Currently iam having 2.5 yrs of IT exp in an MNC . Since my father is diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, doc has adviced inpatient treatment for 10 months starting from November. Despite repeated requests iam not even granted a month's leave , hence i have decided to resign from the job and go ahead with his treatment. I dont have any siblings or concerned relatives to help me in this situation . I intent to appear for CAT 2013 .
Will the 1 yr gap hit me negatively during interviews .
Thanks,
You would def be asked about the gap in your interviews. But if you can justify it with these genuine reasons, it should not be a problem.
@avinashkrjha : Thanks avinash, it is a hard decision to take . The night is darkest just before the dawn - that is my current situation . Hoping for the dawn i might resign for a good cause .
I'm a 2012 B.Tech pass out, now on job I have not started with the preparation for CAT'13 yet, even though I've taken the exam slot. I know that I wont be able to make it to the CAT this time since I have not started yet so I'm planning for CAT'14....so what do you guys suggest to start with so that what I study should also be utilized in CAT'13 or maybe XAT as well?

Take few Mock Exams.. :)
After that analyse the mocks thoroughly. Identify few areas where you think you are going wrong frequently. Work on those areas.. :)
As your slot approaches, give mock everyday. That makes you mentally prepared for the Exam. Don't bother bout your scores or %ile in mocks.
I can very well understand you situation... This coporate life is a shit and the people over there are shittier ... I think a decision if taken for a good cause and completed with diligence would one or the other day surely bear Fruit.... You have ample time now ... specially tumhare liye "OKHLI MEIN SIR DIYA TO MOOSLON SE KYA DAR "

