The Sri Ramaswamy Memorial Institute of Science and Technology or SRM Institute of Science and Technology as it is more commonly known as, was founded by renowned politician and Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi chief, T.R Pachamuthu, who till date serves as the chancellor of the university and the founding chairman of the educational group.
SRM University was founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur, Tamil Nadu. This was just the first of the five campuses that SRM would go on to establish. Two of the other campuses of SRM are also located in Tamil Nadu in Vadapulani and Ramapuram, respectively.
The final two campuses are now deemed universities and are situated in the Delhi NCR region and Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, respectively.
The SRM University Chennai has about 38,000 enrolled students and employs more than 2,600 faculty members across all its campuses.

SRM has four main campuses spread across the country. All of the campuses are equipped with comfortable hostels and wholesome messes and canteens. Gyms, swimming pools, grounds and a cosy ambience are all characteristics of an SRM hostel. The following are a list of briefs on all of SRM’s campuses.
- SRM University Kattankulathur Campus: SRM Chennai campus is located about 35 kms away from Chennai, which is the main SRM campus. It is sprawled out on about 250 acres of land and houses the engineering colleges, law school, medical college and the humanities college among others. The Medical College and Hospital located on campus can house 1,200 residential patients.
- SRM University Amaravati : located near Neerukonda village in Mangalagiri mandal, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, India, in the area of the planned city Amaravati. SRM Amaravati campus was established in 2017 by the SRM Trust
- Vadapalani Campus: This campus is situated near the heart of Chennai city. It houses the faculty of engineering and technology, managerial and also the SRM Medical Institute.
- SRM University Ramapuram Campus: The Ramapuram campus is also located in Tamil Nadu. It is the university’s second largest campus and houses the Easwari Engineering College, the dental college and the faculties of engineering and technology.
- NCR Campus: This campus at Modinagar is about 25 acres in area and is known to house the faculties of engineering and technology, management and teacher education.
SRM IST received the deemed university status in 2003-04 academic year. Since then, SRM University had been ranked No. 1 by the Times of India in their Engineering Institute’s Rankings in 2016. In 2017, India Today ranked it 8th among engineering colleges across the country.
The NAAC had declared SRM to be an “A++” rated institution with CGPA, 3.55/4 in 2018. The Ministry of HRD places it in the A category while the NIRF has ranked it 46 among the domestic engineering colleges.

SRM University Courses Highlights
- The Computer Science and Engineering bachelors course from SRM is one of the best ones in the country. The cut-off to this course is the highest as are the packages that the students get during placement season.
- The MBA in Human Resources course is unique in the sense that there are very few reputable institutions in India that teach HR on a masters level.
- SRM Law School is famous for its faculty and the cut-off from CLAT and L-SAT is equally high. The school is held in almost the same regard as the NLUs.
- SRM was one of the first universities in India to provide a bachelors degree in nanotechnology.
- The SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Center has the capacity to house more than 1,200 in-house patients and provides 25 specialisations to those pursuing postgraduate medicine.

SRM University Admission Process 2019
Admission to SRM for those pursuing engineering both on a bachelors or a masters is dependent on the candidate’s performance in their respective SRM University Entrance Exam SRMJEE. The admission to the medical school is dependent on the candidate’s performance in NEET.
Admission to BBA and most other bachelor programmes is also subject to an internal entrance exam. The candidate’s marks in their 10th and in their (10+2) exams carry around 60% weightage in these exams. SRM Institute of Science and Technology prides itself in being an institute with a fantastic reputation when it comes to the placement scenario. SRM Result and Cut Off
SRM University conducts SRMJEE (SRM Joint Entrance Examination for Engineering) for the purpose of admission of engineering students.
The registration for the exam begins in January while the exam usually occurs in May of every year. Students are ranked on an amalgamation of their academic scores and their SRMJEE scores. B.Tech (CSE) is considered to be the best option at SRM and the cut-off for the course has been around the rank of 10,000 since 2013.
MBA students are taken in on the basis of their MAT and NMAT results. MBA (Finance) is SRM most lucrative course with the cut off being around 540 marks for MAT and 180 marks for NMAT applicants.
SRM University Alumni Network
The SRM Alumni Network is a huge web of professionals who at one point had been a student at the institution. The university tries to provide a common platform for the up and coming engineers to interact with their former seniors.

SRM University Scholarship
SRM provides scholarships for either, the academically or culturally brilliant students with recorded achievements or for those in dire financial situations or physically disabled. The latter is provided only after a thorough background check.
The former is awarded to students who have scored over 95% in their (10+2) CBSE or State Board examinations as a fee waiver of about 50%.
