The University of Tezpur follows a certain standard for selection of students in the University like entrance examinations, personal interviews, a specific percentage of the former course, etc. Students must adhere to these criteria in order to pursue their higher studies in the university.

Students aspiring to get admission in the undergraduate courses of Tezpur University must have cleared their 10+2 level from a known board, with a minimum of 50% along with concerned subjects for which they are applying. An Online University Entrance Examination is conducted to filter the proficient students.

Students applying for B.Tech courses are required to produce the valid scores of JEE exams to get admission. For the admission, the students are required to crack a minimum rank determined by the university. For instance, Tezpur University cut-offs for JEE Mains for the year 2018 was 350. 

Direct admission in different undergraduate courses is granted on merit to the top ten scorers with a minimum of 80% in the board exams. Similarly, direct access in B.Tech courses are given on merit foundation to the top five scorers with a minimum of 85% in board exams. However, all these students must belong to the North-Eastern States of India. 

In Master Degree courses like M.Tech, M.Sc, M.A, MCA, etc. candidates must go through the Online University Entrance Examinations. M.Tech students can also get Direct Admission through GATE examination. Genuine scores from CAT/MAT/CMAT/GMAT etc. are required for the candidates seeking admission in MBA courses. The Tezpur University MBA cut-off is actually the maximum percentile of 90 for general category, and 85-70 for OBC, SC/ST category. 

Tezpur University PhD admissions are done based on the marks of the Online University Entrance Examinations. The one who has qualified the UGC-NET/CISF JSR- NET will get direct entry for the course.

The cutoffs are regulated based on the marks of the last year examinations as well as the current examination. It also depends upon other criteria like the difficulty of the question paper, the number of students passed, the number of vacancies for the exams, etc.

These scores are different for different subjects. After the Tezpur University entrance results are declared the candidates need to attend a personal round of interview at the university premises for the final selection.
