Hi friends,
I am an ardent MBA aspirant for the last three years.I quit my job(TCS) in Sep end to prepare for CAT and "All those exams"......But after CAT life seems to have come to a Halt...I am tired of sitting idle and doing nothing...I have a decent experience of 2 yrs in TCS.....But still am not getting any job opportunities as of now...(Recession Blues!)
...
M not sure how this season will turn out for me...Its my grand Finale in any case..So I want to get a job and get going...Else wat would I tell those Guys(Those notorious B school Interviewers)...And wat would I do with my life if I don get through...
Please PM me if you have any job openings in your companies/institutions/Watever...
I am located in Bangalore as of now...But am open to relocating..Do let me know and PM me if you find anything suitable for me...I will send my resume to you so that you can refer it...Alternate suggestions are welcome...
Thanks a ton...

hi,
if you are sure that you want to pursue an MBA after 2-3 years of job experience then I'd suggest you to go with the Asian paints job offer.
reasons are obvious, the difference in profile from the usual lot of the IIM (Indian IT Male).
that's a big difference as far as i have seen.
rest is up to you. :)
best of luck.
thanx for ur valuable reply
i dont know actually after how much exp i wll start doing an MBA, coz it maimly depends on the score i get in CAT, as i am only targeting top 20 b-schools.
i wll join as soon as i get a good score and i am able to convert the call.
how much yrs of work ex is considered as solid work ex, and does doing a job in asian paints(operations) for say 3 yrs hamper my chances in going in finance field in MBA placements??

If you are working full time and if you are getting a payslip then it is a full time job. While business schools will appreciate it, you will have to provide a strong reason why you chose the social sector over corporate sector and why you are applying to a business school so soon if you actually wanted to work for the social sector. They will also tell you that why not do a MSW instead of an MBA as that would be more relevant to you. You should be prepared with the answers to such questions.

Hi Puyz,
I need some guidance from seniors and puyz who've been through almost similar situation.
I am working as Software Engineer right now. But I want to gain experience on Equity Markets side. Before entering B Scholl, I'd like to have experience before hand. I'll be going for MBA Finance. I am not in a mad rush, as of now, for MBA. I've also cleared NCFM Derivative Market (Dealers) module. I know it may not be that helpful, but how can I make this move? My interest lies in getting experience in the Investment Industry / Equity Markets for a beginning. I know some Brokerage Houses are even canning some of their staff members, but I tend to belive that even in this situation there is a chance that I can step in.
I'd be deeply grateful to receive a rational solution from you puyz.

B.E - 68%.
I have given CAT previously scored 98.90% and hoping a good result this year(figer crossed) extraciriccular is also not tht good . I want to ask is my poor academics will be a HURDLE in my admission to IIM and top 10 MBA college. Can I get a call frm IIM if I score decent in CAT.Please help.

People with poor academic records have also made to decent B-Schools in past, so not being able to do MBA just because of that is not an acceptable statement. However, few B-Schools which pay great importance to academic record might not give you the opportunity to get their calls or convert them.
Without knowing the academic record, its tough to comment on that end. However, if one makes to top 10-15 B-Schools where most of the people will have good academic and extra currics record , a person with slightly poor academic record will face difficulties in terms of shortlists during initial slots of placement week. This is understood as well because if company will have a better option to take, they would surely go for that. Having said this, all top B-Schools have 100% placement, so not getting a job is not an issue here.
I want to ask is my poor academics will be a HURDLE in my admission to IIM and top 10 MBA college. Can I get a call frm IIM if I score decent in CAT.Please help.

You will face sight difficulty only for those B-Schools which pay huge importance to academic record and extra currics for giving out calls and/or converting them. Otherwise, i dont find making into a top b school an difficulty barring few B-Schools.

1. This is entirely wrong that B-Schools only allow fresh engineers to convert the calls and not non engineer freshers. With changing criteria and importance being given to diversity in batch, non engineer freshers also do hold a strong chance to make it to top b schools.
2. In my opinion, one can start preparation at a steady pace in the penultimate year of graduation. So, you can start from 2nd year in my opinion. As of now, stay in touch with reading diverse english articles and work on your vocabulary and grammar. Rest, you can start off easily from next year.
All the best.
This query might sound a little strange...
But here it goes..now i m a fresher this year and about to complete my m.sc degree in chemistry.Hoping to join a good college this year itself but prepared for the worst. So if i do not finally convert any call(assuming i get any) then i will have to go for a job.Now the core jobs which i am being offered require me to sign a two year bond with the companies(which i am not intrested in).I am also getting a job in the software firms(due to my strong programming background and also partly due to the reputation of the college). Here is the dilemma...
1)will my joining a software firm hamper my chances for admissions next year(particularly as i hold a m.sc degree in chemistry, but will work in software firm)???
2)could this be an advantage as i am showing a bit of diversity in my academics(although i know this is just my optimism)???
3)is taking a year or two off (for job)in the above circumstances really advisable??
PS-i could get 98 above this year...
Academics:
10th-85%
12th-82%
post-undergraduation-78%
thnx in advance

Not really

Will depend on how you present it. If you can justify your decision of joining a software firm and not taking up a core job then it won't matter. Many Biomedical engineers are coding at Infy and some of them get into IIMs!!
3)is taking a year or two off (for job)in the above circumstances really advisable??
If you get somewhere good, nothing like it. However a couple of years workex helps getting a mature perspective in the class discussion and helps you in getting more out of the program. (PS I was a fresher)
