@Sivshanth- thanku sir, from now will work hard on analysing my mocks and revising my weak areas.
Hi , I have a question related to the number of yrs of employment to be put in the CAT Voucher.
I had earlier worked in Infosys for abt a year and left (breaking the bond thus getting no relieving letter). So Now can I show that one year as experience.
Can I use the pay slips as proof later on?
Can someone comment on Delhi School of Economics??
Does it offer MBA pgm???

I think they dont provide MBAs rather specialized courses in Finance , Economics , HR ..
But the courses are really good and valued in the industry

Most management schools require a relieving letter as proof of your work experience.
@snehans said: @avinashkrjha bro...so we can mention our family-business work-ex at least at the time of filling up forms for diff institutes, right? It would not create any problem, if this work-ex is not taken into account at the time of making interview calls...i hope!
Ya, in my view, it should not be any problem mentioning about the family business work-ex. If at all they don't consider it, the work-ex gets cancelled.

luk.. its something which can be different with different instituites... bcz family-business work-ex you are talking about can be mostly related to entrepreneurship... so its better to call up the respective institute and ask about the same... atleast after doing this you won't be in any state of confusion....
hope it helps... ATB
@snehans said: @pram85 @avinashkrjha....i have filled CAT's form today..did not mention my family work-ex thing...thot that myt backfire...another question..I have heard there is a slab for marking on work-ex..like 0-11 mnths, 12-23 mnths...smthing of that sort...if that is really the case, then 14 or 19 hardly sound different...correct me if am wrong...moreover, I still have time to make changes in my profile details....was not very comfortable mentioning that family work-ex thing.... @pram85 bhai..is it a good option.calling @ evry single institute...(keeping mind that IIMs would hardly disclose anything on this subject)..? thanks fr ur replies....
hmmm... that too is right... but at least institutes other than iim would surely answer these type of query... moreover in normal circumstances you would be filling 10-12 forms... I don't think its much of a harder job to call these people for certainty... at least the fear of backfire won't exist then... every1 has there own perception buddy... if you are not satisfied with mine.. try others...

Hey, I won't suggest you to call each and every institute. You can write about the work-ex including your Family Business and leave it to college for considering/not considering. And it's not about chosing 14 or 19. Just write whatever amount of work-ex you have. As after joining the college, you need to give proper papers like relieving and all. Hope this helps.
@snehans said: avinashkrjha but..in my own family business..what kind of documents can i furnish..because, i would not get a salary proof or a relieving letter for that matter....all i can m................dvise would be very much appreciated! thanks in advance!
Now this is something you have to decide on your own. I don't see anything backfiring here. You are working in your Family Business. So mention about it and give whatever documents you can furnish. If at all college or for that any company during placements doesn't consider it, you can't do much about it. But at the same time, there is nothing negative impression getting created because of this. So you can go ahead with it. Hope this helps. All the Best.. !!
Hello puys!!
I need some help.will be very much happy if someone helps me out regarding a decision i have to take.Actually i am an engineering student and about to give cat this year but i have spent all my engineering days sitting in the last benches and scribbling weird stuff in my pocket notebook. What I am trying to say is i have always wanted to be a writer and if possible, a director(well guys do not start thinking of me as a day dreamer, what is wrong with having ambitions).
While having a chat i just asked my mother if she would allow me to do an M.A in English and bang!!!!She refused and was mad at me for thinking of it.Just to make myself feel better i went to my brother and asked him and he said "if you want to do an MA in English, India is not the place to be....no prospects at all...do it abroad".
My brother is just like a guru to me, but i want to stay here itself and guys i really could use some advice pleasssse!!!
Please let me know some good universities or colleges reputed for a good English faculty and also the prospects of doing an M.A English in India.....and what kind of a job can one expect?
Well, Thanks anyways.

It is good to have a dream. But you need to decide what will help you achieve that.
How will MA in English help you become a writer (leave alone a director)? English bachelors and masters courses are more geared towards critiquing existing literature. You read lots of classics and then write essays on those classics. If you are genuinely interested in literature, then it would be a great thing to do.
Also, do consider that there are lakhs of English graduates out there. And there are many successful writers out there too. The intersection of these two sets is not a really large number.
In case you want to do an MA, IGNOU is a good distance learning course. But I would suggest you look at their Diploma in Creative Writing in English course. That is good. Also, try to find avenues for your writings such as newspapers and magazines.
If you want to study films, I think only FTII is the place to be.
Your brother is correct when he said you should go abroad. There are great programs at masters level on writing, dramatics, films and theater. But these are expensive. You should think about how you will recover your expenses..
@[524442:cn22], for you to be a writer, an indepth knowledge of the linguistics of the language would be helpful. An MA in English would be just a study of the literatures that have been written over time, whereas an MA in linguistics would be more helpful. But as many writers in India and abroad have proved, a formal education in English is not always necessary if writing is your calling.
For English, and study of languages, a course in EFLU, Hyderabad is the best place. They also offer courses in Film Studies, though it is not equal to the courses in other film making institutes.
And yes, I too agree with your brother and @[83412:sb29] in agreeing that courses are varied and to the point in universities abroad. The courses in Lancaster University, and the creative writing course in Iowa University are worth taking a look.
But I feel that you should first do a reality check, and decide what it is that you are interested in. Given the response of your mother, you should take into consideration whether you will have a good support system given that making it big either in literature or in films will take a lot of time. Rest is upto you.
All the best!!!!

My Acads are as follows
X-89.4%
XII- 87.3%
I am a student of B.Tech final year with undergrad percentage of 70.5% till Fifth semester.
I see that most of the top notch B-schools have a specific amount of credits to Work-experience..and also many of them have a diversity crap like thing..WIth credits to Girls and Non-ENgineers..Now with a good enough CAT score do I stand a chance to get a call from Top-notch insti even if I don't have an work exp and I am a boy from Engineering BAckground.

Hey i must say you have a very decent profile.you stand a very good chance at many premier colleges. Dont think about the factors which are not in your hand. Just focus on getting a good CAT percentile and then storm your way through the GD/PI('s) of your dream college(s). All the best ! :)

Do u know abt anything that they give special preference to State Board marks?
I am from West Bengal Board..My school marks would not so much be special in comparison to CBSE ICSE marks where above 90% marks are not that rare..

no such preference is given anywhere. Its uniform for everyone. :)
....
@snehans said: @Undrcover @abhimanyu03 brothers...for state board marks the IIMs compute something based on the method of standard deviation ( at least they followed this last year )...and depending on that the overall pattern is developed...i guess, they take into account the highest percentage marks of that board in that specific year, something like that...this was what i came to know...may be it isn't correct...but in my opinion if the IIMs do not do this..then obviously it would not be a level playing field for all..because it is a well known fact that the State board students get low percentage of marks when compared to the students of ISC and CBSE boards...let us see how the IIMs manage it..
i saw IIM-A's criteria and it was purely based on the percentage. rest i dont knw, although i wud like someone to throw some light on it. as there are some state boards in which it is difficult to score. can any puy help on this ??