My name is Rajneesh pushker. I completed my B.SC. Agriculture from Allahabad agriculture institute deemed university. At this time I am working in PRADAN a NGO work for poor people and help them in obtaining livelihood, help them in growing food, in their finance making self help group. This work is related to my field agriculture which I learn in my graduation. After joining this NGO I learn a lot of thing in 2 month like how an organization function, how to maintain discipline in organization. And then my guide in this NGO (at this time I am on internship) said to me search for my energy what I want to do in my life where I see myself after 10 years. After that I explore myself 2 days and find out that from my childhood I want to be a entrepreneur and also want to work for society. At this time I don't have proper degree to do this I have to acquire knowledge so that I understand what is business is all about. For this I want to do MBA from IIM and then earn some money so that I can set up my own organization and after become a hardcore businessman I motivate people to work for society. This is my passion if I don't do this I frustrate in my life. Somebody can say that this don't work or business is children play but I want to try this 4 times 5 times after that if I fail at least I have satisfaction I try my best. Now working condition is not very good I have to live in a village where electricity is not available I have to recharge my cell phone by using solar light but I can work if this help me getting through IIM. my question to you are after doing this work for one year or two year if I am able to crack cat written paper this experience can help me in interview or I just leave this organization and study and then go for interview. Explain weightage of this work experience in interview. If I give my 4-5 years to this organization then I am not able to do anything because I donot have very much knowledge and not any degree from some reputated college . what is the good option at this point . MBA college give how much weightage to social work if I join TEACH FOR INDIA . or I join M.SC AGRICULTURE ECONOMICS and prepare for cat . I want to do MBA IN AGRICUSINESS FROM IIM lucknow or from IIMA. this NGO work for RURAL PEOPLE in obtaining food help them in doing agriculture operation and i am a student of B.SC. agriculture if i do this job for one year or two year and then go for interview in iima or IIml for pgp agribusiness program can this help me in selection working condition is not very good i also have option to leave this and join TEACH FOR INDIA but NGO IS not directly related to my field which option is good for me please help me in choosing right path
from here i have two option either i do my job and utilise left time for study and give cat next year(i have to study more ) or i leave this job and do msc agriculture economics and prepare for bank and after bank i got more time by doing job in bank and the prepare for cat (if i go for second option i am confident i can crack bank exam in 6 month preparation ) for the gap i can say that i am doing msc agriculture economics please help me in selecting the best option . at this i think i have to study more for getting into iima (my background is agriculture i want to do mba in agribusiness from iima or iiml ( one more option if this exp. is important them i left msc agriculture econoics and do this and left it after one year and then go for bank and then iiml (cat is a very tough exam so i want to opt a bank job so that it donot give me extra presurre please reply me its very urgent at this time i am doing my job and not able to concentrate on any thing please
1. You need to identify your interest. If you are enjoying the present job you are doing, then I suggest you to continue with it and prepare for CAT.
2. Option of first cracking bank exam after joining M-Sc Course and then preparing for CAT looks very difficult. You are planning for so many things at a time which is easier said than done.
3. It is suggested that you take it easy. Try doing what you enjoy and then carry on with your preparations. All the Best.. !!
@priyaved said: is it worth joining tcy online tests series???suggestions plz....
You can join, but the number of people joining this test series is very less. So you can't make out your relative performance from the %ile you get here.
So, I suggest you to take the mock exam of TIME/CL/IMS etc.. !!
I need some guidance as how to plan my future.Currently,I have 2 years of experience in IT sector and i really want to go for an M.B.A from a good foreign university/ISB/some really good Indian MBA college(a real good MBA program anywhere in the world). Actually i am ready to struggle but that should make my vision fulfilled. But neither i have too strong profile now w.r.t(a typical Indian IT male) nor i am financially strong for the same right now.
With current experiences(2.5 years in a reputed MNC) and profile(10th-85%,12th-68%,B.Tech-8.79/10), i can only try for CAT/XAT next year. However, in my view, if i go for MS for now(which is obviously easy to get into than foreign B-school), then for a job there for some years and then for an MBA ,i think it would be easier for person like me to get into a good B-school there.Though it seems a little bit time consuming, still it will take me to the right position after all the labor done. However, there is also an alternate option to wait for some more years and then try for a GMAT/CAT/XAT and try to get into a desired B-school.However, by this time ,i will have enough experience and i don't know if i even fail for foreign universities then, an Indian MBA would be helpful or not.Again i will have to be in IT sector for some years and i strongly feel i need to start preparing now with a destined vision in my mind. Suddenly,i am also thinking about doing an MBA from Indian college now and then a second real good MBA after some considerable work time.Is that a good option?
As you can easily predict that i am too confused right now with so many options,so your guidance is too much appreciated.I am eagerly waiting for your response/suggestions/guidance.
Hi,I am preparing for CAT-2013,will complete 2 years of work exp.My profile is BE-72.81%, 12th-65.77% and 10th-79.40% with 2 year exp in ibm...I want to know if I score well in CAT-13 then can I get calls from all IIMs or I am out of the race of IIMs... I'll be very honest with you. Most top IIMs ( A, B, K, I, S ) look for good acads while giving calls. I personally dont think you will get calls from these even with a good CAT score. But still i advise you to research more and get more opinions.
There are other good institutes such as IIM C, IIM L, NITIE, MDI, FMS which give calls only based on good CAT scores. You should target these institutes.
can som1tell me whether bpo jobs are considered in terms of work ex in gd/pi round in good colleges.plz reply thanx
Frankly speaking, you are at a slight disadvantage compared to those who have worked in core industries. That said, this disadvantage is only temporary i.e till you get a call. Once you get a call and a chance to present yourself in an interview, your contributions to your work, your achievements & your learnings will matter much more than where you worked, and you will be at a level plane with others.
So dont worry about this, since you cant change it. Just prepare well for entrance exams, get the calls, and the rest you can handle.

you will not be considered as someone with a gap ! work is work, no matter the workplace. you just have to portray it in such a way that you learned something from it and that it added value to you. this way you will certainly be considered more than a fresher.
@Mukulspock im sorry if im kindaa sounding desperate bt one last question .im not getting good score in aimcats and i doubt dat i'd not b able to make it to d good coll this yr,so if i prepare for cat 13 wd bpo job as my work ex then is dat advisable thing to do or do i have to find some good joband prepare for cat 13 or in worst case i've 2 take admission this yr only.thanx a lot and sorry for troubling u again and again
