Hey Puys, I am an Computer Engineer with decent marks in Graduation (BE in 2012, no KTs or drops) from Mumbai University and pretty good acads (around 90%). However I did not sit for placements (for many reasons, no use of pondering over them now) and was preparing for CAT 2012 after BE was over. Now that I have finished with CAT, I am thinking of a Job. However, I am facing with a few dilemmas! 1) Which/Where to take? I am searching hard for a MNC which hires Freshers, but am not getting positive response. Should I try more (as in be more patient, wait and watch) till I get a job in IT, or should I join a startup/small company with lesser package and more work load? 2) Should I try for non-IT jobs? How do I try for them? Will they help in my built-up for MBA (not in terms of months/work ex but in terms of knowledge of the company, operations etc) 3) I have another option of joining my family business- my dad is a CA and runs a self employed business. But then that wont be "work experience on paper" nor would help me if, God forbid, I dont get into a decent B-school this year.
Which options out of the three, or any other contingency do you think is the best? I am really confused :-S

If long term view is of an MBA go for your father's work. Will be more profitable if you are definitely going for MBA this time. However if you are looking to shift to MBA after some time later then go for a job in your branch only. Even a startup with meagre salary would be a good point to begin. Parallely appear for off campus placements.
Sir, I want to know what sort of work experience has validity for admission in a B-school(preferably IIM). I want to start my career with networking. Is the work-ex of networking field gets accredited while taking admission in a b-school??????? I'm a b.tech undergraduate.
@technoarpitI dont think the field of work experience matter that much unless you are a business analyst or working in a top consulting firm. and of course the quality of your work experience do matter and that too after you had the call. Before call only the total months of work experience matters.

Dont worry too much about that , your work ex will count for sure
For GD PI , think about these questions
1) Why did u choose the field of work
2) What have you learnt?
3) Any instances where you lead a time or helped your team with an innovative idea etc
4) How will MBA help you complement your current Field of work , if you want to switch your domain via MBA then where do you wan to end up
I think these are the basic answers you should have before the GD PI season
I am really confused about what career path should I choose.
I gave GRE last yr n scored 1140. now I am interested in going abroad for Masters.
I am interested in some management course. My preference is a 1 year course and want to join in spring 2013. Now which country should I select and which course should I opt for..all these things are really confusing me.
I am a comp science engineer and have 3 yrs of work ex working in Infosys.
Hi Puys , I am a typical IT-Male with around 3 yrs workex across two leading IT companies - Infosys and IBM . My entire experience till date has been into e-commerce domain and technology . I have worked on an IBM product called WCS (Websphere Commerce Server) which is used by some leading retailers of US and Europe to build their e-commerce platforms . I have not only been a developer , but I have also have had chances of interacting directly with some very senior folks from client side around requirement gathering, and some basic consulting experience of proposing feasible alternative solutions in case their requirements had to be tweaked a little bit . I have picked up sound functional and technical expertise required for a typical e-commerce platform to work - like Order-Management-Systems, Payment gateways, Delivery and fullfilment capabilities , Catalog and product hierarchy , Customer Segmentation and profiling , Web-campaign and marketing activities etc . I have received accolades from very senior management (sector leads , delivery manager , client Project Manager etc) for my work .
However , I now want to move into a definite management consulting or IT consulting role in the e-commerce space . With e-commerce being such a hot field nowadays , and so much money being pumped into this field , please let know if I can leverage my experience to get such a profile ??? What are the companies where I can expect such a profile - and the approx salary ??
[ I am a plain B.Tech with no MBA , but even a NUS-Singapore graduate (a 'Consultant') at my last project told me I have enough e-commerce knowledge to launch a small e-commerce startup !! ]
@nidhi16 Can you try to improve your GRE score a bit... maybe take a month to prepare very seriously and then give the GRE again. It can give a good boost to your chances... Just a suggestion... anything above 1250 will be a significant improvement
hey puys .. am working with an IT form since 1.5 yrs ... planning to appear for ITIL v3 foundation certification... i wanted to know whther it helps in MBA or not? i know the answers will come like MBA in systems or IT .. but since am interested in operations.. do u think ITIL will be beneficial wrt operations.. please help :)
but i know that ITIL will definitely move up my profile 😃 :)
@utkarsh0190 it has got no relevance to MBA curriculum as such but an additional certification would do no harm to your chances of getting selected. If you can show why you did it and how it has added value to you... also how it is in line with your long term goals.... if you can create a storyline on this... would certainly help your chances...
what type of marketing profile in placement a fresher gets with no work experience opting for MBA marketing in top 15 colleges ????I had read somewhere that freshers no matter from watsoever college they get low profile jobs in marketing initially,is it so???????
i had my CAT today and my performance was terrible...i won't get a decent percentile and a decent college....so i will appear again next year i am a 3rd year student from commerce background and we are not having placements at our college....
i don't want to waste a year... should i join a NGO? should i apply to companies individually by submitting resume ? any other option?
@ipagal lets take all your queries one by one 1. Do not get disheartened and do not give up your hopes just yet... if possible apply to other MBA colleges that accept CAT scores... you might get an admit elsewhere. there are a lot of good schools that accept CAT scores for admission 2. Apply and get a job. At the same time join an NGO. You can devote your weekends to social work and community service. But please do not do it solely for the purpose of adding a point to your resume. Do it because you want to contribute. That way you will learn a lot and it would ultimately help you in the long run. 3. If possible join a startup... that is one more option you can look at.. The point is do something that would add value, teach you something, something that you would be able to justify and something that is in line with the long term goals of your life.
@Sunil.Bathini It depends on your choice... how is anyone support to rate them? this is very subjective.... in a way the wrong question to ask.... u need to decide which stream u want to pursue...
@Sunil.Bathini So choose either one of them... go to a b-school you would get plenty of data points to judge there... also you will be able to see the curriculum very closely... See my opinion will be my personal preference... and not an objective judgment... infact there cannot be an objective judgement in this case :)
