@Enduser said:@supratimd916 I had talks with you in this thread earlier. I am writing CAT and SNAP this year. But CAT seems to be a uphill task for this year. Rather SNAP looks quite possible. I'm trying hard for both. My profile looks:
10th: 81.37 % (WBBSE) 2004
12th : 86.5% (WBCHSE)2006
B.Pharm: 84.6% (WBUT)2010
M.Pharm: 86.5% (BIT, Mesra)2012
By 2012 end I'll have 6mths work ex in Cipla, in loan licence coordination dept as a trainee management staff. Do you think with good score in SNAP 2012 and such short work ex I'll be able to get into SIIB/SCMHRD?
Also suggest me whether I should wait for CAT next yr, by when my work ex will grow to about 18 mths.
1.Your acads are good. You definitely stand a chance of getting through to SCMHRD/SIIB. Dont worry about the work-ex because lots of freshers even get through to these colleges.
2. SCMHRD/SIIB are very good colleges. But if you think you can get better by preparing for 1 more year ,I will tell you to go for it. Always remember this is most probably your last degree so do it in and where you truly want.
(My first post after lurking for ... well .. 4 years )
10th: 88.3 % 2004
12th : 83.6% 2006
B.Tech: 62.7% 2010
I am worried about my Btech Score, If i manage to get a decent percentile (99+) will i have a good chance of getting calls from (IIM - C , L, I , K, MDI , FMS, JB). I have a bond of 3l with my company so which institute will be good for me in terms of ROI because i have to pay 3l to the company. Please advice me if its better if i wait till the bond period finishes or break it.
First, a small background info, I finished my BE( mech) in 2012. I have also enrolled my self for a M.Sc Psychology correspondence course which I would be completing in 2014. I have two offers right now, 1. System Engg in Infosys, 2. Content Writer post for the New Indian Express.
My query,
1. Personally, I would love to take up my job with teh Indian Express, but would this count as work experience when I do my MBA (HR) after I finish my M.Sc?
2. Would this count as the 'diversity' that the B-Schools look for?
I kindly request all the seniors to help me decide the right career path and would love to hear all your inputs..Thankyou.
I did my engineering in electronics and instrumentation and now currently working in TCS(almost 2years). I always had a passion towards my core but as a curse for every middle class indian i had to join freely available IT rather than hard-to-get core.
But,before its too late,i need a switch over.Thing is I'm really in a dilemma as they started visa initiation process for my onsite. And being complete fresher to my core, not sure as where to begin.
I did certification courses in PLC,SCADA,DCS all and still technically strong ;)...need guidance on where to start and which place is better to work. Is Gulf a good place to start for a fresher???

1. In my view, you should take up the job in which you have interest. It's not about doing MBA. It's about enjoying your job.
2. Even I have worked for 3 years. And I feel that you can rise in your career only when you are sattisfied with your Job.
3. Yes, it would def count as Work-Ex. No issues :)
4. To some extent, it would also count as the diversity. :)

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!!!
1. In my view, Gulf won't be a good place to start. It will be good if you start your career in India only as the conditions will be conducive.
2. Earning money is a different thing. Once you get a job of your liking and you are sattisfied with the kind of work you are doing, Salary Packages will take care of itself.
3. I would also suggest you not to leave the present job in order to search a Core Job. Keep working.

1.The booming Gulf is no more a reality . The opportunities in India are far more than that in the gulf due to the severe credit crunch (eg. near bankruptcy of Dubai).
2. Since your prior experience is in I.T I would suggest that you look towards getting into start up companies. After 2-3 years of work ex in the start up you will be able to switch to a better company.
3. Also you can do M.Tech/M.S which will surely help you in getting a core job.
Thanks Avinash!! I have corporate experience now and also I'm ready to get into core as i have exposure to cor...................... be best for a long run.
Yep, but still think many times before going to Gulf. I would suggest you to be here only (Personal Opinion).
@avinashkrjha Your views are much appreciated , thank you 😃 . I would also like to know what possible consequences that I might have to face, for ex. in the interview panel. On the whole, my profile looks like a collage work with BE, M.Sc, irrelevant work exp, with no proper direction to it but I feel I've taken the right step at every junction and truly believe I can connect the dots with time. I would also like to know whether the M.Sc through correspondence can be justified as PG during MBA admissions.

Thank you
1. You might be asked questions regarding your job that you chose.
2. You need to justify that why you chose that job over the job that was related to your background.
3. I don't think correspondence course will work as the PG program. But you could be asked about it in the Interview. Try to justify your learnings from the course in the interview.

But as of now cat has started considering boards marks is the cause of worry for me. I have only scored 65 % in 12th. Please guide me weather I should continue preparing considering the fact I have already commited mistake of joining new IIT!

1. First of all let me tell you that you have done no mistake by joining a new IIT.
2. You should def continue preparing for CAT. Your 12th score could hamper your chances only for 2-3 colleges. For rest, if you score good in CAT, you will def get calls.
One of the best takeaways from an IIT is the environment that it provides - the high level of competition among the best. This exposure will definitely help you in your career.
Now coming to the need for joining an MBA program. If you plan to work in the industry then an MBA degree would give you a big advantage. Ideally, it would be best if you could work for a couple of years, get a feel of the industry and then take the plunge. This will make your study more meaningful. ATB
Currently iam having 2.5 yrs of IT exp in an MNC . Since my father is diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, doc has adviced inpatient treatment for 10 months starting from November. Despite repeated requests iam not even granted a month's leave , hence i have decided to resign from the job and go ahead with his treatment. I dont have any siblings or concerned relatives to help me in this situation . I intent to appear for CAT 2013 .
Will the 1 yr gap hit me negatively during interviews .
