If a particular institute gives interview calls based on CAT score eg all applicants above 90%ile, then you will get the opportunity to attend the interview and explain your situation. If it is based on profile, they may or may not call you for the interview and you won't get a chance to explain your situation.
Thanks bud, that explains it all. Anyway, it shouldn't be a problem for me getting into any of the Symbi institutes because of a certain condition. Do you have any idea how the MGB program of SP Jain is?

Hii...I am starting my preparation for cat 2012 now from scratch. I was badly stuck in my work...Now i am getting some free time. Just 2 months is left for the exam. Will i be able to score decent percentile provided that I study for 4 to 5 hours daily?

My academics:
10th- 80.5%(C.B.S.E)
12th-59.8%(C.B.S.E)
BCA-66%(GGSIPU,New Delhi , 2008_2012)
Also I have 1 year gap after 12th(health issues) & have cleared my BCA in 4 yrs instead of 3 yrs(family issues).
Will appear 4 CAT 2012..preparations r decent..hoping 2 get above 80%. keeping in mind my education gaps, what are my chances of getting a decent B-school?

Get a good CAT score, and when you're called for your interview, explain your situation to the panel. Perhaps for your medical issues, you'd have to take along a medical certificate from the time

You can but you need to prepare for more time than that. Atleast 8-10 hours.

Hello! I am a 2012 Civil Engineering engineering graduate from a reputed college, now working as a Design Engineer in one of the reputed firms. I plan to write CAT 2013, so by the time I join , I will have a 1.5+ work experience. I wanted to know if my current work experience in the core technical sector would be relevant or not. Also, my academics in school have been fairly good but the college acads are just average. I have a good load of extracurricular activities to boast about during school/college. I wanted some suggestions for extracurricular for resume building as a working professional now. And on a scale of 1-10, how important a role do extracurricular activities play in the end? Can they compensate for being stuck at a 90-95 percentile bracket and still securing admission at one of the top 10 b-school? Thanks!

You have a good profile and I don't think you have to worry much. Profile is important by test scores are given a good amount of weightage even in places like SP Jain where the decision is profile based.
If you can get into projects or initiatives which deal with management and organization in your company, that will prove to be helpful.

Quickly find out your strengths and weaknesses. Work on the basics and get your fundamental concepts clear. Avoid taking mock tests till you have completed your preparation. 3-4 mocks , a fortnight before the exams should help to fine tune your strategy.

If you find that your progress is not great, you can continue preparation for CAT 2013. ATB
@sakshi43
You must first look at scoring to your potential in CAT. Do not worry too much about your profile. It cannot be changed. However you can use your work experience to display your leadership and team-work skills. Keep track of instances where your contribution to the success of your team was significant. These experiences when properly projected can create a very favourable impression during the personal interviews. ATB

I am persuing Btech in Computer Science . I am in 4th year.I havn't perpared for the CAT-12.. I will passout in June,2013. I am willing to appear in CAT-13. But in that case, I will have a year gap after B.Tech. I am much worried about this gap. Will I face problems to get into a good mba college? Will it hamper even my MBA recruitment?? Please reply.

1. First of all, I would suggest you to appear for CAT 2012 as well even though you are not preparing much for it. The experience will def help you for the next year.

2. If you can manage to get a job, you can escape from the situation of having 1 year Gap.

3. And in the worst case scenario, you can utilise the time effectively for preparation of CAT 2013. You can justify about the gap in GD/PI with some genuine reasons. Right now, don't get much worried on this. And try to prepare from now only if it is possible.

Thanks for ur reply.. Yes , i will appear in CAT-12. Actually, I had planned to have work experience first. But, in this present scenario of economic crisis , I am not sure that I will get a job. As u know, many MNCs are giving late joining dates, almost 10 to 11 months late from the month of passing out.Thats why I have thought of this. If I have 1 year gap and I am asked the reason for this gap in the Interview, what can be the genuine reasons?? I guess I cant speak out what i explained u here now. 😛 Can I??? Then what should i say at that moment??

1. Yes, you can def answer them the truth.

2. In the meanwhile, give your best in everything : Final Yr Exams and then CAT,XAT, etc and the subsequent GD/PI's. ATB.. !!

ok. Then I am a bit relieved now. 😃 .Thank u. I will keep asking my queries here.. Ya , I am going to start preps from next week onwards...

@anubhuti9 I have a suggestion that is a bit different from the others that you have received so far..
I would say as the time on hand is short, start with a couple of mocks... There is no better way to find out your strengths and weaknesses, you will at least figure out which sections or parts of sections you can handle easily and which are the areas that are lacking accuracy/speed. One more thing is that don't take these scores to the heart in case you do badly, just remember the fact that these tests are just to check at what level you belong without any preparation... Once these results are there, you can determine for yourself as to how much time is to be spent on which things...
@Deepakumar31 CAT doesn't happen in March, it happens in October-November and the college sessions usually start in June of next year...
As for the preparation, you can have a look around on pagalguy itself to know the basics as to what all sessions are there, what is the usual difficulty level, etc. and then you can find some books and start practicing :-)
@niteshpinge thanks a lot..its is definitely boosting up my confidence..will definitely work hard to get a decent percentile in these two months..thanks for ur valuable suggestion
@niteshpinge Thanks for ur Information...Well I know That CAT Paper will be in Oct-Nov,
I am gonna start my coaching in March, Do you think that this period of my coaching is enough to get Admission in Good B-School.
@anubhuti9 said: How is LBSIM? And how is its summer internship and placement?

LBSIM :

1. Ranked among Top 50 in PG.

2. Decent RoI because of fee on lower side.

3. Avg Salary : 7.7

4. Located in Delhi.

5. For detailed Summer and Final Placement Report :

@Deepakumar31 I have seen people with even 2 years of preparations failing to make it to a good college but at the same time I have seen people with a couple of months preparation making it through...
So can't really say as to what time frame is appropriate, it changes from person to person.. But from March till October should be more than time for most of the people :-)
