@[83412:sb29]I really appreciate your advice. It was really something of a motivation. As far as FTII is concerned, I tried to find out all about it but could not go any deeper. I think their website is not much informative and is of no use to me. I mean i really want to study films but the no of seats is just 12 and for the so called entrance exam i couldn't find any model paper.

I know that i am asking too much but seriously i could do with a little bit of info regarding the entrance exam for direction and screenplay writing.
Sorry for being an ass but i have one final question ...Do they really select students solely on the basis of the test and interview??I doubt if there is no trace of partiality.....

Thanks again for your valuable reply....

After two years of MCA from a reputed college, you will have to start from the bottom in an IT company. By the current trends salary should be in the range of 3-4 Lakhs which is less than half of what you are earning.

Also it is a common mis-conception that IT is programming. You will definitely do a fair bit of programming in the early days, but you will have to take up higher responsibilities as you move up the ladder. You will have to take a call on whether you are going to be comfortable with that.

My suggestion is that you consider the MBA program from a good institute seriously. Options in IT consulting are available. You could also use the domain knowledge that you have gained from IOCL to some use. Your salary levels will also be decent.

Think about it, discuss with friends and experienced professionals before taking a decision. ATB

thanks buddy for your reply! r u sure about the salary part as nit-trichy's average salary is 5.5 & highest 11.5 & iit-roorkee's avrg salary is 6.75....
Since you had indicated a preference for programming, I had indicated the likely salaries in companies like TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro etc. However IT Consulting firms will pay more though their intake will be restricted.

You will have to look at the figures listed in the placement reports of the institute website more carefully. Often a few placements @ high salaries will skew the averages. The median salary will be a better indicator. Moreover all institutes report the salaries based on "Cost to the Company" which always projects a higher salary.

Trust I have made myself clear. ATB

@[382689:Red_Bull].. Hello Friend, just wanted to share with u a wiered thoght of mine 😃 Actually till date i already have 2.5 yeras of exp with a salary in the range of 5 lakhs p.a. and as i am planning to give CAT 2013-14 and if with GOD's grace will get into a Top 15 colleges by May-June 2014. By this time i ill have a total of 4 + years of experience and with a salary package of around 6-6.5 lakhs p.a approx. So i have a question that during my MBA, this 4+ yeras of experience will be seen as an advantage for me or ill be taken as a candidate who is having more exp(2+ exp whould be better, as people say one should get into MBA within 2-3 yrs of Exp). Also i have to get a placement into a company which will give me around 8-10 lakhs p.a otherwise there wont be any use of quitting JOb and going for MBA. Can you please throw some light on it ?

@[604239:Vipuls]

Hey ... I guess we are sailing in the same boat.. Its my first year at CAT too in 2012..
I already have 2 years of work-ex with a decent package of 4.5 lacs.. I am not too confident in getting into the top 15 with a preparation only of one year.. But I would keep trying..
According to me the key here is not the package after my MBA... It would be the degree in the long run..
However I'l make sure that If I am getting an MBA done... It has to be from the top 15 or else it really makes no sense leaving a good job and doing it just for the sake of another degree... that too after a work Ex of 4 years..

@[602136:PagaLDroid] Thats trur yaar. It wont make a sense if we leave our Job and get ito some xyz colg for MBA. And even i have a passion of doing MBA as You have it. But we should make sure that we get into a TOP 15 colg and also money matters 2. TOP 15 colg will definately help us in getting a Job which ill b worth of 8-10 Lacks p.a 😃

Hi,

I'm facing a predicament. I'm a B.Tech who completed his MBA from a tier 2 institute specialising in marketing. I had around 3 years of working experience in an IT company before I joined my MBA. I was completely disillusioned with the IT industry while working there and wanted to do something else, and that's primarily why I went for my MBA. But as luck would have it, I got placed at an IT company as a Presales Consultant after my MBA too. Now since I joined with 3 years work ex, I got a average to decent pay package, which I dont complain about much, after all, a tier 2 b-school only gets you as far. But 1 year into the job now, I realise, that the sense of disillusionment that got me out of the industry before, still exists, and maybe has become even stronger now. What I was maybe too immature and naive to realize then, but do now, is what my true calling is all about. I realize, I am ideally suited for working with and for people. I like helping people, being in touch with the population, understand their needs and wants, debating policy, structuring conceivable plans, but unfortunately, I've never had any formal exposure to social service as a profession. I've tried pushing my CV into organisations like the UNO, WHO and UNICEF, but what they want primarily is experience in the domain of social service, and secondly they all prefer to recruit people who have had their formal education in either PR/Mass Comm/Journalism or have degrees in some social science like Sociology/Anthropology/Social Work/Habitat Planning etc. So here comes my question, I was deliberating getting out of the industry once again, and this time to follow my calling. It's a leap of faith, I totally realize that, but it's something I want to do. And I realize too that the money won't be excellent, but I'm not really looking for the money here, I'm looking for the satisfaction. I'm a bit confused now, about how to get on with my plan. I was thinking of trying for an MA in SW or HR from TISS, but I realize its very difficult to get in, and even more difficult to convince the interview panel of my predicament. Other options that I can pursue, like mass comm/PR etc, but I'm not aware of them at all.

