My colleague at my previous organization did BA in English from St. Stephens and the MBA from MDI.

Yes arts students are lower in number in premier business schools. Reasons are:
1. Majority of intelligent students choose science/enginnering after 10+2. These are the same students who ace the CAT.
2. CAT has a focus on quants which arts students fear. It is totally psychological because the quant is of 10th grade level.

Most business schools do not discriminate against arts students during admission. If the candidate is promising, they would be more than happy to admit that student as it would add to the diversity of the batch.

after a year preparation is it possible to clear quant part too ? any chance to get into iim's?

As I said, the 'maths' part is secondary school level. It is more of a reasoning test and any fear/difficulty is psychological. 1 year is more than enough.

hello pals,

i have some query, right now i m preparing for cat and running business with my father. i got placed from collage but i quitted. My concern is my academic is not good and i have 3 years of gap after 12th.

My academic -
10th - 56%
12th - 63%
B.Tech - 7.47cgpa

I am 2010 pass out. can i get into to top 15th colleges?
do reply its urgent...

@[474580:rajboy21] If you have a good reason to justify your gap of 3 years after 12th I don't think you'll face any problems on that front in getting into one of the top B-schools. Yes, some top ones maybe out of league for you because of your past academics, but then there are others which have more weightage on CAT score, like IIFT, MDI, NITIE etc.

Also you passed out in 2010, and since then you've been managing business with your father? I assume you plan to show that as work exp, so then you'll have to produce work-exp certificate and pay slips to show you were a paid employee there (shouldn't be tough I guess! ). Otherwise it may be a problem because of 2 big gaps of 3 and 2 years!!
HI Everyone !!!
I know that there are a lot of threads that have already been posted on thie topic. However, i have my own dilemma regarding the same. The situation is that
I have completed my engineering from average college on MAY 2012 ,and got placed in CMS INFO. bt dint join for CAT2012 since its only 4-5 months from now...and bond was for 1year otherwise penalty of 2 lakhs !!!
my questions is will dis 6-7 months till GD/Pi will be counted as drop year ?
i gave CAT last year but reached till only 91%ile and n got SCMHRD call (FROM SNAP) , if i score gud this time can i get into top 15 MBA college..my acads are 10th- 67.8 % ,12th- 56.2, B.E- 66.7% and i have good sports achievements like national in cricket if it will help me in GDPI ...
HI,

I am 23 years old and i'm planning on doing an MBA program but i just don't know whether it would help me in any way or not. I have done-

UG- Journalism and mass communication
PG- M.A(Electronic Media)
work exp- i have interned at quite a lot of places, Indian Express, an event management firm, Coca cola- the Fanstation, Ogilvy & Mather.
I have also worked as an Assistant Director on few television shows.

You can say i'm more of a creative person.

Now, my dilemma is whether doing an MBA would help me in any way or not. are there any mba programs which can still keep me connected to the creative job or anything mildly related to it or at the very least mass communication. and if not, then what should i do for a career change?

Dilemma, dilemma dilemma.

And, also wanted to know, whether a person like me with no connection to maths after 12 standard can make it to a good institute with a 4 months preparation time? (i really want to give CAT'12 obviously with an aim to clear but everyone around me is telling me its impossible to clear it in 4 months, so want to know the actual truth).

Regards

Buddy

As it has been mentioned earlier as well, few months of gap after graduation is not a negative when it comes to conversion. There are lot many people who have done it in past with similar gaps.

What is more important is overall GDPI preparation, ow to defend low acads and scoring well in exams to fetch the call. 😃 So, dont worry about gap and give your best shot.. then you can prepare for GDPI!

Gap shall not be any issue!

All the best!
Cheers!

@[592051:kanikaarora25] You have a perfect profile to work in Media industry in more creative roles post your MBA. Cracking CAT in 4 months is very much possible, just that you need to dedicate lot of time towards it. Why don't you think about GMAT? I am 100% sure that you can score well in GMAT by preparing for 4 months. Also by GMAT your options for global MBA open. Where do you want to work post your MBA is the big question which will help you decide what you should do right now.

Please let me know if you require any further advice.

@[153753:ajaygovindg]...thanks for ur advice!!

@[316381:visionIIM-ACL] thanks a lot !!!seriously !!!

bt wat i want to ask is , is it possible to concert iim calls with such acads...

@[153753:ajaygovindg]

I think it will be best for me to give CAT 2012 without leaving the company. Even though the chances of making it through the written test will be less, but it can then be a prep step for CAT 2013 and also give me around 2 years of exp for CAT 2013.

By the way, if a 2yr exp guy, leaves the job, prepares for CAT, fails to get admission, will he get an opportunity in the IT sector to rejoin some company. Is it too big a risk to leave job for CAT even after 2 yrs of Exp ?

Thanks!

I second you buddy!

There is no point in quitting the job and preparing. In my opinion, it is better to prepare along with job! Work ex does become handy at later stages as well as at during placements at B-School!

Cheers!

Don't Think somuch about gap and as Our dear friend VisionIIM has told it will not matter that much but the main thing is that how much u scorein CAT is what matters so just concentrate on your preperation and come out with flying colours and best of luck to you

CL is better option to go for in Delhi :)

Time for preparation varies from person to person .... on your concentration level as well as on your status of preparation ... Also, depends on whether you like studying in stretch or for short intervals!

People have cracked CAT with even just 1-2 hours per day and couldnt even crack it with 10-12 hours per day. Solely depends on an individual. 😃 Only what we can suggest is that do ample practice of all the topics , dont skip the topics at which you are weak currently, work on them so that atleast you can solve their sitters. 😃

Cheers!

No except in colleges like S.P.Jain where overall profile is considered.

Rest, generally either only exam score or combination of exam score, acads and/or work ex is considered for rolling out calls for GDPI. :)

All the best!
