I wish it was like this....But in reality no.....
Also IIMs are not the only hope , there are other good business schools where a average student can strive in career....
So no iims dosent means ..discouragement and dissapointment...
@[557016:shashankg13] thats so true.
Hi
I'm Software Engineer with 10yrs of experience. I have always been on Technical side and have been leading it. I'm a graduate with BSc degree. I would like pursue MBA now. I would prefer to go outside India but my 15yrs of education would not allow me to apply outside.
The options I have been thinking are
1. Take up PGSEM or EPGP from IIMB and apply after I get the degree. But I'm not sure if this will add up to 1 yr of education as its a diploma course.
2. Take MBA in India and not worry about studying outside
It would be great if you can help me in giving suggestions as I'm confused over here.
Thanks,
PG

Hey need little bit help. I am engg graduate in Electrical discipline with 75.02% nd 80% in 10th, 70% in 12th (Both Frm CBSE) placed in an IT company (TCS). But the problem is that the company's joining is in the month of Dec, tht means i m free for nearly 5 months. nd also i want to start my career from some Finance comp (like Goldman, JPMorgan, nomura etc etc) instead of IT.
So my quest from u guys is whether i shld prepare for CFA L1 Dec 2012 or shld give an another attempt for cat 12 (got 85%ile in CAT 11). Would 4-5 months of preparation is enough for the either CAT/CFA?
Want max utilization of this 5 months time
@[589954:kirtivardhan] IIMs ABC not likely. Other IIMs you have a good chance. Focus and plan perfectly on scoring good!!!

Hi. 4/5 months of preparation is enough for either of CAT/CFA. I would personally suggest you to prepare for CAT. Since you want to make your career in Finance, IT Work ex won't help much. So it's better to get into B-School as a fresher. Not that people with IT Work-Ex can't make their career in Finance.
After you get into B-School, you can give a shot to CFA Level-1. All the best.
Bro i agree with u. But i have a doubt that can i get a job in finance after clearing CFA L1 (as many of my IIT/NIT frnds got recruited by fin. companies without clearing CFA L1).

Thanks..ATB
Yes, why not. You can def get a job in Finance irrespective of whether you clear CFA L1 or not. And chances get increased if you don't have heavy IT work-ex.
All the best.. !!

t.2010-11
i am a b.E. 2010 passout. after then i took a drop for preparation of entrance xams, but did BAD.
2011-12
in sept. 2011, i started a cafe with my friend in my hometown.and was simultaneously preparing for cats (and dogs) 2011, but did WORSE.
now, can i get top 10-15 college?? bcoz my acads are 10-84,12-77,grad.-67 and then a year drop.
nd even i have a doubt, that whether they consider it(owning a cafe) as an experience or not.
and if they.. what docs i have to show them....(it is a small business...and no pay slips)....
plzzz replyyy...
@[545506:05learner]: First of all try and get a good percentile in CATs and XATs...you'll need a very good pcile for getting into top 10 colleges...your acads would certainly bcome a hindrance 4 some colleges ( IIM K and IIM B will certainly shut you out irrespective your score of as they have been doing to many )...About your work-ex thing those guys will grill you in the interview to make sure you genuinely had a business...so be thoroughly prepared to answer on any aspect of your business..If they are saisfied then I dont see any problem...hope this helps..:)

and can u please help me in shortlisting the good colleges which dont much count experience and give value to entrance xams marks...
i heard tht tiss , mdi, and fms are in thoz colleges...
@[545506:05learner]Yeah...you could also add IIFT to the list...i guess they give just 5% weightage to work-ex and all...rest all on xam score and GD/PI/essay....and if want to try for IIMs then considering your acads u'll need a high and balanced CAT pcile...nd then a very good GD/PI round....

now i can focus on the bsiness as well as on the study...

Is there a point in doing an MBA after 10 years of experience in industry. Particularly when you are already stepped into lowest rung of Senior Management?
