Personal Dilemma Related Queries

I am Shashank Gangil, currently doing my MS from HKUST, Hong kong. Well I am in a confusing dilemma. Till now i followed the beaten path, Mechanical Engineering, Job for 3 yrs then decided to come to hong kong to do my master in one of the best universities. Till now its been smooth and perfect journey for me. But for past few months ever since i arrived in hong kong, I am pretty confused if this is what i want to do with my life ? Though MS from here will fetch me a good job in Hong kong but still it feels like something is incomplete. Since kid i was always interested in wildlife, conservation , outdoors but didnt knew how to make a career out of it. So i followed the path everyone recommended and doing well. But but but, i feel now is the time to follow my passion. But I am already enrolled in MS and now feel being stuck. I have heard of this institute called IIFM, Bhopal and it has courses related to Conservation and livlihood something i am always interested in. But the thing is, I am planing to take the plunge into CAT in either 2014 or 2015 because since I have invested a lot for Hong kong, i need to do some job to recover that and only after that I can think about giving CAT. I will be 26 in november and by the time I give CAT i will be around 29 or even 30 (probably i will even get married by then). I think I will be too old by then to do an MBA. But since MBA from IIFM is niche field, i am sure it wont affect much. I need sound advice if my planing so far is feasible or not. Anyone out there did there MBA after getting married, what are the pros and cons ? ( I even though of preparing for IFS during my stay in hong kong but its not working out because of huge study pressure.). Pardon me if you find my question immature.

@shashankgangil So you will complete your MS, then do an MBA from IIFM (something that is related to your dream and passion) and you are worried about age??
Its your dream for god's sake... your planning is spot on when it comes to paying back your loans and all and then going for the MBA. But do not give up... go right ahead follow you passion.
@DN2686

Thanks Deepak for your encouraging comments. Since not many people do MBA at 29-30 or even after getting married, so I am pretty confused. So just need tips how to start preparing from right now. I have never given CAT before because I was never interested in an MBA. But in past few months, I garnered lot of information about IIFM, Bhopal and found out its the place i should have been to, not in Hong kong. 😞 Is it really tough to get into study mode when you reach a certain age since i am finding it little tough here in Hong kong after 3 years of job.
@shashankgangil with work yes... it does require considerably high motivation to get started... i am sure you'll do well once you are into the study ,mode... but since you have a lot of time before you start preparation you should not worry too much about it right now

Hi Puys,

Desperately need your help. I have given IBPS and giving CAT where I have mentioned the experience as 2 years which I was to finish in the IT company. Now due to certain days of leave the HR has decidedly refused to issue any experience certificate because I was absconding in the notice period. How to deal with this. My 2 years of hard work is coming to null ?? :'(

1. Will I require the experience certificate for Bank PO?

2. Do other IT companies consider the candidate without the experience certificate ?

3. How would I justify my experience in the MBA courses?

@icecool11 I cant answer specific queries you asked but expereince certi is very important for MBA. College will need a proof of your work ex to assure themselves before pitiching for a job for you. As far as I know HR cannot deny you experience certificate on account of anything. You have worked so its your right to get it. You can always prove that legally with the payslips. The thing is you have to negotiate for a buy back of your notice period. Indian law always provides for an option of buy back of your notice period.
But be prepared for a hefty buy back amount
All the best
@shashankgangil Firstly, I would suggest that you finish your MS, work for sometime to get some money and then do something related to your dream field. It need not be an MBA. You can find many masters courses in US in this field. Secondly, you sound too vague about what you want to do in conservation and livelihood? Do you want to work in micro finance? Do you want to work for an environment related NGO? Think about everything before giving up the solid background you have to chase a half-baked dream.
@sb29 As i mentioned in my comment, I have interest in wildlife, habitat management. Doing another course in USA, i dont think is a financially sound decision. I believe my future is in india so i think studying in india will be a better option. May be i sound a little desperate or vague, but i am in little desperation as i mentioned before.

Appear for MBA and go for IIFM(Forest Management). A tougher and best alternate is India Forest Services.

The question is very good. You can see that your english has a lot to cover. Similarly Maths and GK shall also take some time.2 months are insufficient.

It may be better to go for job and work hard on all the sections and then appear for the exam.

By then you will have job experience from a very good company. You will also have much better idea of what do you expect to achieve in MBA. Meanwhile if you prepare well you will have much better colleges to get admission in.
@Pick the gap wasn't your fault... it happened... if you are able to explain that to the interview panel and are able to tell them that what you did in this period is in line with your long term goals you stand a good chance...
You can apply elsewhere and at least get some workex... that is another thing you can consider...
about the percentile... well no one can predict that...

My problem is common. I just don't like living. My job is ok. Parents, life, friends everything is great. But i just dont want to live anymore. Hate it. The only reason i haven't committed suicide yet is because i am afraid of dying painfully. Whats wrong with me? anyone else has the same problem? Am i depressed? and am just 21. which is even more weird. I am feeling this at such an young age. What i will i do when life starts asking serious questions?

People tell me i am smart and all but i dont think so. I am a dumbass. Have been and always will be. Dunno why people say that. I am just tired of life in general. Wish i was never born. And all this i have felt since i was small. Once when my teacher gave me a remark(Probably in 6th or 7th grade) in my calender i thought of committing suicide. I actually had gone up to the roof to do so. But chickened out. I wish i was never born. I feel all this even when i have no problems. Its a vicious cycle you know... i am scared of dying painfully and so hate myself for being so scared. What to do? I basically am disappointed in myself. I am just so mentally weak.

Anyways i do not expect any reply to my post. I know this isnt a forum to post things that i have posted but i just wanted to vent out my frustrations in writing.

Two reasons of sadness in life-
1. Expectation and 2. Comparison.

We compare with others and expect to perform where THEY have performed to prove something.

Get a race in which you like to run. And then run with all your enjoyment and passion. Not for frills, benefits, comparison and expectation. And you will be running alone for the world outside but would just be running for yourself on inside. Every achievement and life will just follow.
All the Best.

I actually do not compare myself with anybody. Its just that i am disappointed i havent turned the way i envisaged myself to. Anyways thanks for the advice.

I always believe that you are born for a reason, which might or might not be what you intend to do with your life. For you to accept these insecurities you face itself suggest that you ain't weak as you claim. Take some time off, how about touring somewhere? Try a new place, take some time off. Am sure we all find our paths at some point of time, don't lose hope. Don't have regrets, try to relish the finer aspects of life with your close ones. Having somethng to look forward to also helps you to be motivated and keep track of your progress. Don't let your situation get the better of you, try to address teh issue as realistically as possible. I don't wanna sound corny or cliched but there's always a brighter side, an up after a down, better things will await definitely. Don't resort to such stuff, however dire the situation might seem. Thanks man.:)

I have already appeared for Cat '12 . The next in queue are NMAT and SNAP . Now i am really not sure whether i should apply for XAT or not as i have only 3 months prep and i very well know that XAT is considered as one of the toughest exams . So somebody please suggest what should i do fill the form and take a chance because some pretty good institutes accept XAT score or wholeheartedly prepare for NMAT and SNAP ....
