@anshuman312 Thank you sir for your valuable inputs. I will keep this in mind:)

I am really confused whether to do MBA or not ...

One thing im clear , if u do MBA then do it in a B School , not in some Engineering College ..thats fine ok ..but ..the fees for 2 years in every B School is roughly near 10-14 Lakhs..I dont have that much money in hand ..I have to take only Loan and that too with my House as security , thats the only way i can get that much money..but i dont like having my house for loan ..Many say if u study in a B School and if u get a job there , u can easily repay the loan amount in 1 or 2 years ..is it a good idea ???

Do all B Schools fees structure is like 10-14 Lakhs ?? FMS fees structure is less ( but i know i cant get a seat there,FMS student profile all from IIT,BITS,NIT,work exp IBM,Microsoft ,they wont even consider my application lol) Is there any other colleges where fees will be less and also quality education and placements will be there ??

Is there any other best and cheapest B School in India , other than FMS ??

If there is no other go , is it ok to do MBA in Engg college or Anna University or Deemed University ???

First of all its a myth that you can repay your loan in 2 years

Not all b-schools have fees like that , specially FMS , DU courses , IITs , Nitie have a low fee

Hi All,Myself Vishal, working as a Soft Engg in one of the leading MNC in Bangalore, frm last 2 years nd having salary of 4.2 Lpa.
I tried to prepare IAS while working but couldnt be consistent.
I have 3 attempts left 2013, 14, 15.(in short, I have only 2-3 years to do all such kinds of exercise ! )
1.Will it be a gud option to switch towards ssc-cgl govt job , in a hope to get time for preparation, as I am not in favor of sitting idle without any job for the preparation..?
- wouldn't that be a risk , as I don know how much they pay , nd wht will be the future scope.2.And after switching , in worst case if I have not cleared IAS, can I come back for MBA after clearing CAT/GMAT (will the profile be affected by such career related variations ?)(I have currently appeared for the ssc CGL -12 nd hoping to clear the first round , next round will going to be held in Sept- 12, then interview in Oct- Nov)Please post some useful & logical comments/suggestions..
Many many thanks in advance .
With reference to my first post !

Hi All Puys !
Once again ...as per my plans I made it to SSC , but not tht much gud post ..in fact the last one - Tax Assistant
Now in a situation to think & decide .But still doubtful for my wud be Tax Assistant's job profile compared to my present job & scopes
the salary I hv heard 20 K approx ..and don knw bout other source of sm monetary benefits(to be practical)
want some expert comments once again , as you were kind last time.

@powermatrix Lets answer your questions one by one... but before i do that I really want to ask you why do you even want to do an MBA? somehow i feel you are being very pessimistic right from the outset.
Yes you can get an education loan and the loan is easily repaid - the period of repayment depends on the kind of job you end up with. Also there are scholarships if you perform well. But you can repay your loan if you are in a good b-school and you get a decent placement from there. I would suggest you apply to FMS and any other school that suits your requirements and career goals. If you yourself believe that you profile is not worthy of a b-school how would you ever convince any interview panel.

Bro..just appear for CAT XAT and other MBA exams and filll the form of only those institutes that are within your means.

I am doing the same thing.
And please don't be biased against engineering colleges.MBA from an IIT or NIT is any day better than your college next door and " I shall buy rankings and post ads unto death"- ****.

Hi puys..

Need help here.My profile:

10th : 94 (I.C.S.E)

12th : 75 (state board) :(
UGrad : 70.2 (1st class with distinction) BIT MESRA Comp Sc

Extracurriculars : 1 international exam in which I got distinction and few here and there prizes in school level quizes.
Have done 5 years in NSS(experience)

This year CAT has been a disaster for me.But since I'm aiming to IIM C(because of good I banks)Does my profile hold any chance of getting selected if I score above say 99.5 in CAT.

Hopefully by CAT 2013 I will have 8 months of work Ex.

I know XLRI give calls only on basis of XAT score and I have to have a solid reason for getting 75 in 12th but it's manageable.

Question is: Is my profile good enough for IIMs' especially CALCUTTA..

@PGN Why the fixation with Calcutta (try for all the IIMs won't you??) All top B-schools are visited by I-banks (be it IIMA B or C)
Second of all even 8 months of workex is pretty much treated like 0 workex...
Thirdly - no one can predict that with 99.5 percentile you would get a call or not. It depends on the profile of other people and what is the percentile that they are scoring... Additionally the criteria for giving calls might change next year.... so no point in predicting anything 12 months in advance
Why are you trying to put a number to what you want to aim for.... if that motivates you in any way aim for 100 percentile (get a call from all the top colleges)

@PGN ---First and foremost try to get the requisite percentile...its easier said then done.