So here's where I need help Puys, please give me some suggestions. I know it's asking a lot to ask an open ended question and expect answers, but Puys have never let me down.

No comments for me? Help me out guys...

Before taking the plunge, work part time at some NGO and see if you like the work. Or leave your work and join places like IFMR as program officer. If you like it, maybe you can study further (on or off the job).

Rather than focusing on the top 15 colleges, you could extend your selection range to the top 50 colleges. It will definitely pay back in the long run, if your goals are clear. ATB

@[604239:Vipuls] Your 4 years of work-ex at the time of Admission won't really matter a lot. In fact it would be a plus point for you as you could relate most of the learning with your work-ex and this would help you get a good placement too. Many of the companies comes to campus specially for work-ex guys and if you've the relevant experience then it helps not only in getting good package but good profile too. I hope this clears all your doubt regarding work-ex and placements 😃
PS: I would suggest you to not look beyond top 20 MBA colleges of India. Colleges other than these won't do justice to your work-ex. If you still have any more doubts, revert here.

@[382689:Red_Bull] That was a v good explanation. Thanks a lot buddy. 😃

sb29, thanks a lot for your advice. I didn't know about IFMR and checked it out. However, by background is in Engg, Marketing & Systems, and it seems that they are mostly looking for finance or social work professionals. Nevertheless, I'll send in a CV and check it out. Another question, the website is really pretty to look at. But how is the organisation? Is it decent enough to work at. A friend of mine from MBA got into an MFI organisation from campus, however he found the experience to be really bad. The organisation didn't care about the employees, and he ended up spending more than he earned sometimes, which took several months to get reimbursed partially, if at all.
I'm not too sure about the Indian NGOs though. I've known one very famous one from up close, working towards the cause of education of orphans. They had the most awesome marketing. People from every strata in society donated and they used to hold a gala dinner every year for some of the highest donors. And the very orphans they used to seek help for, were used as waiters and servants during those dinners. It was awful. I'd like a more stable and better managed organisation to start off with, and would prefer a semi govt managed or internationally managed organisation. I've thought of trying for the civil services, but I'm too old to qualify. So, any other ideas people? And please can anyone provide me an idea about TISS and whether it's a good decision to join it mid-career?
Thanks in advance

If you are fresher do job atleast 2 years. At fresher level a lot of confusion arises.

After having some 1-2 year of experiance corporate exposure you will get to know where

you should explore more and what is your area of intrest.

In Software Testing there are good oppurtunity try to learn some tools like QTP,Load runner etc.

Dont worry about salary part as IT is a good paying industry for deserving candidate.

Friends, I'm a BBA first year student from a not so reputed college. I was a science student till 12th Std. but later on changed my stream to management as I neither had interest in mathematics nor I'm good at it. But somehow I feel that BBA won't help me much.

My academics are as follows:

2010 - 10th: 10 CGPA (CBSE)
2012 - 12th: 71% (PCM)
Now doing BBA.
But the problem is even after completing BBA and paying fee almost equal to that paid by my engineering counterparts, I have no chance of getting a decent job.
I've thought of some options:

1. Cracking CAT as everybody tries to and land up in a decent B-School. But here's the catch. B-Schools mostly engg. grads and that too with work ex. And thinking about getting a decent job after BBA is a sin .

2. Prepare for some govt. job like Bank PO or IAS (at least give it a damn shot).

3. Or couple my BBA with some kind of professional course like CA/CWA/CS.

And yeah...I've a great deal of interest in equity markets. (Just thought of telling you all)

Please guide me.

@[601219:NarangSaab] my friend was a BBA like you,... he did his MBA from NMIMS (capital markets) and has also cleared CFA L3 at the age of 22!!

he is working in a well reputed finance company with package better than the engineers of his class..
so it is all about hard work and determination.. and yes, his acads were quite lower than that of urs..
I hope this would provide you with some motivation.. :)

@[201117:mayankleo_1]Thanks Bhai. Really, Puys are quite quick in helping others. Truly motivating.
