordingly.ATB for all your future endeavors.:)

Boss working in a start-up is fantastic. You'l get tremendous exposure and you'l learn a lot.
Besides, you can sell the fact that you were an assistant marketing manager as relevant work ex in your B school interviews. You'l be able to justify the MBA perfectly too, and will have an advantage at the time of recruitments for marketing firms. So dont let this opportunity slip away. Grab it. Good Luck

You mentioned IIMs ... there they give preference to candidates with work experience over those without so unless u have more than 99 or 98 % ile u wont even get an interview call .. and even if u do it wil be very tough for u to convert ... Other A class B schools like FMS Delhi and XLRI Jamshedpur etc have the same criteria .... so if u r very confident of a great score then only go for the drop and prepare properly and give CAT .. or else doing a job will be better .... Doing MBA in even B class schools like NMIMS etc doesnt guarantee u a placement these days so be cautious of ur choices and make it a very important point that watever insitute u join .. first have a look at the companies that visit that college for Campus placement and if that list includes 2 or 3 companies of ur wishlist cos at the end of the day its all waste if u arent placed

please puys---i need maximum reply to this most imp q....of my life

i am bphrm grad..hv 3 yrs work exp...ctc 3.3L....had left job last yr...had given..mba exams dis season...dnt get converted nywere...at homw...

Any reason why you rejected your 2 on campus offers?

Anyways, having work ex is always useful, but in your case I feel you will be better off by not joining this company, unless you have no other alternative. If you want to get into a decent Bschool, start preparing well from now itself.

And there are many people who prepare for CAT simultaneously while working, so that is not much of a problem. If you can get some other job, go for it, else give your best shot in CAT this year. All the best.

See the problem is that over the past 2 years, most top B schools are confused either as to what they want in a student or how they should select(which test). I think this is the time of great uncertainty, and I see it continuing for a while. So I feel this is the best time(actually the best time has passed) to get through a top B school, else it may be too late cause you may suddenly be bowled over by some random criteria change, specially if your acads/profile isn't spectacular.

Work ex is very helpful, but you will probably have to pay your bond amount, else they may withold your work ex certificate. If you haven't started prep at all yet, and if you are serious about CAT 2012, I'd suggest you dont join your job.
But if you have done a basic concept study in the final year of your graduation and fared decently at CAT 2011, then you can join the job and still manage the CAT prep. So based on your situation, take a call. But keep cracking the tests this year itself as your top priority