Also no body can predict chances...of getting a call or not...and that too for 2013 is impossible...nobody can even predict for 2012...
It all depends your very individual talent whether you get selected or not.
Getting a call is a different affair and getting SELECTED is a very different affair..
So buddy prepare hard get the percentile and then think about all this....nobody is sitting you to award the 99th percentile and everybody wants IIM.
By this post i hope you get the gravity of what i am trying to convey to you.
Hope that helps...

@DN2686 Thanks man..appreciate it...I am not in any way fixated with with my past scores(purane paap)..I will definitely give my 100 percent to CAT..Anyways i can't fix my puna paap so why bother about it..

Hi,
I will try to clarify your doubts as per my knowledge

1. Very few people who persue MBA have 10-14 Lakh at hand. They have to take loans .As far as I know many banks have a list of premier institute for which no collateral is needed. So if you get admission into a top 20 institute you don't need to keep your house as collateral. Sometime the list is longer to include many more. Go to your nearest bank and inquire about it

2. You can never repay loan in 2 years. Let me give you some stats. Suppose you take a loan of 10 Lakhs for education from SBI at 11.5% . you have to pay around 17200 per month for 7 years to get rid of loan. for repayment in 2 years you will need to pay back some 47000 pm.

3. When you said microsoft , IBM all those, I guess ,you thot that you actually get the salary they quoted. In fact its much less. If you get a package of 18LPA. you will never get more than 12-14 in hand and rest all are variable and other benefits (i.e finally you get 90k-105k per month with tax deductions) . Sometime it is much lesser if the package includes stock options too.

4. Apart from FMS there are many other colleges that offer top quality education at lower cost like IIT Delhi , NITIE , JBIMS .

hello puys .. kindly help :)

i am currently working since an year.. am a B.E 2011 passout. will be giving 2013 cat/xat/snap for 2014 seats ... bythat time i will have arnd 33-34 months of I.T experience ( SAP Tech. experience) ... i have been hearing a lot from unscrouplous sources that I.T experience (specially SAP experience) is only counted if that person is doing mba in OPERATIONS/SCM/SYSTEMS .hence good profile and good pay.

otherwise if someone from i.t experience goes for marketing/fin/h.r then its not seen that much .. as the companies think the candidates lack domain knowledge and hence the salaries and profiles offered are avg in marketing/fin/h.r for I.T experienced guys

is this true????/

ppl who are working post mba or students currently in an mba colg ... kindly reply to my query..

cheerss puys... 😃 😃 :)

@utkarsh0190 Absolute piece of crap what you have heard
I was an Oracle Apps professional before I did my MBA - and believe me i could have gone for any profile i wanted
A very important reason why people do an MBA is because they want to change their career paths, their domains. If one remains stuck with the old line of growth then the whole purpose of doing an MBA is defeated
Over 80% students in B-schools are engineers and a large majority of them come from IT background and a lot of them land jobs in the field of HR marketing and finance and whatever. So do not worry just focus on your preparation. What happens later in a B-school is something you do not need to worry at this point of time (your B-school placements are still 4 years away aren't they)

@DN2686 .. thanks bro

Does the field in which one have work ex matters? Say if I have a work ex in accounts and want to go for mba marketing, is it going to be considered and if considered is it going to equal work ex in marketing? Please let me know the best fields to get work experience in for both mba in marketing and mba in finance.
Thanks.

See, as far as criteria to apply is concerned you would be able to apply as it is based purely on the basis of amount of work ex and generally doesn't take into consideration the domain in which you had work ex. It can also help you in laterals in terms of package as again it package in laterals might be in proportion to amount of flat work ex, depending on college you are in.

Having said that, it won't help you much at the time of interview for being preferred over other guys/gals if it is not relevant to the profile you are applying to. For Sales and Marketing profile, I will treat a guy with accounting experience almost similar to a guy who is fresher as both of them do not have experience in domain for which I am recruiting. So except being preferred, you will enjoy other stuff of being work ex guy just like guy with experience in marketing itself.

1. You can definitely work and then do your MBA . Work experience people gell upto studies like freshers. Our batch has people with 7 years of work ex who are now rubbing shoulders with freshers and making presentations. So you need panic unnecessarily .

2.People who have worked with CRISIL for 3 years are today doing their major in Marketing. So it does not mean that if you do not have relevant work ex you cannot pursue a specialization. Marketing also requires finance knowledge (like economics, quant etc) . Thus our work ex will not go to waste.

3. Since you are so focused on doing HR or marketing my advice to you would be to join a PR company or a company dealing with these roles of work as it would help your future prospects.

@supratimd916 Is there any added advantage with work experience as compared to those without work experience
@Sunil.Bathini Work ex helps you in two ways. Firstly it helps you in understanding the concepts being discussed in class better. If you are a fresher, the concepts being discussed in class will remain theories to you. If you have work-ex, you will be able to relate to the concepts discussed in the class with your own experiences. Secondly, if you have relevant and/or sufficient work experience, it helps during placements in getting lateral offers.
