first of all you are thinking too much ahead of time

First of all finance is not "just" investment banking and not all roles in an investment banking firm are related to "finance"

A few more questions what if you start liking finance after working for few year in this "best" firm or you may end up hating marketing during your MBA tenure

Dont think about 2016 or 2017 right now think about 2012

@supratimd916 Is there any added advantage with work experience as compared to those without work experience
Work ex is obviously an advantage both in case of academics and placements. But it does not mean freshers do not do well. They do equally well. Its upto you when you want to take the plunge.Industry experience may help you decide whether you truly want to do Marketing or HR or not.

ATB!!
@abhimukh19 hey dude i know that finance does not mean INVESTMENT BANKING ALONE

Atb buddy take one step at a time , edelweiss is a great firm

Not sure what role you will have , typically starts from Back end ..:)
@abhimukh19
@sb29

I had denied the offer of EDELWEISS bcoz i dnt think being its a gud company and ascepts are good so once if i enter into that it will b little difficult for to me again change into study mode and as someone as said in this thread itself that the domain of work experience before your MBA should be same as the specialization u want to pursue otherwise it will nt be counted as an experience..

So puys do did i made any mistake bu refusing the offer

Guys , can anyone say what are the advantages of doing a ME instead of MBA ???

After completing ME is it possible to get into a software company or only we can to to Lecturer jobs ?? Eventhough if we get a job in Software companies , will the salary be the same as BE grads ...

I was thinking about the prospects of ME over MBA ..so plz let me know some detailed explanations ...

@powermatrix ME and MBA are completely different paths. If you want to stay in the technical track, and you love doing technical stuff, you should pursue ME. If you want to get into managerial work, you should do MBA instead.

Career and salary post ME depends on where you do it from. If you do it from the IITs or top NITs, then the prospects are very bright. However, if you do it from some normal engineering college, it may not help you much. (Same as MBA. MBAs from a tier-3 institute may earn less than a BE).

@gelato hey even me in search of an NGO in Mumbai ...!! cant find any not even a short term project .. please help
@supratimd916 hey even i have worked at CRISIL 1.5 year

Puys iam interested in applying to some good universities in USA for MS in MIS.. however i have 15 years of education.. and universities require 16 years of education...

some universities give an option to do a 1 year bridge course to be eligible for MS but i don't want to waste my time and money in the bridge course... Please tell me if i can do any 1 year course here in INDIA that will make me eligible for MS/MBA in US

thanks
@ankitarao There are many 1 year PGDM courses in India. You can look at those. These need not be in prestigious places like ISB. I think even some state universities have such courses.

However, I would suggest that you do a normal masters program from a good university/IIT/NIT etc. as that will add value to your profile and help you get into top US universities for your MS.

If you have money, then you can also look at European and British universities for a 1 year masters program. You can also look at the PGCIM program at SP Jain Mumbai with which you can get a European Masters degree in 14 months. You have to stay 6-8 months in Mumbai.
@sb29 alrt but are you sure that after i do this 1 year PGDM course in INDIA i will be eligible according to US standard of education (16 years) ??
and could you please tell me which all colleges in INDIA offer 1 year PG diploma in information systems ??

thanks in advance :)
@ankitarao 1. I don't know. You will have to find that out. I believe that it should be acceptable.
2. There are PGDM courses where you can specialize in IS. But I don't think there are any specific IS courses. Google.
Not sure where to post this query..
I am a 2010 engineering pass out (NIT). have been working with a KPO like company for the past two years. I am writing CAT this year, but with zero prep. So ideally targeting next year.So by 2013 i would be targeting for 2014-2016 batch. By the begining of the course i would have about 40 months of work ex and 25 years of age. Is that a little too much for an MBA in an Indian institute? I mean most of the people joining are either fresh gradutaes (21-22 yrs) or people with about 1-2 yrs of experience (22-24 yrs). So would like to know how is joining MBA at 25 in India is viewed?

Buddy

Trend of intake in Indian B-Schools have also changed with time. Now, you will find a good number of people with 2-4 years of work ex and some percentage with even 4-7 years of work ex, even for 2 years regular MBA program!!

So, need not worry and rest assured that except few B2C marketing profiles, all profiles especially consulting etc shall be at your disposal from placement perspective as well!

All the best!
@user26 If you get into a top 10-15 business school, it won't matter much. Nowadays there are enough people with good amount of work ex in such schools. You should keep in mind that for many profiles, freshers will be preferred and you need to be OK with that. Similarly, there will be profiles for laterals. However, if you fail to get into a top business school, I will not recommend you to join a 2 year program. Instead you should work some more and apply for a 1 year MBA at ISB, XL, SP etc. Alternatively, you can look at a foreign MBA if it suits your budget.

After doing ME from any average college you can very easily get into software job(salary same as BE grads). If done from good colleges, you can get plum jobs in MNCs. Advantages of ME/M Tech over MBA are-
1. Its cheaper.
2. Salary can be very much around MBA grads if done from good colleges. In case, if your branch is computer science it can well exceed MBA salaries.
3. Staying on technical side the job security is better.
4. Research, teaching and further studies route is always open.
