Tezpur University was established in the year 1994 as a Central University of Assam. The university is one of the outcomes of the Assam Accord, which is a settlement signed between the Government of India and the Assam Movement’s leaders. Tezpur is the capital of the Sonitpur district of Assam, and the address of Tezpur University is in the area of Napaam.
The Tezpur University campus is spread across an area of 262 acres of land. The campus is bounded by a firm wall on its surroundings. The area of Napaam is a midpoint between Mission Chariali and Kalia-Bhomora bridge and is connected to the National Highway no. 37A.
Napaam is surrounded by a rustic civilization with people belonging to different caste, religion and languages. There is a tri-weekly flight facility between Tezpur and Kolkata. The campus has a Tezpur University library that facilitates a rich collection of books, journals, magazines, etc. Apart from that, the library has digital features like E-Journals, E-Databases, E-Books, DeLCON, CD Library, Library QR Codes, and many other things. It also has a Computer Centre that is well equipped with Personalized Computers that are provided with a host of upgraded software packages and high-speed servers.
A Video Conferencing centre with a 70 seater capacity is also present for video conferencing. The computer centre has two clusters.
The University of Tezpur has a Guest House for the accommodation of foreign dignitaries that has 45 luxurious rooms, 30 seater conference room, and 40 seater dining hall. The Tezpur University hostel has 12 dwelling units meant for the purpose of boys and girls.
It has five boys hostel-like Nilachal, Kanchanjungha, Patkai, etc. and seven girls hostels like Kopili, Dhansari, NHW, Subansiri, etc. There is also a health centre present in the university campus meant for the purpose of students, teachers and staff.
It has an OPD centre along with ten equipped medical beds. It has the latest medical facilities like ECG machine, Ultrasound, X-ray machines, etc. Specialists from different disciplines are available throughout the week.
A Yoga Centre was also inaugurated in the campus to teach the healthy practice of yoga for students and staff. Other facilities present in the university campus are Kendriya-Vidyalaya School, Horticulture Section, Food Quality Control Laboratory, and many other such centres.
