There are many top B-Schools which do not give much importance to academics. A good score in CAT can get you a call from these schools. You need to look at your MOCK CAT scores and take a realistic view. If you are doing well in these tests with scores above 80, you can hope for a good score in CAT. You can then join a training course for PI/GD to prepare for the interviews.
The other option is to enroll for an Executive MBA in a decent B-school and work hard. You can expect a decent placement from where your career can take off. ATB
@[580208:Sivshanth] Appreciate ur response. My MOCK CAT scores are hovering around the 55-60 percentile mark. I m trying to improve on that. But if I fail to score a high CAT percentile this year, would it be judicious on my part to give another go at CAT next year? As I have already mentioned, I am on the wrong side of 30 and left my job to prepare for CAT.

Though MOCK CAT scores are indicative, they do not always reflect the exact score you will get in CAT. Your current score should give you a score of 80+ in CAT. I suggest that you analyze your areas of strengths and weaknesses. You should consolidate your strengths and work towards improvement in your weaker areas. During this time, you can give the MOCK CAT's a miss.
Right now, you just have to focus on maximizing your score. Also make sure you apply to 10-15 colleges where the cut-off is in the range of 80-85 percentile. By this you can hope to get calls from a few colleges.
Once your CAT score comes out, you can consider the next course of action.

"However on the positive side there are quite a few top notch colleges which do not give importance to your undergraduate marks " sir may i know the colleges ? are there any such IIM's ?
@[521473:gelato] There's only one advice - Don't quit your job. Continue with your job and prepare well for the CAT. Quitting your job at this time must be the last thing in your mind. Its better to take sick leave or any other leave your company policy has before 10 days of your CAT exam.
Hi,
I finished my graduation (Btech) in Electronics and communication in 2010, and got placed in an MNC that year itself. And had been trained on Java for a month
But later on, I was put onto bench for more than 6 months due to lack of projects. and then i was send to work in a client office on server side operation (Linux, Apache)...
I finished more than 1.5 yrs in the same project and got bored and pissed off about my the work i am doing.... there is nothing new that i am learning jsut doing the same old work everyday... :(
I want to achieve something... i just can't waste my life this way...
So.. can anyone of you please suggest me what is good for me..?
either
1. To go ahead and do MS in weekends, continuing in the job..? (as, i am very interested in learning new things)
2. to prepare for CAT and go for MBA (as i am good in leadership qualities)
3. to learn new technologies and get a new job and continue in the IT field itself.
4. or to give GRE and do MS fulltime
One more thing is... since i am a girl and already 23 years now... my parents started searching a guy for me already... they just don't bother about teh confusions i am having in mind... they just say that... you have a job in hand.. that is enough....
but i am not able to go with this.... i wanns achieve something.. i wanna have a identity for me unlike.. just a software engg in so and so company....
Can anyone please guide me... what i need to do...??????
the following are my academic details:
10th (CBSE) - 76.5%
PUC - 91.6%
B.Tech - 79.4%
Please suggest me something.... and also.. how to achive what you had suggested.... please please...... my head is breaking with all these thoughts
take a piece of white paper and write down the advantages and
disadvantages of pursuing each of the options.this will clear your
head.and give some idea of which is a better option
My take on your situation:
First of all you have a very good academic track record.
your parents are the best judges of your life. They have seen life 20
years ahead of you and also have been observing you for the past 23
years. So they know what is best for you.Never ever ignore your parents
advice they know more than you( and I know).
People out there are dying to get into MNC's adopting all the
means(back doors) they can to get into. And you already have a job on
hand with experience why do you even wanna leave it. People with linux
are hot cakes in the market today.Do some certifications in Linux.
If you are so pissed off with your job and want some adventure Learn
new technologies like embedded systems and Since you are already into
linux you can also go for Device Drivers .and once you learn ES Do some
coding on microcontrollers and find an application to some problem or
come up with some thing new using your creativity.these could be some
(http://science.discovery.com/videos/tech-entertainment/)
You can also go ahead and do Mtech part time.
(this is my personal view.As far as I have seen.may be right ..may be
wrong)
Hi Yogi..
Thank You for your reply...
And i do respect my parents words..... i know how much they are concerned about me.. that is the reason i did not take any decision untill now... but.. i cannot take it anymore.. doing this kind of work is really irritating me...
Actually to be FRANK .. i have been working in a support project where in my work is just to excute some pre-written scripts, do small changed to the webserver config and write small scripts...
I am not thatt good in any of the things i have been doing from this past 1.5 years.... but i have learnt a lot on how to deal with the Managers and how exactly the release management works.... as i have been working along with Reelease management and also learnt how to tackle customers....
But not at all good enough in any technology...... but i have touch in all... Java, Linux, ATG, Web performance tuning
Now..please suggest me what should i do.....
If you are not interested in the technical side of the things then it is better to shift to the management side.your knowledge with management may also come in handy for you.give CAT your best shot ....and keep options with others exams like XAT,IIFT etc.
Its is not like i am not technically interested or something... i am asking suggestion like.. whether going in technical field (say learning new technologies, continuing in job) will be good for me.. as i like learning new things... or going for MBA will be good.. or doing MS so that i can go in research.... What do you think will be good for me and will have a good future... ?
sorry for buging with many questions.... but i am not in a possition to take any decision.. and whom all i have consulted in my family is suggesting.. just goon with what you are doing... why do you want to atke more pain... but i am able to accept it..
* I am NOT able to accept it
are certificates of taking part in college tech fest helpful in placement
Hi, I'm a newbie here.. I decided to take up CAT 2013. But one thing is bothering me, This might be a frequently asked qstn, but here it goes..

)
) - Score - 79%
)
atlst the new IIM's..
@[609486:wickedcool]-decent chances at iim-c,l if you get good %ile in cat.
@[609089:Jeeethu] Hi Jeethu.... :)
After seeing your post, I can understand you are in a confused state of mind.
No worries, i think the answer to your questions is about priorities and what you would love to do from your heart.
Just decide whether your mind is more inclined to research side or management side.
Don't worry , on which side you will have better future. Both are equally good, provided which one you want to pursue. The best job is the one which gives you satisfaction.
Ask from your inside , what you really want because no other person can see what you really want.
Reading your post I understand you want to break the monotonous work you are doing, so I think you should not continue in IT (but don't just leave your job now).
All the best for your future endeavor.....:):)
