Hi..

I'm a 2 year experience professional..
I want to write to GMAT and do MBA in India.I'm planning to take GMAT in nov or dec.

Could you pls suggest me some colleges that would be better to do MBA in the FY 2012-2013 apart from ISB and Great Lake?

Preferable duration of course completion for me is 1 year or utmost 2 years.Pls help me out.

@[602878:Dexter25] I think you must tell the truth.See, 3 years is big and whatever reason you give apart from the truth, no one would believe that. So, its better to go with what you really have done. Don't try to give any other reason or something which creates a sense of suspicion in the interviewer's mind.
Regarding your Masters degree in Public Admin, I don't see a good reason why you should not mention that. You love Humanities and you could tell the interviewer the same. This may give you some brownie point as well if you could substantiate that with your love for HR and that you want to take HR as your specialization. Don't worry about all these mate.
You should worry more about the CAT now and we would always be here to help you out with whatever problem you would face or have for your GD/PIs.
Concentrate more on the preparations now :)

@[382689:Red_Bull].....thanx dude....ur reply was simple and straight...i guess truth always triumphs...i shud focus more on prep now and worry bout dese things after the results....thanx once again...cheers:)

HI,

i am ravi teja and i am currently working in TCS (3 months till date).
I am planning to give cat this year and hoping to get a good percentile.
i am in a quandary regarding which stream to choose, as i am unable to decide on my own.
I would be glad if anyone helps me out.
My profile is as follows.
Xth - 75% (CBSE)
XII - 95.4%
Grad - 86.6%
good extra curriculars.
Work exp - 3months (TCS).

i am unable to decide to choose stream, between OPERATIONS and FINANCE.
i am definitely not inclined towards MARKETING.

@[554282:aapocalypse007] Why do you want to choose your specialization right now ?
You have not even given CAT. All I want to say is don't make your life complex. Prepare well for CAT and give more focus on CAT right now. You'll get full one year(the 1st year of your MBA life) before you decide to take any Specialization. The 1st year in every MBA college is general and you need to decide on the Specialization only in the second year. You never know which course would attract your attention or make you fall in love for that.
This is the only reason why every MBA college teaches general Management courses in 1st year so that after reading all the subjects, students could decide on the specialization based on which of them they liked the most and in which they think they could excel.

Start preparing right away. Take CAT 2012 to gain experience. If you do well, you can expect decent calls. Otherwise, you can start target CAT 2013. ATB

Holla Peeps!

I am an engineer graduate (in Computer Engineering) 2012 batch, and giving CAT this year. My doubt is that I will search for a decent job after my CAT in october. How difficult would me to get a good job? Should I try from now only or should I try after my CAT? Should I be contented with a not-so-good job? Since mostly I am going to commit only till June/July i.e. once my MBA has been confirmed, will the company take me- or should i worry about it after CAT?

Thanks for your response in adv!

First of all , with the time left for CAT, i won't suggest you to spend time on Job search as well. It's better to focus only on MBA entrances.

Once you are done with exams, then you can go for a job for few months to see how things work in industry.

Now, coming to the context of good job or not so good job...See, it is very subjective. One may define a good job as a high paying one and the other might define it as a job which provides good exposure to learning etc. If your definition is second one, then i will suggest to go for a good job so that despite it being a short stint in job before joining college, you would have learnt something!

Hope this helps!

All the best!

With your experience, you should look at programs like ISB, XLRI GMP, SPJIMR PGPM etc. An international MBA would be great in case you can afford it.

Almost all of these programs require GMAT. Typical GMAT preparation time is 3 months. So you should be ready by October end, well in time for B-school applications. While GMAT score is important, it is not enough. Your SOP and recommendations also matter for these programs as the selection is profile based.

Hi, I looking for some fruitfull advices. I m working presently in an IT firm "NDS" which is now aquired by CISCO for the last 1.5 year. Before joining NDS I also worked in a small Firm for 1 year. I want to do MBA now and i am focussing on clearing CAT 2013[next year] with some Weekends TIME coaching to get into TOP 15 B Schools in INDIA. Can anyone please advice me that if i do clear and get into TOP 15 B School for 2 years full time MBA course , will it be fruitefull for me in terms of Job, Salary, wont i b less preffered then Freshers as said in 1 of the comments above. ?

1 more question --There are also classes being held for working professionals which is also regarded as 2 year Full Time MBA. So, Suppose if i dont quit JOB, and get into a reputed
College on basis of my CAT score, what can i expect from this ? i really dont have much of Info about this ? What benifit this will provide ? and how will it be different from a regular
2 year MBA full time course ?

Hi,
I'm facing a predicament. I'm a B.Tech who completed his MBA from a tier 2 institute specialising in marketing. I had around 3 years of working experience in an IT company before I joined my MBA. I was completely disillusioned with the IT industry while working there and wanted to do something else, and that's primarily why I went for my MBA. But as luck would have it, I got placed at an IT company as a Presales Consultant after my MBA too. Now since I joined with 3 years work ex, I got a average to decent pay package, which I dont complain about much, after all, a tier 2 b-school only gets you as far. But 1 year into the job now, I realise, that the sense of disillusionment that got me out of the industry before, still exists, and maybe has become even stronger now. What I was maybe too immature and naive to realize then, but do now, is what my true calling is all about. I realize, I am ideally suited for working with and for people. I like helping people, being in touch with the population, understand their needs and wants, debating policy, structuring conceivable plans, but unfortunately, I've never had any formal exposure to social service as a profession. I've tried pushing my CV into organisations like the UNO, WHO and UNICEF, but what they want primarily is experience in the domain of social service, and secondly they all prefer to recruit people who have had their formal education in either PR/Mass Comm/Journalism or have degrees in some social science like Sociology/Anthropology/Social Work/Habitat Planning etc. So here comes my question, I was deliberating getting out of the industry once again, and this time to follow my calling. It's a leap of faith, I totally realize that, but it's something I want to do. And I realize too that the money won't be excellent, but I'm not really looking for the money here, I'm looking for the satisfaction. I'm a bit confused now, about how to get on with my plan. I was thinking of trying for an MA in SW or HR from TISS, but I realize its very difficult to get in, and even more difficult to convince the interview panel of my predicament. Other options that I can pursue, like mass comm/PR etc, but I'm not aware of them at all.

So here's where I need help Puys, please give me some suggestions. I know it's asking a lot to ask an open ended question and expect answers, but Puys have never let me down.

@[604239:Vipuls] Don't worry, you won't be less preferred than the freshers. That's a misconception which people generally have that freshers are generally more preferred then work-ex folks. There are many company who only look for work-ex guys while some company look for freshers. So, it doesn't really matter if you're a work-ex guy or fresher as far as you're doing your MBA from a top college. There's enough opportunity for all :)
Now, coming to your second query. See, 2 years full time MBA means you've to leave your job and study in the college. The one you're talking about is part time MBA and it really doesn't have much acceptance or credibility in the industry. part time MBA's are generally done by guys who want to move up the ladder in the same firm and may be in the same profile. So, I would suggest that you eye for full time MBA from a reputed college. that would be really good for you and for your profile.

@[595055:sk_mdu] Why do you want to join Alliance? I've not heard good about this college and would advise you to seriously reconsider your decision. The MBA season has just started. Try to make it big in CAT/XAT or any other MBA exams. You could get a much better college with a little more preparation.
