Did Mumbai TAS-aspirants get a hard deal?
I fear yes they did. π
We thought the GD elimination was too high and looked like
an effort to limit people for the time consuming case
round (and thereby wrap up by 6 pm sharp!)
Why do I think so??
For other locations, GD selections were 9/27, 6/16, 8/30...
There is no plausible reason really for Mumbai to fall short
on this count...WIth more time and co-ordination for practice,
I think Mumbai should have been better off than 14/75...
unless some additional filters were put in place...
Mumbai should better be a two day event if time is an issue!
And some funny things happening the GD itself:
The panel resorting to 'pep-talk' while the 'chairman' was
witnessing the most important 1 minute of his/ her life! That was
utterly distracting to say the least...
And the pep-talk included:
a) who is from where
b) some gyan about how the largest contributor to the applicant pool
doesnt bother to hire a single TAS Manager...when 8/10 GD participants
are from the concerned company
c) some tidbits of information sharing with the remaining 2 participants
who happen to be from the panel's company. (Not in any way pointing
to anything sinister here!)
d) With (c) happening, some participants started frantically talking about
anything and everything related to their parent company...this when 'their'
chairman was grasping the GD caselet...
These are mere observations..In any case, I will be going for it again next year..will possibly go for a location with lesser numbers! π
hmm......
Well, the TAS journey ends for me here .......
I didn't make it ........ :banghead:
To summarize the result for the benefit of others:
- Total candidates: ~68
- GD Cleared: 13-14
- Final Cleared: 6 (I think) ......
All I can say is the selection in the GD process is extremely weird and unreliable ...... Don't bother preparing for it ..... just go in and enjoy the process .....
-----------------------
USA/UK Puys, ATB to you ........
Hope to see a good number of people making it till the end from the forum ......
P.S. ---- I do not want to post my cruel experience here ...... but If anyone needs any specific information, please feel free to PM me ......
Cheers
Pritesh

The exact same thing happened in our pannel as well....
something of similar nature with my grp too...
Well my TAS journey also comes to an end with this being my last attempt . I was satisfied in TAS 2009 when my preparation paid off and I was present till Final Director's interview but this year in spite of due diligence I didnt really enjoy the process with high number of GD participants within each group and participants not getting enough time to speak. The whole zest to present your point of view was lost in that fish market .
I wish all the best for International participants for round 2 and also to those already selected.
Thanks
Vishal
TAS has always been extremely selective...last yr 8 final in house selections...i was harbouring hopes of TAS next yr...but the way things are looking..i doubt i'd even clear the GD...god alone knows what they want in a person...anyways id like to see how things pan out this year...and hear some successful experiences and some not so sucessful ones too
Guys, if all this is true, then I am really really scared!!!! I dunno what will happen in the final round!

:-(
Surprisingly, our panel was mostly from Mumbai and they were very fair and composed in their judging.

No official mail from TAS office regarding the dates for final interview, and as per the unconfirmed information, induction starts from 14th June.
Anybody from Bangalore/Hyderabad/Mumbai center received any intimation from Dharna.
Amit
Same here my panel was fair too, primarily comprising of TAS officers from 90's batch.
Well hope the same fairness remains for the final round.
All the assumptions of final numbers, all projections have gone for a toss, well thats what TAS is the ultimate process
Best of luck to guys from outside India.

does tas hold some eligibility criteria for the mba students at top bschools where it recruits on campus ???
Guys the % of success is going down : from 13.9 % to 12.34%...
Is this alarming?:o
You know guys, a lot has been said about percentage selections and trend analysis and stuff on this forum. I have seen a lot of posts where people have panicked because 1 person got selected from Hyderabad or so on and so forth.
Please just keep in mind what the TAS guys have been saying all along. They don't have a fixed number in mind.
Does it really matter how many people they select from a location? The fact that you are good will see you through anyways. Otherwise sooner or later you will get eliminated.
By doing these analysis and concerning yourself with these issues, you are just putting undue pressure on yourself. Worrying about things that are beyond your control has never done anyone any good and things are not going to change now.
I understand that there practicalities at play and the competition might be a little more intense in places where the numbers are large, like Mumbai. But the fact remains that at the end of the day you just need 1 seat for yourself. If you are good enough you will get it.
If you are banking on luck or weaker competition or higher selection percentages to see you through then you are not doing your talent enough justice.
And honestly guys, TAS is not the end of life. Someone used a phrase like 'the most important minute of your life' in one of his posts. Really? You go in with that kind of pressure on your head and the only thing you will do is to explode. If you let the smallest of things distract you or send you in a tizzy then that is exactly what they will do.
Rise to the challenge people. There are men and then there are fine men. Decide which side of the fence you are on.
Peace.

Well said Xrometh :)
TAS is an experience. A chance to find out where you stand.
Why turn it into a nightmare?
I am simply happy to be a part of the TAS Selection process. π
@Xrometh - Nice post and I guess we all strive to be there. But I would like to disagree on not performing or exploding under pressure. I speak for myself, I always do justice to my talent when there is added pressure, an expectation to cross to the other side. Sometimes I feel when I go in too cool thinking I have options, I dont do that well. Again it is a personal take and I am not generalizing anything out here.
@Xrometh: Thanks so much for your post!!! Hope to see you in Mumbai!
guyz any updates from uk?
Hello All,
I understand from my friend that the UK process has been postponed. This was informed to them 7-8 days ago and the new dates have not been shared yet. Anybody having more info?
Thanks!
