You need to have 50% in graduation to appear for CAT. If 5.3 CPI is equivalent to 53% according to the rules of your university, then you can def appear. All the best.. !!

Check this for further details : http://www.catiim.in/cat_eligibility.html

@[370697:avinashkrjha] hey avinash, thanx for replying. no 5.3 is nt equivalent to 50%. it is equivalent to 47%. i do not want to do MBA. all i want is just to appear in CAT. is it possible?

I don't think you can appear in the exam ethically. Rest is upto you. You can give a try by filling the forms. All the Best.. !!

@[370697:avinashkrjha] thanx for the information. it was very kind of you.

@[370697:avinashkrjha] I am actually interested in a fellow programme, am not doing an mba for the sake of doing a course, but cause i want to get into academics..... but am not sure if i can withstand the rigours of a four year course at a stretch.. so I thought of doing a pg first and work for some days before actually going in for a doctoral or fellow programme. There is also the question of acceptability for an executive programme.. Is it accepted as an equivalent to an mba during the selection process for a fellow programme...

1. There is nothing like you cannot withstand the rigours of a four year course. You just need to give your best and rest everything will fall in place.

2. The eligibility for the fellow programme depends on college to college. I would suggest you to check the criteria of various colleges offering FPM on their websites.

3. If at all you are interested to get into academics, you can straightaway go for this course without any work-ex. Though you also have an option of working for few years first and then go for it. All the best.. !!

Hey!! I need help, a suggestion. Something I cant decide.. rather dont know what to do. Exactly, in a dilemma and I think I will get answers to my queries here.

I have completed my B.Tech this year. I got an on-campus placement but they have delayed our joining till May, 2013. Since I cant wait till then and also, I hv no other job in hand.

I scored 80% in CAT 2012 and Have a chance of pursuing MBA in Power Management from National Power Training institute, Faridabad. ( I have studied electrical and Electronics Engineering during B.Tech) .
So, Should I go for it...?? Will it be worth investing Two years and few lakh? Or Should I look Up for job which , being a fresher, will be difficult?

Buddy

You being a fresher, have good amount of time in your hand.

Will suggest you to prepare for CAT this season and take another shot at top B-Schools. Since there is no load of job as well, you can prepare with full throttle and give a shot this time.

All the best!
Hello guys, I'm 2011 BE pass-out with first class(60%) on Degree and 53% aggregate...
X: 84% , XII 79% ... Scored 90% in CAT 2010 and secured seat in IIM Ranchi, but was not confident of clearing my BE and hence withdrew my admission from there... In CAT 2011 I scored 47%, so there was no chance anywhere... Now screwup is, I have been sitting idle for a year now, did not get job... If I plan to give CAT 2012 then it'll be almost 2 years of GAP after my graduation and I'm not sure how to justify that during GD/PI even if I secure good % in this CAT ... I'm looking out for Job too to show some workex but its really difficult for Mech engg here to get descent job... What should I do now ? I have not started preparation for CAT 2012 yet ...

I have posted this in Sitting idle... need advice thread, but probability of getting reply here is more... Sorry for repost !

I suggest you not to think anything about the 2 year gap as of now. Your first objective should be to score a high %ile in CAT'12. So focus on the preparations for that. In the meanwhile, if you are able to get a job by easy means, then join it. But it's good that you have so much of time right now and try to utilise it to the maximum. I am sure that you will make it big. After you get the calls from top b-schools, you can think of proper reasons to justify your 2 year gap. All the best buddy.. !!

Do not think about the past. Optimize your energies for CAT 2012 and aim for a very good score. Select colleges falling in different categories (top 10, next 30 etc) and apply judiciously. After CAT, attend training classes for PI's and GD's. Faculty will be able to help you in handling different situations.

Once you gain admission into an MBA program, you can make up for the BE performance. Keep up a positive attitude and you will definitely do well. ATB

@[370697:avinashkrjha] ; @[580208:Sivshanth] : So preparing for CAT2012 seems best option now, thanks 😃 ... Which books should I refer? I have Arun Sharma... Also is it feasible for me to join mock test series now since it'll take a while to brush up basics, it'll be wastage of money if I give mocks without preparation right ?

Since you are free join a crash course at a reputed institute and also take the mock tests. It will be better than self-study since you will have a yard stick for comparison and also gain insights from trained faculty.
