Even if we consider that option... ppl need to accept their Grad School offers by March... correct me if I am wrong :) so either they would have to leave that offer which btw would be a bigger risk, coz u never know: TAS can be tricky, or accept it in which case my earlier premise holds good
Not really dude.. I have an offer from a top 20 US MBA B School with 75% schol. Still, I am applying for TAS. Yes I have accepted the offer but that means a deposit of only 750$.
TAS will open up (in case I get thru which is a remote chance) new opportunities. Besides, who doesn't like to have more options. I am sure you would too..

Buddy congrats to you on that :cheerio: yup everyone surely likes options... but in my opinion if one has something better in hand then one definitely doesnt need to go for anything lower... :-o a top 20 MBA offer with 75% schol is way too amazing for me to think about anything else... lol

Well i totally resonate Gaurav's thoughts... and Ashu just FYI TAS is no lower to any grad school education
Infact think about this
1) Grad school is 2 yrs of education and exposure to ppl from different backgrounds where as TAS is exposure to different kinds of industries throughout your life with a profile similar to what is offered for a MBA (remember TAS recurits from top IIMS only, other than Tata internal)
2) Once you are in the later 20's (25+) you dont want to take a risk of arnd INR 60,00,000 (minimum) to get a US MBA where the economy follows a Sine curve, where as in TAS without any investment you get returns ( i know what package they offered last year but will not reveal it here)
3) Being associated with TATA is a real prestige. i dont know how much you have experienced it but here in US TATA companies ki bahut aukaad hain, plus remeber any top 20 B school in USA cannot get you into TAS.

My 2 cents on this...
I do agree with you, that its a risk of about 60 Lakhs but a 75% schol is a big part of it... apart from that you would be working part time which can take care of your living expenses etc... so finally u end up with a meagre debt after u pass out...
On the salaries front a grad from top 20 B school makes around $120k to $150k pa right from the beginning... So on the lifestyle part...When do u think you would be able to live a life with Tata group... just think about it...
Ya I have also been associated with Tata for a long long time... N I do agree that the group has some reckoning.. but let me clear you on that;the locals do not know what Tata is... OK even if we consider that you are part of this prestigious group you can never match up on the money front when you pass out from a top 20 B school... N for all that matter who needs to get into TAS after passing out of a international B school :)
one more thing to add... TAS doesnt just recruit from IIMs, majority of recurits come from SP Jain, FMS and the likes...
And Metastate dont just make it an ego issue buddy... I m not demeaning anyones options... Was just presenting my views on the topic...
Also just for records... was following last years thread... there was a guy who got an IIMC offer and he left TAS midway... So now you know what is TAS compared to an MBA...

You are not allowed to work Part time / your schedule will be so hectic when you pursue a MBA, there are very few schools ( i am not aware of any top 20) offering 10 hrs a week RA or TA

Well its not just about money its about passion and how much you are able to relate to the company's value system

Yes locals who do nothing really do not know but any person who is in the corporate is aware Of Tata and i hope we are talking about these people.

Its not Ego Ashu its about your preferences in life, I kind of feel good when i know that the group i am associated to contributes 60% of its profits towards social cause I feel good that the coporate world can be so selfless yet challenging Also i would prefer a TAS salary back in India, closer to my people than even a 120k or for that matter even 150 K in USA
Also just for records... was following last years thread... there was a guy who got an IIMC offer and he left TAS midway... So now you know what is TAS compared to an MBA...
I am sure he had his own career goals. Well one question (again nothing to do woth ego) What do you want to do in the long term, TAS (for a permanent career) or a US MBA (which you seem to prefer per conversation) If it is later why try for TAS???
There are a few which I somehow dont agree to 1. 10 hrs is only the on campus thingy; there are many more options 2. 60% of profits for social cause is a ridiculous number coz no company can survive with that.
I kinda liked ur reasoning on most of the points apart from that... and the one I liked the most was,I would surely prefer a TAS salary back in India, closer to my people...
I dont know abt the others but one thing I realize now is as per the attitude displayed u r definitely whom I would like to see in the final list of TAS...
Appearances can be deceptive buddy... will let u know something sometime later...

Yes 10% is a very campussy thing, but thats all you can spend working in ur MBA education career (just check a typical day in business school on any top school website---- the caveat agin top B school)
About social sevice here is a quote from Wiki on Tata group
"About 66% of the equity capital of Tata Sons is held by philanthropic trusts endowed by members of the original Jameshedji family and the largest share is with the Shapoorji Pallonji Mistry family aligned originally to Jamshetji's brother in law. The biggest two of the owning trusts are the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (different Ratan Tata), which were created by the families of the sons of Jamshedji Tata. Ratan Tata is on the board of trustees of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, and is the chairman of the board of trustees of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.original research?]. Sir Ratan Tata is also best known for the face behind changing India's automotive industry into global climate change era."
I totally agree that looks could be deceptive but no harm shating your story thru a PM ;)
well i have my priorities are set. hope your wish strengthen my chances now (Pray for me)
In my curiosity to know the the criteria for shortlisting the candidates for the next round, I called up the TAS office on friday ..... It is a common expected answer but at least gives some clarity ........
The lady politely told me that the content of the application form will be considered thoroughly before shortlisting anyone ...... The Profile, ratings, academics, extra curricular, hobbies and the rest of the write ups in the app ...... So the small write ups will also play a role is a good thing to know .......

am another tata employee and have been following this thread quite keenly..at times from office too.. 😁 I still have a yr to go before I apply for TAS. what I would like to know is what role does your rating play in getting a TAS first round call? as in can one expect a call with a rating of 3? Also what does the selection committee look in a prospective candidates profile before they issue a call? One last question..approximately how many ppl finally make it through the in house selection? 'cos my friend who interned in TAS last year said they were a total of 8 in house selection out of a total around 45 or so.
Hey guys , Its a mere perception and more matters what yu wnt to do and where you wnt to see urself down the line. Secondly people going to b-schools are concerned it does not implies that TAS looses the value what if post IIM-C he happened to get into TAS agin so you end up spending two years at a b-school and then join the same league . Also i look at it in a way its a trade off between where you wnt yourself and hwo you wnat to do it????????????????/
Hi, Have you people been preparing for the Case Studies and GDs over Skype as planned? If yes, I'd be interested in tagging along.
Also do you have an idea of what the process ahead is going to be like? How much time do we get between the announcement of the shortlist on the 10th and the GD Rounds? And how much time do we get to submit the Case Studies that we'll be handed on the 10th?

Well, Skype was virtually kicked out due to net speed and bandwidth issues ...... The other option is to meet in person for the GD in Mumbai .... I am open to suggestions ......
Cheers Pritesh Vora
